I dont understand why so many people attack on RUclips, and hate Juan Martin playing. -They only watch JM videos for criticize him and every time they can, write-down negative comments about him. -JM its a very good flamenco player; Yeesss, there are better flamenco players.....but, Why criticize him with that hate? -JM its a very good flamenco player and a charm person. -For that guys not like Juan Martin playing, there are a simple and effective solution: Dont watch JM videos on RUclips only.
Juan Martin is an excellent flamenco player, one of the best. All this criticism of him on RUclips has to be from some very small, jealous and downright mean people. Juan plays beautiful and has wonderful rhythm.
you can find a great interpretation in his album "musica alhambra", the song is called " Evocación de Damasco a Córdoba". in my opinion it is an amazing version.
FOR SURE he is one of the gods of the guitar. Moreover, he is an amazing composer, what is not so common among players; I love his compositions, especially "Mi Rumba", it is so beautiful. Furthermore, flamenco had never had a teacher such as Juan Martin. What he has done for flamenco school is priceless. If flamenco players have appeared worldwide, thanks for Juan Martin.
Poor old Juan seems to take a lot of flack from various commentators - seeing and listening to him play, I'm at a loss to understand it. The man is certainly no mediocre guitarist...
Totally agree. I saw him play in York to a small crowd, it was utterly awesome. The guy can definitely play. His rasguedo playing la feria is ruddy on point.
nahh i think its fine to dive straight into it.. I am.. Most people in spain do dont they? Ive mainly been a metal speed influenced guitar player ( ya know like satriani metallica etc. ) and now very keen to take on this style.. just bought a admira flamenco too..:)
Sure he makes some mistakes but to say he is a mediocre player is a ridiculous comment! Didn't Juan study with the great Nino Ricardo and Paco de Lucia. All the people that only have negative comments to make should post there own fucking videos if they think they can do better!! Respect to Juan and all the other Flamenco Greats.
And for you, I agree this =) Even though Juan Martins books (atleast the 1 I have) have good base songs that u can evolve urself to a more complicated and better sounding (more Flamenco u know :D). Atleast 1 Guajira I learned from Martins book I customized it later on to a more beautiful conclusion.
What guitar is this? It has the same EXACT rosette in the Conde Hermanos A26, but I doubt Juan Martín would play on a $12000 guitar!!! What do you guys think?
It's Juan Martin's interpretation of the Zambra style usually called the Zambra Mora - tune the 6th string to D and the tab is availible in JM's old tab book exciting sound of flamenco - more advanced interpretations are those by Paco Pena, Manolo Sanlucar, Sabicas- not really a style u see anymore - best of luck
@GuitaristaDeFlamenco he is a advanced disciple of niño ricardo so i don't think he is merely a "tourist performer". at least he is Spanish... i don't give any chance to foreign flamenco guitar players except grisha goryachev people like "hersoveela" here in youtube destroys flamenco's roots.
I prefer musicians playing together rather that sole maestro. Vive la musique! But spanish bullfighters, spanish dancers, spanish flamenco guitarists, and Rafael Nadal have shown me that the spanish blood certainly knows how to be the sole maestro pulling out all stops.
No, I don't think its crappy at all. Certainly not the best I have heard him play (been to one of his concerts front row). Maybe a few glitches here and there but ya never know, he may be playing 'cold'
i agree with you, i don´t like this performance, it seems to me like he is uncomfortable or nervous... but still is a good video. btw, i have a video of La Feria, hehe..
He doesn't have the fire of Paco Pena or Paco de Lucia, but he's no copy'est either, he's a great composer and educator, and promoter of flamenco of many years. Not easy to do that interview and then play cold, under scrutiny of that camera on what was most likely a one take.
My first contact with Flamenco for guitar was his book which came with a cassette. I thought it was brilliant and studied hard. A few years later I got introduced to a flamenco teacher who, after I played a Solea and Buleria perfectly, said that I needed to start again. I was baffled. Why? I asked. He said "you have no compás". I did not know what that meant at the time. He then played a Solea like I never heard before. Compared to Martin's version it might as well have been the difference between Rock and Jazz. It made all the hairs on my body stand up. That instant I knew Juan Martin's method was flawed. Long story short my teacher eventually took me to Cordoba and got me into a class with Paco Peña- This was a life changing experience. While in Cordoba I met Vicente Amigo, who at the time was basically unknown. He was very kind and showed me some falsetas. Needless to say I threw away the book and tape of Juan Martin when I got home and never looked back.
Well related to critics, when Trolls learn to play guitar, record videos and show what they really knows contrary to just made empty criticism ...well, when this happens, turtles will write poems and whales will fly
Flamenco is Spanish and it's from Andalucia.
Phew... what shit is that? Tomatito is one of the great maestros just like Paco De Lucia, Habichuela, Riqueni or Manolo Sanlucar Vicente Amigo etc etc etc...
@nokerti .................Thanks to people like Paco De Lucia, Vicente Amigo, Manolo Sanlucar, Pepe Habichuela, Tomatito etc. for flamenco being recognized in outer world and the technique appreciated and valued. He is merely a tourist perfomer for people who know of nothing better and proper.
check these flamenco guitarists and judge for yourselves whether Guitar Magazinze's statement about Juan Martin being one of the world's top guitarists is true or false: 1. Paco de Lucia 2. Gerardo Nunez 3. Tomatito 4. Chicuelo 5. Vicente Amigo 6. Manolo Sanlucar 7. Moraito 8. Diego del Morao 9. Nino Josele 10. Juan Requena 11. Antonio Rey 12. Paquete 13. Manuel Parilla 14. Pedro Sierra 15. Paco Fernandez 16. Jesus de Rosario 17. Jose Manuel Leon 18. Anton Jimenez 19. Canito 20. Canizares
Are you an expert or something? You don't sound very friendly to people who don't speak perfect English. Considering your name you aren't native English either. I bet you have some sort of fake accent, too.
I have this to say... Do any of you who call him a genius know when the last time was he performed or lived in Spain? How about at least 30 yrs. He is a salesman and does cheesy stuff for the non-flamenco audiences to make it seem like he is actually doing amazing things. In Spain, he would receive tomatoes. Guitar mag said that he is one of the top 3 guitarists in the world; It must be true because they said so!!! An honest/humble artist would never brag about a statement so far from the truth.

I like him and his style a lot. I learn by his book, love the pieces there.
You got to love this guy, I met him in a bar socially and he was so giving and friendly! A 1st class guitarist!
Juan Martin is an excellent flamenco player, one of the best. All this criticism of him on RUclips has to be from some very small, jealous and downright mean people. Juan plays beautiful and has wonderful rhythm.

I get to see him in October on little old PEI of all places. I can't wait!
A very nice lesson from the best... Juan Martin.
What a great video, especially as an introductory piece for people not familiar with Flamenco. Wonderful stuff.
a great player, Juan Martin
I think this is the Conde Hermanos A25F. Beautiful!
Thanks.I love the spirit of gypsys. They r in india too.very happy go people and love their music.
Besides being one of the best flamenco guitarist on earth. He also describes perfectly well in English different styles, techniques and rhythms.
I am from India and very happy to know that the Gypsy influence like Bulerias came from India (Rajastan).
oleeee ese juan martin que arte!!!
I love this guy's style...self taught too
Juan martin is a genius. I love his music and I try to play it .

you can find a great interpretation in his album "musica alhambra", the song is called " Evocación de Damasco a Córdoba".

@curlsters he's hardly a fraudster. just because he isn't the best flamenco guitarist in the world doesn't mean he's crap! he's a good player!
Sure he makes some mistakes but to say he is a mediocre player is a ridiculous comment! Didn't Juan study with the great Nino Ricardo and Paco de Lucia. I prefer musicians playing together rather that sole maestro. Vive la musique! But spanish bullfighters, spanish dancers, spanish flamenco guitarists, and Rafael Nadal have shown me that the spanish blood certainly knows how to be the sole maestro pulling out all stops.
would it be fair to say that one should learn
classical guitar before flamenco guitar,
or could you just dive right into flamenco?
@GuitaristaDeFlamenco
Hello just thought I would let you know that , this gut is from brighton england
his accent is not real but he is not spanish
I think he didnt perform Laferia at its best here...I've seen him play it 'much' better...nevertheless, he is an amazing player and a great teacher!
No, I don't think its crappy at all. Certainly not the best I have heard him play (been to one of his concerts front row). Maybe a few glitches here and there but ya never know, he may be playing 'cold'
he's genius
Fuck me you must be some guitarist if you think this guy is average!
i agree with you, i don´t like this performance, it seems to me like he is uncomfortable or nervous...
but still is a good video.
btw, i have a video of La Feria, hehe..

Well
related to critics, when Trolls learn to play guitar, record videos and show what they really knows contrary to just made empty criticism ...well, when this happens, turtles will write poems and whales will fly
Flamenco is NOT Spanish. It's Andalusian. How many 'cantaores' -flamenco singers- do you know, say, from Galicia or Basque Country?
Flamenco is Spanish and it's from Andalucia. @iamthemusic69
Tomatito is an excellent accompanist, but not that good a solo performer.
I don't understand how anyone could play comfortably in a leather jacket.
Are you an expert or something?
You don't sound very friendly to people who don't speak perfect English.
