I love the fact that, when talking about this bridge, I can say "The Gordie" and people immediately know what I'm referencing. That sculpture called Aazhoge (one who travels across the water) might end up being a great nickname for the bridge as well.
Hi Chris. It is a popular bridge with a good following. It might, you never know. I suspect it will have a few nicknames, but the Gordie Howe Bridge will be the way most people will recongnize it. Thanks for the post!!😎👍
I wonder if we are going to have any sculptures on the American side, your sculptures are beautiful! We love you our Canadian friends! What an awsome thing you are doing.
That's a good question, Jays. So I did a quick search and this is what I got: The Gordie Howe International Bridge, which connects Windsor, Canada, to Detroit, USA, will feature significant artistic installations on both sides of the border. While the Canadian side has already seen the installation of notable sculptures, plans for the American side are also in place. Current Installations on the Canadian Side Aazhoge Sculpture: A prominent installation on the Canadian side is a three-meter tall sculpture titled "Aazhoge," created by Anishinaabe artist Michael Belmore. This piece reflects Indigenous culture and is designed to resemble birch bark, symbolizing connection and history for the Anishinaabe people. It incorporates elements like a thunderbird and features both orange and stainless steel sides, visible to travelers entering and exiting Canada. Make Joyful Noise: Another artwork, titled "Make Joyful Noise," is set to be installed at the Canadian port of entry. This large circular metal structure, crafted from replica church pews, pays tribute to Windsor-Essex's Underground Railroad history. It will be accessible to the public and is designed to illuminate at night, symbolizing guidance and hope. Plans for the American Side While specific sculptures for the American side have not yet been detailed in the current reports, there are indications that artwork will also be integrated there. The project aims to celebrate both Canadian and American cultures through art, as evidenced by previous community consultations where local stakeholders expressed a desire for Indigenous heritage representation on both sides of the bridge. In summary, while the Canadian side of the Gordie Howe Bridge is already showcasing significant sculptures that honor Indigenous culture and historical narratives, plans for artistic installations on the American side are anticipated but have not yet been explicitly outlined in available sources. That gives us a better idea, eh?:)
@@bobjonesrealtor7756 Wow Bob, thank you for the research. really appreciate that. The architects missed an opportunity when designing the bridge and facilities. They should have made the pylons look like two hockey sticks, and the drive-though lanes should have looked like hockey goals.
Hi Pete. Lol. They will have goalies at each booth. Maybe they should make their uniforms Redwing Jerseys or referee stripes. Good post. Thanks for the cool comment! 😎👍
Interesting project! I had heard about it in some videos but didn’t make the effort to follow up. Glad to know this bridge should be open by September 2025; it will undoubtedly be a major attraction for road users and tourists on either side of the Detroit River. One question, though. As I understand it, the Gordie Howe Bridge will be incorporated in the interstate highway network on the U.S. side. Will the bridge have a connection to Highway 401? Might part of the bridge be incorporated in Ontario’s 400-series network as a result of a possible connection to the 401?
Hi Dwain. Yes. The bridge connects directly to the 401 highway. The connection was run to the bridge when the Herb Gray Parkway was completed. 401 to the bridge to the interstate in Michigan!😎👍
Bob Jones Realtor do you know if the Detroit International Marathon will be running across the new Gordie Howe Bridge instead of the Ambassador bridge after completion? I have run that marathon twice and planning to run it one more time before I turn 50yrs old. Running the new bridge would be awesome!!
I’m not as optimistic about the attraction of proposed art sculptures as I am about the bridge itself. Would love to see sculptures/art pieces of historic bridges around the world.
Hi William. I would assume so, even in a warm climate. Bridge decks move a little, and some a little more. Lol. I suppose we'll find out when they replace the deck. I read late 2025, about the same time the Gordie Howe opens!
06:22 Does anyone know what those pockets on both sides of the highway 401 where the sculptures will be installed are for? Maybe for future ramps for exiting and entering from the Ojibway Pkwy?
Hi Yur1. Couldn't say what future plans are for those spots. I believe they are to dress up the entrance. There is more artwork to be installed, as well as landscaping. Time will tell!:)
Hi Richard. That will be interesting. Pretty sure they will be there until the bridge and road decks are complete enough to drive right through. Whadda you think?

There is a bridge in vancouver like this. In the freezing wet weather icicles formed on the cables and when they broke off they landed on the cars. Extremly dangerous.
Hi StellasGrampa. I've heard. My daughter lives out there and has told me about it. It's been mentioned in the community from time to time. The GHB has said they have that problem covered, but that will prove right or wrong in the first good winter storm. However, I did a quick search as your comment intrigued me. This is what I found; Both the Port Mann Bridge and the Alex Fraser Bridge have experienced icing problems, with the Port Mann Bridge being more notorious for this issue. The problem still persists, although measures have been taken to mitigate it. ## Port Mann Bridge The Port Mann Bridge has had significant issues with "ice bombs" since its opening in 2012[1][2]. In December 2012, ice and snow falling from overhead cables damaged over 300 vehicles[3]. Despite the installation of cable collars in 2013 to help dislodge accumulated snow and ice, the problem continues. In December 2016, about 50 insurance claims were filed due to falling ice and snow[3]. ## Alex Fraser Bridge The Alex Fraser Bridge has also experienced icing problems, though less frequently than the Port Mann Bridge. In December 2016, 95 claims were filed for damage caused by falling ice on this bridge[3]. The bridge has been shut down multiple times due to "ice bombs," with incidents reported in 2005, 2008, and 2012[3]. ## Current Status As of 2024, both bridges still face challenges with ice accumulation: 1. Climate change has led to more frequent incidents of ice bombs on both bridges in recent years[4]. 2. The cable collar systems installed on both bridges have improved the situation but have not completely eliminated the problem[4]. 3. Authorities continue to monitor weather conditions closely and may implement partial or full closures of the bridges when necessary for safety[4]. Despite ongoing efforts to mitigate the issue, drivers crossing these bridges during winter conditions should remain cautious of potential falling ice and snow. There we have it. Hi jdallas. I did a quick search to see what information I could find on your question. I found conflicting information from it hasn't been decided yet to the following: The Gordie Howe International Bridge is designed to have a white finish that aligns with the renderings, utilizing a 3-coat paint system intended to last up to 40 years in the challenging environment it faces near Zug Island's industrial area. This finish is primarily RAL 9003, which is a bright white with a semi-gloss appearance. This includes meticulous coordination of surface finishes and colors to achieve a clean and elegant design free of visual clutter. I do not know why the constant emphasis on the word "friends" and "friendship" the American Government and the Gov of the State of Michigan have demonstrated that they are NOT friends. CANADA is paying for it all and the USA had no interest in this project. See how they still support the Maroun family and Ambassador bridge. The current dispute with the city of Windsor is a clear indication. You know Bob, you really should mention that Canada is 100% paying for this bridge and tone down the friends mention. The Bridge is a business proposition and in support of trade and regional investment, there is NO friendship in business. Just wait for Trump and company to sock it to us with tariffs and other barriers. Please be mindful of this when commenting.
Hi Laurent. Your are right about Canada paying for the project 100%. I don't dissagree with your POV either. In my opinion, Canada holding the bill is the fault of a weak government shrugging their shoulders and using monetary easing to create the funds to build the bridge, battery plants, cricket factories, etc, then raise taxes to support their stupidity. The people of the US and Canada are friendly to each other and have been for a long long time. As Will Rogers said, "I never met a man I didn't like." he also said "Give thanks we don't get all the government we pay for." I think we have to wait to see what Trump does once in office. We're in for a ride, but at this point our country is being destroyed by Trudeau and their unfounded agendas. I hope we have an early election. There are no friends in business, only alliances toward one agenda or another, IMPO. However, I have many friends I don't judge one way or the other on nationality. I do agree some of script in the videos is flowerly, but this isn't a political channel, and I try to stay centered. Your points are well taken, and deserved from a political stance. Great post! Keep them coming. Thanks for sharing, Laurent.😎👍
We certainly have a tough time in front of us. Considering the condition of Canada, I like to think it is a new beginning to bring Canada back from the edge of collapse. A new broom sweeps clean. Time will tell.
Howe left Canada. Lived, married, raised his family in the USA American to never return and even though we Canadians are footing the bill for this bridge and connecting road work in Windsor/Essex County and Detroit all in it's entirety we couldn't find a Canadian worthy enough to name the bridge. Why? Was it because a bunch of Red Wing fans sat on the Committee? Keep it, I'll use the Tunnel
No need to apologize. It's the name of a bridge. He was a loved man with a connection to both countries. Imagine, it could of been named the J. Trudeau Crossing! That would be a crime IMPO. However, it doesn't take from the value it offers travellers and commerce. I respect your point of view. No problem!🌉👍

The above response seems detailed enough to believe. I hope this helps.
@@bobjonesrealtor7756 Well thank you Mr. Bob Jones, that was a very inspiring and detailed answer...it helped, I was hoping the bridge lived up to expectations.Great job and content. Also thanks for your response have a nice rest of your evening.
Will do!:)
As Will Rogers said, "I never met a man I didn't like." he also said "Give thanks we don't get all the government we pay for."
I think we have to wait to see what Trump does once in office.
There are no expansion joints, maybe that’s a function of the latex concrete.
I'm pretty sure the control grooves will be cut in later
Hi William. No expansion joints in the bridge deck is what I understand. I think there will be where the bridge deck joins the road deck.
🇺🇸🤝🇨🇦
🌉😎👍
It's ironic that this bridge will be opened during the darkest days of Canada/U.S. relations😢
Hi Schwatzy. A good man is a good man wherever he comes from. JMPO. The Tunnel is pretty cool, too!
@ sorry Bob. Americans would never name a major investment after a foreigner I don't agree with this naming and never will
No need to apologize. It's the name of a bridge. He was a loved man with a connection to both countries. Imagine, it could of been named the J. Trudeau Crossing! That would be a crime IMPO. However, it doesn't take from the value it offers travellers and commerce. I respect your point of view. No problem!🌉👍
Why does @Bob Jones REALTOR speak American instead of Canadian?
Hi Tony. I live in a Canadian bordertown, grew up on American television, hung out with American friends, listened to American radio, because that was what was available. I guess I'm a little mixed up.
However, I Am Canadian!! :)
Thanks for the question
😎👍
Iowa’s wrong.
Hi William. Iowa?
Quit calling Americans "our friends." The sentiment no longer applies.
Hi gjswilson. I appreciate your point of view. Trumps tariff statement raised a lot of eyebrows. Some in hope and some in shock. In spite of the news from the USA incoming President, nothing has changed to make me think the Americans are not my friends. I hope you can accept my point of view as I accept yours. Don't worry, be happy.:) Thanks for the comment.
Horrible video it's way too fast almost nauseating to watch not the content but the speed of the video does not allow you to actually enjoy or see the contact
Hi MrJBrown. Sorry to hear it didn't fit your likes. I do listen to the feedback from the community and use it to better the videos. I appreciate your help and will consider your comment in future productions. Thanks for the help!:)
