I learned SO MUCH from this video! I thought splotchy dolls were a lost cause! This is my favorite doll channel on the WHOLE INTERNET! You guys keep up the good work.I can't wait for the next one!
you are the reason we are even doing these videos. we are just trying to share what we have learned. Every doll teaches us something knew. we are so happy if it helps even a little bit. we appreciate more than we can say all the encouragement you are giving us through your kind comments. 🥰
Thank you! This. particular doll was covered in mold completely inside and out. I kept her separate for months , then let her join the other dolls and she is still mold free. We learned a lot from this doll. we are so happy you enjoyed the video and hope it is of some help .🥰
I am so happy you watched this video so that you know your mom’s doll will be next week! I didn’t want to depend on communicating through Mercari. If you would like to correspond or see a pic of her when she is done you can contact me at diydollartist@gmail.com I am looking forward to starting her restoration!
I love watching your videos. You both are genuine, sweet and entertaining to watch. I love learning how to restore vintage dolls. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! What state are you all located in?
Thank you so much, that is very kind of you to say. I am so happy you are enjoying them and they are helpful. We are in the northeast, a picturesque place in Vermont. Beautiful to look at, but very few places that have dolls. We find a few here or there but mostly on the internet.🥰
no it won’t because we are working with different materials. I purchased a doll with the Same materials you are referring to that has mold I haven had time to figure out what a safe process is to cure her problems. But I think about it often. when I solve her problems I’ll solve yours . in the mean time do not store them in plastic. wrap them in tissue paper and put them in a cardboard box. out of moisture and heat . my physical problems and the channel take all of our time. it’s a full time job.
I use a high quality artists fluid acrylic. Then seal it with a non yellowing top coat. But I only do this as a last resort as it is very difficult to match a dolls paint color, and I prefer leaving them original if possible. Hope this helps.
thats not mold, thats leaching plasticizer, basically the plastic is so old its breaking down, if it feels waxy and smells like old vomit its not reparable and its best to just throw it away, no oils or scented liquids will get the smell out regardless how hard you clean it
thank you for your input. I always like to learn and hear others perspectives. these. dolls that I have worked with haven’t had anything waxy on them at all. Also none of them have had that Oder you and others have spoke about. So far the process that we are using works well and over the long term. So we are probably working with dolls that are not that far along in the process that you are referring to. I have seen some of those dolls on line and I agree the best thing to do is throw them away. we had a Toni doll head that the metal was so corroded and it did smell some but I felt was a lost cause and I did throw it away.

Cleaning the dolls is something I can do. I have some Magic Eraser at home; my new project.
I am happy the video was helpful, that is why we are putting them on.🥰
Will this process work on a strawberry shortcake doll that you squeeze the stomach and it blows kisses?

What kind of paint do you use if you repaint a hard plastic doll?
