@@kyleswan I don't know what your plans are, but I would say get some better recording equipment and make a fully mastered studio version of this. it will blow up :D
Idk if you’re familiar with the Netflix show Lucifer but your interpretation would be a great addition to the live, raw covers that he does in episodes. Absolutely love this
!!!!!!! I listened to this over and over again and screen recorded it and shared it to my ig stories (w your RUclips name ofc). But wtf! Hey, where have youuuu beeeen?
this cover is amazing omg...........could you maybe consider posting tutorial/transcript for this? but either way this is just incredible so glad i stumbled upon this.
Hey I just saw this! That's a good idea. I don't think I could do a transcript though because I don't really read or write music very well. I could probably go over some of the approaches though.. and how i pseudo-arranged it. I had a basic plan, but it was an improvised take that wasn't really planned out was more about the feeling I'm surprised and very humbled at the response it has gotten here. If enough of you want me to break it down I could do that. Trying to grow this channel and not sure exactly what I'm doing here, haha, so we could take it to a vote.. I've got some more covers lined up to do soon, but if there's enough of you that wanted that side of things, I could make it happen in some form... What's everyone think? the behind the scenes musical-nerd approach side of things? or more performances?
heyy i love this!! i was wondering whered you get the music sheets or i dont know what'd you use but whered u get the music sheets? Haha thank you for this!!
Is there any way i could give you a tip or something? Been stuck on this video for months and i cant get enough, feels like I rip you off! Also, are there any sheets to this particular version?
Thank you! That's very kind of you. I'm on venmo @kyle-swan-10 if you really want to. I got to be honest though, I'd share the sheet music, but I don't really read. I learned jazz, and blues at a young age, and I break things down into their simplest forms, and learn them that way, and then take liberties when playing based on scales and theory etc and expand in the moment. That way i can't make a mistake really, because I never learned it verbatim (as they do in classical music etc). Then try to create some kind of cohesion from there, and an organic ebb and flow, building layers, movement, repeating melodies etc. Sometimes chords in the left hand, mid register with octave melodies on top, sometives octave baselines down low with the chords above, sometimes opposing molody and bassline etc.. So, all I was thinking was the chords and the over arching plan for getting in and out of the song while creating interesting variations on a theme, and often returning to ideas, to make the piece structurally sound overall. That said, The chords are: verse: Am, C, F7, E7 Chorus: F7,E7, Am, C I could teach the different approaches, and I'm contemplating doing some zoom lessons in the future, but I did not memorize or write down anything except the chords above and the words, along with that guitar melody played in the right hand with octaves occaisionally. I'd be happy to share otherwise, but probably someone could write it out better than me, since I learned by ear, and with jazz theory, and studied the makeup of different genres, but never actually read music except at an embarrassingly slow rate very rarely.
@@kyleswan your amazing style really got me replaying this video over the past YEAR! Even tried to pause it and write down which keys you were playing lol this is how desperate some of us may be trying to get to your level! So if ever ever ever you would decide to give any online class on the jazzy way you’ve played the Pixies, please count me in 🙌🏻
Hmm, I didn't think I could do that legally since it's a cover, but It looks like I can. For whatever reason, this video is getting way more traffic than my others... I'm actually getting ready to do some studio recordings, so I may do that. Spotify?
@@kyleswan absolutely, I think there's a procedure to post covers to avoid copyright issues. You should look into that and post it on spotify and maybe other streaming services. Your arrangement is pretty interesting too, so I'm sure it'll get a lot of traction.
@@kyleswan it's got that jazzy bassline with the simple rhythm guitar bit. Too smooth for school! What they [The Pixies] did on the first few albums that made them appealing is, tap in to a paranoia and self loathing only previously heard in "How soon is now?" by the Smiths. They sound nothing like the Smiths I know but, it has that feel sewn in to its DNA. So they can pull off Lounge, Garage, Punk or "Here comes your Man" style, I always thought the lead melody sounded Roy Orbison(ish), and it still has that "Amazing grace" - "Even a wretch like me" kind of feeling to it! I love em!
Bro it is 3 am and think is the best cover I’ve heard of my favorite song
I love this tune, and the Pixies in general are a pretty amazing band. Glad you like it!
