Cody - your incredible playing & articulate descriptions are a major element to what attracted us to Sounds Like a Drum. Many thanks to you & Ben. You have a dynamic team that is second to none. Here’s to 2021 - let’s tear it up together!!!!!
I will say, to my ears, this is the best that kit has sounded. They are extremely clean and have great tonality. The attack is very nice without being overbearing. Winner at all the tunings. I have always preferred the higher tunings but I play much larger drums so I get more low end from the shells. They sound really great.
I love how experimental and insanely interesting this channel is. I would love to see a video where you would test the difference between two identical toms, where one of them has the mount directly bolted onto the shell while the other has a non penetrating mount like RIMS or Optimount. That would be terrific 😍🎼
They sound kinda similar to Remo coated Vintage Ambassadors that are actually double ply but not as thick as an Emperor. I was not aware of that fact until recently. Also Aquarian makes a similar head with the same specs I like as well. I’ve been a drum tech for over 30 years and just recently started watching RUclips videos and Cody is my new hero. I really like how thorough he is explaining details and his calm cool personality which is the opposite of myself which is another reason I enjoy his videos. Have a great 2021 Cody... You rock.
The Remo Vintage A is a 7mil + 3mil, so it's 2 ply but the same thickness as a regular Ambassador. Aquarian has the Super 2 which is 7mil + 5mil, and they are some of my favorite drum heads. Would highly recommend them for just about everything! Attack also makes a 12 mil 2 ply head that was featured in an earlier Sounds Like A Drum video. Definitely check it out!
I tend to go towards between using Evans360 heads and Aquarain drum heads , but I have certainly tried Attack Drum heads as well! I bought an Orbit Bass Drum Head and it sounds great! Trying different heads is great because it makes you feel like an artist and want to play/ create! Thanks again for posting this video!
HMM, these sound great . Making me think of picking up some sticks, getting the practice pad out - and then the kit!!!! Always enjoy your videos and your playing. Tasteful and enducational! Thank you all at Sounds Like a Drum - - Best New Years ever to you all. (Wow just read Attack Drumheads comments and could not agree more.) It makes me want to play some of these heads instead of my Evans :)

Yeah, that 16” is nice. All three tubings here work great. And in several other vids, as well as this one, it’s been my favorite of the three toms. These heads would be great on a kit that has to walk into unknown situations and where you might have to tune lower or higher than you expect. You won’t get stuck trying to tune a heavy head higher than it can satisfactorily go, or a thinner one lower. The small toms prefer higher IMO but still work down low. I’ve been thinking I’d go Aquarian for my next head change but your vids have me considering Attack.
I just put a set of these in clear on my Pearl Visions. They do have a “unique” feel and sound to them. They sound good both close up and a few feet away. Seem to have fewer unwanted overtones than maybe a comparable Ambassador head. They have a noticeable “click” attack sound from the stick. I do like the feel of the drums with these heads.
Lol good Lord. That floor Tom tuned super low. Still sounds awesome. I don't hit like super hard but I do tend to sit behind my kit quite a bit,I'm just wondering how durable before I start getting that time my ear picks up when it's time for new ones.
Cody, great video. Yes, keep drumming. I don't think I heard any reference whether you tuned the reso heads. After much dabbling , dealing with xmas gifted cheapo Gammon drum kit in 2018, with all heads replaced with Evans G1 clear tom batter heads, and coated reso heads, i have approached a good overall Tom sound, except the 16 inch Floor Tom. I have 5 moongels on that drum head to cut the "ringing" . I'M thinking of trying these Attack Heads ? Aside from that, any other suggestions to control the resonance of the floor tom. My kit includes 12 and 13 inch mpunted Toms and the 16 inch floor tom. The snare was replaced with DW Nickel / Brass snare , purchased used , wow what difference. The snare has Evans HD Dry batter head , tabletop tight clear reso bead. Happy New Year to all, despite the Capital Havoc ....... so sad
Cody, thank you for doing these videos. You said you are a single ply guy and always have been. Having tested out both the Royal 1 and Proflex 1, which one would you say is the best fit for a 1964 Ludwig Super Classic? I have a 13” and 16” toms. It’s my dad’s drum set from when he used to play gigs, and the only set I’ve ever played on. I play more rock, country, pop stuff on it and have been using 2 ply mostly on Tom batters, but in trying to restore the kit to a more original sound, I am interested in switching back to single ply. Both Royal and Proflex sound great, but which do you think is better given the styles I like to play?
Those sound great, but I'm still just a Fiberskyn or calf-skin, old-school-sound, kinda guy. But, these heads are a really good option with a wide & versatile range.
@@BayouMaccabee I love the Evans calftone line but got really tired of the bubbling. I hear Evans made some improvements and want to give them a try again. That warm fat tone is insane.
@Ian Muessig I haven't tried the Evans Calftones. I have been really happy with Remo Fiberskyns, but I guess I should give the Evans a try to see if I can find something I like better than the Fiberskyn. I'm intrigued by the kangaroo skin heads from a company called Kentville out of Australia...been thinking about giving those a try too. I know this Sounds Like A Drum channel did a review of them already, but I'd like to try them out for myself someday.
I recently added a single ply yo my kick i play metal added a danmark patch and holly molly i ordered the $50 pack at sweetwater all new attack heads yep
@@SoundsLikeADrum I’m played snare in HS concert band but never a drum set. Which of your videos would you recommend to get started or any other material? Thanks
That’s a good start. Remo Ambassadors tend to start losing their coating after about 6hrs of heavyish gigging time for me on my snare, so I usually have to go with something with a dot on it.
This is not a very good demo of these heads. Most people don't have a kit with all Die Cast hoops. So they sound great, but it may be the drum and hoops. What do they sound like with normal triple flange 1.6mm or 2.3mm?
These heads are an unbeatable value in general purpose drum heads. Nothing fancy, just a nice reliable drum head that sounds good. Coated on my snare and the clears on my toms and they just sing.

These drum heads really seem to get a lot of sustain out of the drums at every tone level. Very nice tone. 🥁❤

I’ve bought their resonant heads for my backup snares. It took alot of stretching to tune them.

Wow they sound great seem pretty cool nice to see something new out there

I enjoyed listening to all three tunings, IMHO any of the tunings would work for me, however, my favorite was the middle tuning.
Always enjoy your presentations.
They make those drums sing nicely
Gotta agree 100% 😉

Ha! Just a different option. All of these things are a means to an end- tools for creating music.

Or even the snare itself but either way much love and respect
Really appreciate your work
I have always liked them on snares. Where can you buy attack heads though?
ANY music store / drum shops can order them at sales@cardinalpercussion.com
@@cardinalpercussionwholesal1597 Thanks I just seen your response.
Where are these drum heads availble?
... also, are you tuning batter and reso the same, or batter higher or lower than reso?
When you change the tuning in the video, are you changing the reso head also?
Show me what the drums sound like with out all that compression and EQ
You’re listening to them. No EQ or Compression used on our demos unless noted.
Man, they really do sound fantastic tuned down low. And that snare is FAT down there...
A Jedi would know for sure 😉
@@cardinalpercussionwholesal1597 Might just have to try a set. I have a compact kit for small venues, and getting smaller drums tuned low is tricky.
Do you usually play with a 5 piece or 4 piece drums set
Usually 4, sometimes 5 but with a second floor Tom rather than another up high. -Cody

I wonder how durable they are?
Hard to quantify that but after hours of playing at a range of tunings they look brand new...
That’s a good start. Remo Ambassadors tend to start losing their coating after about 6hrs of heavyish gigging time for me on my snare, so I usually have to go with something with a dot on it.

Three different reviews for each head, WHY not add 6 different brands of drums as well?
Ambass. Copy
And yet the coating lasts, the break in time is virtually non-existent so it seems to have a leg up on the Ambassador. 🤷🏼♂️
And let’s not forget the price! Soooo affordable 😊
