Each hemoglobin molecule can bind (carry) four oxygen molecules to supply the tissue, in order to prevent hypoxia.
Decreased hemoglobin is seen in cases of anemia (an + emia; literally; no blood)

Your hematology series is awesome.. thank you so so much ..kindly make such series for neurology (I mean like a course covering all the topics)
Will do...Thanks a lot!
Love your little cars and pictures.. Make it very easy to remember.
Can you please do a video explaining how the genetic defect porphyria effects the Heme mechanism? I liked this video.
That's a great idea!
You are the best Brother , you are making the process so easy for me and many students .. Thank you greetings from Morocco.

Kindly answer my question, its very important for me: In cooperativity binding, whats the sequence of oxygen binding to the hemoglobin subunits, I mean which chain binds to O2 first, and whats the sequence, is it alpha1, then beta1, then alpha2, beta 2?? .Pls ans me soon, will be thankful
Thank you 😊
My pleasure 😇
Thank you so much!
It was so helpful, you're better than my teacher 😭

Chemistry connection . The reason why Fe 2+ is more stable with Oxygen vs Fe 3+ is because of how the electrons fill the orbitals (A levels chem)
Fe : 26th element
Therefore :
Fe = [Ar] 4s2 3d6
Ar represent 18 electrons (18th element)
Fe 3+ = loss 3 electrons, but because s orbitals lower energy than d orbitals, you remove from the 4s first
[Ar] 3d4
Vs
Fe 2+ = 2 electrons lossed = [Ar] 3d5 (loss 2 from 4s)
This half filled 3d subshell is more stable than 3d 4
D subshells can hold 10 electrons, p 6, s 2
So Ferrous is more stable because it has half filled 3d subshell. Vs ferric
Ferric cause fenton rxn :
Fe3+ and O2 ==> trouble aka Reactive oxidative species e.g. OH, O2 2-, H2O2 (which play a active role in many pathologies e.g. G6PD deficiency in hienz body formation)
Result from Methaemaglobineamia which is a ADR to drugs like Sulfanomide (blue baby syndrome) and Benzocaine because they have nitrite deivities. This also promote allergic rxns usually skin related e.g. Steven Johnson Syndrome
Shout of to medicosis for teaching me a good chunk of this. If you're not living off his content by now you're probably missing out
Simple and perfect, love you Dr

You said that everything end with "in" is protein. Then why protorpophyrin is among nonprotein?
Thanks ustadz
There are exceptions to every rule.
@@MedicosisPerfectionalis syukron
I think the iron is non protein it’s a mineral. Protoporphyrin is a protein coded by certain gene.
so cute hemoglobin lol
:)
I had to play it at 1.25 speed, but thought the video was overall very helpful
Thanks 🙏
great
Thank you 🙏
Hello, how does haptoglobin relate to hemoglobin formation? My haptoglobin is high, ferritin is high, but my hemoglobin is low.
Did you talk about sickle cell?
That's good explain . Thanks
You’re very welcome!
Excellent teaching for medicos
Thank You so much 😊
idk if still look at comments 3 years later but why does my university not mention protoporphyrin they say heme= porphyrin and iron not protoporphyrin
I think it’s protoporphyrin, but that’s not a big deal.
Thanks from lraqi student

how does the protein (hemoglobin here) decides the shape of the red blood cell?
I don’t know the mechanism.
@@MedicosisPerfectionalis , thanks for replying. I will keep searching

How haemoglobin binds to oxygen in reversible manner?? I doesn't get how in reversible mannner....
Because hemoglobin can bind oxygen, and can let it go.
@@MedicosisPerfectionalis soo what reversible here??
@@MedicosisPerfectionalis no worry I got it😊
That it can leave it after binding it...Irreversible binding means forever...This is not irreversible.
@@MedicosisPerfectionalis yupzz😄😄
He's high on hemoglobin xD
