In the case of the Wisconsin Windigo, you could have easily obtained the records for their precursor - the Minnesota Magicians. The same is true for some of the other teams in the league that have moved around.

Thanks for the info....but how many players had NCAA committments before starting to play for these teams (and were essentially assigned to these NAHL teams by their NCAA programs) and how many players earned their NCAA committments while playing for these teams?

This is a great question! With the large data set we used, it was difficult to filter through to find this information. However, after reviewing a sample size, we can estimate that 20-30% were already committed before playing for their NAHL teams. Hope this answers the question!

I work for the Ice Wolves. Players are not assigned by a college, it's a Junior League aged 16-20. Players play in the NAHL and NA3HL to get noticed by colleges

@@ahadvising8that's incorrect, few if any kids are already committed to college before joining the league

@@ahadvising8 I work for a team in the league, zero players are already committed to an NCAA team when they come to the NAHL. Some sign commitment letters a year or 2 before aging out, but they're not assigned. The NAHL uses tender contracts and a draft to build their teams

Does commitment mean they are definitely on the D1 team or do they still have to make cuts at training camp before getting on roster? I find this data a little strange because teams only have so many players that dress for games. Then there is USHL, AJHL, BCHL, overseas etc etc so I can’t imagine that many players coming from NAHL. Or is there practice squads ?

Good question, we didn’t dissect that data. However, you could get a general idea by looking at the NAHL website- this is where we gathered our data: nahl.com/player-advancement/college/
