The changüí is a music of rural or montuna origin. It emerged, just like the son, in the eastern part of the island of Cuba, more specifically in the municipalities near the city of Guantanamo. The changúi is derived from Nengón and its birth, at the end of the 19th century, is linked to figures such as the three-man Nené Manfugás.
The musical formation of the changüí is composed of marímbula, bongó, tres and Güiro or maracas, as well as one or more singers. The rhythm lacks "key of son" although its presence can be felt in the rhythmic pattern of the three.
Marímbula Afro-Cuban, instrument that acts as bass in the Changüí
In the traditional changüí several phases stand out, namely:
    call to montuno
    execution
    street steps
    singing
    discharge
    farewell
The changüí, the son habanero and the sucu-sucu were developed, with the peculiarities of their region of origin, between 1915 and 1935. The son, also originally from the east, would become a decisive musical influence throughout the Caribbean basin Hispanic and in some cities in the US with important Spanish-speaking minorities.
His influence came to be felt even in the continental Caribbean, as in the case of the Colombian joint.
Elio Revé brought the rhythm of changüí to Havana in 1955. Later, Revé evolved into a new way of making music that he called changüi-son.
