When I got my first job at a pizza place, at first I was really excited about being able to learn the process of making pizza and every pizza I made was really fun. But after experiencing dinner rush after dinner rush, it became hell. The section on editing reminded me of that. When you learn something new, it can be tolerable, even fun, but having to do it over and over again for hours at a time, day after day, makes it get SO old, so fast.
omg the same for me with my first subway job! once i got used to it, i enjoyed it a bit which was a little surprising since i got hired for rush hour, but getting into a rhythm made it enjoyable. that enjoyment was sucked out the second i started getting scheduled for night shifts tho lol
Having your own schedule is the best privilege I can think of. I'm going on a spontaneous road trip tomorrow, didn't have to ask anyone. I'll just work a little harder next week to make up for it. When i was at mcdonalds my brother was in the hospital after an accident and they were like "but it's dinner rush......"
This is the most self aware, nuanced commentary I’ve seen an influencer/content creator make about this topic. The way I see people talking about it online usually at best makes me roll my eyes and at worst feels like a slap in the face as a viewer. To be fair, I think for me personally (and probably a lot of other viewers/consumers of content) is that I’m straight up just kind of bitter about the money. I’m broke as fuck, and finding a job as a person with mental illness has been an absolute nightmare even with the privilege of a college degree. And i think the more unstable my life gets the more I’m finding it hard to relate to creators that I actually really love. But like.. that’s a reflection of me and not the influencer. Im just broke and bitter and should stop watching people who make me feel bad about myself lol. And this is probably the same for a lot of other people who give influencer’s shit.
I feel you. Working multiple gig economy jobs and STILL having to go on govt benefits sucks shit, and then carving out time and energy for youtube… wahhhhh. I would much rather make videos all day for $10k a month than the shit I’m doing now, I can tell u that.

Doesn't work like that. There should always be an arguement for which job is harder relative to their pay. Count yourself lucky that you do not have to die for qatar government working no wage just to build a stadium that's gonna get deconstructed lol.
What rubs people off is that being an influences is your own choice. If you don’t like it you can quit in a min and get a ‘normal’ job with bosses etc. But the other way around is not possible! So why complain by comparising if it’s a personal choice?

It might not be a lot of work but the pay is definitely justified in my opinion. I consume RUclips as entertainment more than TV and netflix these days. No matter what it is, vlogs/podcasts/asmr/mukbangs it's all entertainment and these creators deserve good pay
influencer/youtubing can be freeing but also a privilege, so i think this is an important convo to be had in this day and age! also! WHERE ARE THE DICE EARRINGS FROM?
Influencers and content creators need to STOP publicly telling the internet what they are "writing off" because it can and will be used against you if you get audited. There's strict established rules on what can or can't be, and anything you gain "personal enjoyment or use" (like your apartment) isn't on the ok list. I say this as a tax CPA who filed for billionaires. You won't be thrown in jail but you are eroding your own defense for when they send a notice.
I think there's also a more complicated question with kids being made into internet stars, or part of their parent's influencer brands, which is not just the violations of labor laws that are absolutely happening, but also what constitutes "labor" in those environments? When your whole life becomes "content" the lines between what is work and what is not are super unclear, which I imagine is even worse for those kids who are in that situation.
I think influencers try to “prove” that they work hard because a lot of the discourse around influencers (at least that I’ve seen) is about how we literally don’t do ANYTHING, and then when we get defensive about that, we get dragged 😭 but I completely agree with everything you said in this video (p.s. your apartment is so beautiful it just always looks good in the background good work)
As someone who started my own business and worked for myself full time at 20 (after many shitty jobs) and now I am just not financially or physicially able to sustain it anymore, I totally agree that everyone should work for themselves if they can. However I think it’s so crucial that you make sure you have a consistent clientele or whatever the equivalent may be, lots of savings, and the motivation/willpower to succeed. It’s hard to admit you don’t, but personally I jumped in way too fast, and while I don’t necessarily regret it, I know there are things I could’ve done that would have made it a possibility to hold out that career longer. While it may be frustrating, its way easier to wait until you’re really ready to make the move to work for yourself full time than to do it too quickly and end up quitting and going back to working for a company 😅
And as you said, trying to not make it your whole life. It’s so difficult in the beginning but so important to have a work/life balance if it’s something you want to continue long term. Just my advice for anyone who may be starting their own business or working as an independent contractor, I wish you all the best of luck!

Even as a working class person, my jobs as a teen were 1000× harder than mine rn. What is up with that?? and my pay has more than doubled. I've never given this much thought, how ridiculous
i wish quiet quitting was a thing when i was younger. i worked a full time job at a retirement home while in college where i was severely underpaid and overworked. they took advantage of my youth and my not knowing my rights. they literally had me clean up after a resident took his life in the facility. me at 17 cleaning that shit up. and of course there were no resources for the aftermath of having to see/deal with that.
I used to work jobs where I clocked in and clocked out, now I do the same amount of hours but it's more project based so I can do it at any time. I 100% get the mentality of the whole wanting to say you work 24/7 thing, bc if you have not even poor time management skills, but even average management skills, project work spreads throughout your entire week. It's insanely hard to motivate yourself to have five sessions of 8 hours of work. In that way, it is harder, bc it's pulling at a skill that you don't develop until prob a couple years of the job. That being said, it is unfair to act like you do double shifts because you work throughout the day. Independent time management is hard, but it's not the same as overtime.

This is an over all great video! If I had to say one thing, it would be that from what I’ve seen, when influencers say “I’m always at work” it is not because they’re always working, it’s because they are always at their place of work and thus their brain never leaves that place. They always feel like they could/should be doing more. because they don’t have set hours, it is hard to create boundaries around their work life and their relaxation time.
once again, our queen nicole has spoken her speech with honest. lately i have been touching on some content creator work and comparing to the work i have done, i really do enjoy making content. and now hearing what you said makes me wonder... maybe my future isn't that pitch black. thank you for another great video and really love hearing ur opinion on everything!
we were just talking about this in my spanish class the other day!! it was very weird doing a whole unit on influencers and pretending i was not a youtuber lol 😭 and i also feel like i need new channels to watch, but izzzyzzz is one of my favorites!! :-)
wow I just realized I actually watched some of your videos a few years ago, back when you were an RA. and now ive been watching these more essay-style videos, and had no clue you were the same person until now! anyway glad you dont have to be an RA anymore, and thanks for making these videos!
I’m glad you spoke about this, at the end of the day any job can be hard, I think it’s more about whether the positives outweigh the negative. I recently quit my job as it was making me more mentally ill, luckily I have college to fall back on, but damn if I didn’t have college I don’t know what I would do. Society is literally built on capitalism now, its engrained in our brains to make money which means no matter what the job is as long as we are getting paid good then you can’t complain. But I’m at my rope with that idea, I’m ready to have a job that the positives outweigh the negatives.
girl this video is helping me wrap up some final thoughts for a review of Wes Craven's 1996 Scream (Courteney Cox's character's insensitivity to real people's tragedy as a metacommentary yaddayaddayadda)! anyway, this vid got me more into the halloween/spooky szn than true crime content ever will lmao. thank you for your beautiful godly brain thoughts nicole!!!

this is so off topic but i had to spit it out because i think you would love to hear it i’m an Iranian girl who is diagnosed with ocd and anxiety, and i’m still studying at highschool. we’re getting through so mant stressful days these times and if you’re not aware, our government is killing our people due to the protests of “women, life, freedom”. we’re trying to make a revolution and everything is a mess here and it’s hard to find a comfort zone especially on the internet cause our platform is filled with overwhelming news of people in MY AGE (im 16) dying because of their personal choices. and i find your channel so comforting to the pount where i binge watch your videos to keep my sanity and distract myself from everything. i find your content very interesting and entertaining and i also like you as a person. you’ve had such a huge impact on me and my mental health and i owe a part of my happiness to you and i just wanted to say thank you for taking your time and doing your best job at being a full-time youtuber. you’re saving some people out there🤍 stay safe xoxo
I love these chatty, reflective sit down videos. I've been uploading to my RUclips channel consistently for a little over a year (except for the last two months because life was just too much for a while) and it's not easy, but I also love it! I would like to make this into something I can make money off, even if it's just a little, but I know that that takes a lot of effort, consistency and luck. I can only guarantee the first two though :)
Lol we're never dropping the pantry chicken here! I work in market research for corporate reputation and these influencer scandals are EXACTLY the types of scenarios companies spend a lot of money with us and PR agencies to prevent or recover from.
I'm a tattoo artist so I work for myself and it's awesome, but getting into it I was told that when you work for yourself you'll be working 24/7... like no I think you just have poor work-life balance, set boundaries with yourself babes
shes from boston/massachusetts i think and im from boston but dont have the accent and the way she says tarte is so funny and satisfying to me even tho i dont laugh when my family says it that way
I could never be a content creator. Mostly because I'm not a very creative person, but also because I can't make myself commit to something unless I have a set time frame and set of instructions and a boss to guide me (autism does that to me lol)
Commenting as a content creator with a full-time office job, I think about this a lot because from both perspectives, both my jobs have their negatives and, yet, I can't complain about either of them. I've had teenage jobs but nowadays to my parents, who work working class jobs, my office job where I can work from home most of the week is a luxury they don't have. Yet I wish I could be a full time creator because I want *more* flexibility, to work fully remote while travelling, etc. We're never happy with what we have 😅😭
Saluting and taking a moment of silence for the essential Influencer workers today 😩😩

love your channel 💗
When your opening song comes on to your youtube videos, my serotonin receptors go crazy....
Thanks nicole. :]
what’s considered “working hard” for one person might be sooooo different than someone else’s definition
I love your obsession w Strokes. Theyre amazing
we were just talking about this in my spanish class the other day!! it was very weird doing a whole unit on influencers and pretending i was not a youtuber lol 😭 and i also feel like i need new channels to watch, but izzzyzzz is one of my favorites!! :-)
I love them sm
love u miss nasty
I love listening to you talk strong 🫶
wow I just realized I actually watched some of your videos a few years ago, back when you were an RA. and now ive been watching these more essay-style videos, and had no clue you were the same person until now! anyway glad you dont have to be an RA anymore, and thanks for making these videos!
I love that I understood the chicken in the pantry comment
Life With Symone & I Am Asia are my absolute favorite storytime channels
I'm so serious please watch them they crack me up
girl this video is helping me wrap up some final thoughts for a review of Wes Craven's 1996 Scream (Courteney Cox's character's insensitivity to real people's tragedy as a metacommentary yaddayaddayadda)! anyway, this vid got me more into the halloween/spooky szn than true crime content ever will lmao. thank you for your beautiful godly brain thoughts nicole!!!
this is the rise of nikki nasty
I listen to your videos at 1.5 speed and I just accidentally switched back to normal and I thought you were super unwell for a second. I forgot that people don’t all talk as fast as me 💀
Yes, I agree. Being a content creator is so much easier compared to every other job I've had.
The shade at the rotisserie roommate💀
Honestly I have a lot of respect for people who can be productive working for themselves without a set schedule. I am not built like that
I love CJ the X everyone should follow them because i want their greatest nightmare of becoming mainstream and standard to come true also he's just really good
Freaking love this, you're a vibe. From a half polish 🇵🇱 influencer influencing influence in Australia 🙄 xx
this is so off topic but i had to spit it out because i think you would love to hear it
i’m an Iranian girl who is diagnosed with ocd and anxiety, and i’m still studying at highschool.
we’re getting through so mant stressful days these times and if you’re not aware, our government is killing our people due to the protests of “women, life, freedom”. we’re trying to make a revolution and everything is a mess here and it’s hard to find a comfort zone especially on the internet cause our platform is filled with overwhelming news of people in MY AGE (im 16) dying because of their personal choices.
and i find your channel so comforting to the pount where i binge watch your videos to keep my sanity and distract myself from everything. i find your content very interesting and entertaining and i also like you as a person. you’ve had such a huge impact on me and my mental health and i owe a part of my happiness to you and i just wanted to say thank you for taking your time and doing your best job at being a full-time youtuber. you’re saving some people out there🤍 stay safe xoxo
I can only guarantee the first two though :)
graysons projects is someone whos content I enjoy watching when I want to turn my brain off and not think about work
Lol we're never dropping the pantry chicken here! I work in market research for corporate reputation and these influencer scandals are EXACTLY the types of scenarios companies spend a lot of money with us and PR agencies to prevent or recover from.
i love your humor
i love u!!
ily too!!!!
I'm a tattoo artist so I work for myself and it's awesome, but getting into it I was told that when you work for yourself you'll be working 24/7... like no I think you just have poor work-life balance, set boundaries with yourself babes
I love that little dash of shade at your old roommate with the chicken in the pantry & the lil ✨if you know, you know✨🤌🏻
I’m here for the title
shes from boston/massachusetts i think and im from boston but dont have the accent and the way she says tarte is so funny and satisfying to me even tho i dont laugh when my family says it that way
nicole YOU'RE my favorite content creator
I couldn't imagine being an influencer! I have to do my companies social media and I hate it, to have my whole job be that would be so so hard.
i still haven’t watched the video but GOD I LOVE YOUR HAIR
I love this, and very accurate 😂
AHH UR ALMOST AT 500K
i’m gonna pee
the fact that I got a U.S. army mid-roll ad during this video is taking me out
This is so insightful
I could never be a content creator. Mostly because I'm not a very creative person, but also because I can't make myself commit to something unless I have a set time frame and set of instructions and a boss to guide me (autism does that to me lol)
I loove ur commentary style videos, reminds me of the forgotten podcast lol
But have u considered getting a Pop Filter? 👀
