  • In this Sketch Practice Diary video I am learning to draw in an anime/manga style using imagery from the Fire Emblem Heroes game! This isn’t so much a “how to draw anime” tutorial, though it does analyze this anime style, but rather a drawing practice process video using a manga drawing style as the focus of the study. We study how to draw anime eyes, noses, and mouths, one by one using a particular practice methodology. Draw along with me and let’s improve together!

Wow - both amazing artists, thank you for sharing. I think I'll definitely focus on them for a part 2 of this study at some point in the (hopefully near) future. Do you have any other favorite artists? I have a feeling I'll vibe with your art tastes.

Personally I too really prefer the longer, slower videos. I do find value in following the process in real time! It’s easier to relate to.

Thanks for letting me know man! I was wondering if it would be beneficial. I get that - it's easier to relate and I enjoy drawing along in real time while I do my own practicing. Is there any art or artist's style in particular that you're studying recently?

@@PencilPower I’m not sure* what happened but I wrote out a whole reply and it disappeared. Anyway, govy9807, jelarts and joshmckelvey though I wish my comment hadn’t lost the rest of what I’d written!

@@teathomas Noooo :[ I want to know what else you had replied... but maybe there's some cosmic reason for it hmmm.. DUDE _ Love this govy9807's style. wow. Jiving with jelarts style too - weird thing is that pic of the girl with yellow birds in her hair that comes up when I search "jelarts" ...... I was just drawing anime characters with yellow birds in the hair that look reaalllyy similar yesterday. Wish I could attach a pic here to show you. Anyways kinda a spooky coincidence. I take it as some sort of sign but I don't know what the sign means yet - will require some investigation. Haha, joshmckelvey has a weird vibe but I kinda dig it. But of the 3 govy is the one that I'm most inspired by. You might see a video of me studying his style at some point!

@@PencilPower heck yeah looking forward to it!
My previous comment that vanished was mostly just responding that I’m just trying to find some comfort with drawing. A lot of people do warm-up doodling before drawing to get their hand comfortable, and I’m finding that discomfort doesn’t go away even when I’m working on a piece for a while. I don’t know if it’s my medium or just that I don’t draw enough. Just finished graphic design school and sadly I missed most of the early drawing classes because I was a transfer student, so I don’t have that natural comfort with my (digital) pen. Often I draw and it just doesn’t feel right. But I don’t sit down and draw daily, and it’s likely a lack of time investment.

@@teathomas Yes, definitely time investment is one of the most major factors of course. However I understand the frustration... Have you seen my How to Create Your Own Art Study Curriculum video on Pen & Blade? That strategy really helped me out. Here's the link if not: ruclips.net/video/xena2qiiFmo/видео.html Also I wonder if the Puzzle Piece method on this channel might be helpful for you to use while studying the artwork of some of the artists you mentioned in an earlier comment...
