the female VA playing Yuki at the start also played Midori (renamed Nebula) when Gaiking was bought over to the Jim Terry Force Five dubs in the 70s. must of been a thing for these people to be cast in these often badly wrote re-dubs of Japanese anime at the time.
The acting is perfect actually. The writing is just...special. But is a funny way. Which is a good thing, I guess, since it was obviously meant to be funny. Tho, I get the feeling it's less than slightly accurate to the Japanese script.
Funimation still exists. They like to do awful dubs from time to time. Like anything Dragon Ball, (Crayon) Shin-chan, etc. They like to make dubs that resemble abridged series (and these old dubs).

I can't think of any "abridged series" style ones, but I also don't look through their whole back catalogue including the shitty otaku-bait series that they sometimes buy and dub for some reason even though I can't imagine that it has a western audience. They definitely have a lot of _that_ .

Yes this is a real dub people paid actual money for. It lasted 2 episodes & nobody working on it took anything seriously.
