It's possible to know who someone is from just a phone number I'm pretty sure (name, etc). So roblox could use that for whatever purposes, or sell correlative information to interested parties like advertisers.

it's not really a double standard, honestly, Roblox should at least realize the cons of a restriction feature. not every nations support Roblox's phone verification feature, so it would be disappointing. also, it will discourage even more casual/recent players, because not everyone is comfortable with sharing their sensitive information to a big corp.
I will be honest, if you look at the upsides of the phone number requirements for newer accounts to join groups and send friend requests, it might be a way that Roblox is combating predators on the sight, as if one account gets banned, they cant just make a new account and go back into the scene as easily as they used to (also prevents children from falling victims to these, though there should be a way to bypass the friend thingy to add people you know, like a trusted friend code or something like that). The only thing that would suck is that newer users can't join a community, make friends, or join groups for exclusive rewards if they don't have a valid phone number.

i hope the vent is not spammed with layered clothing and actual good items that aren't layered clothings that cost 50-250 robux each.
a lot of people are mad with roblox getting strict with kids and stuff but everyones always saying how unsafe for kids roblox is, and now that roblox is fixing that, they get mad. its kinda sad.
it's not really a double standard, honestly, Roblox should at least realize the cons of a restriction feature. not every nations support Roblox's phone verification feature, so it would be disappointing. also, it will discourage even more casual/recent players, because not everyone is comfortable with sharing their sensitive information to a big corp.
I will be honest, if you look at the upsides of the phone number requirements for newer accounts to join groups and send friend requests, it might be a way that Roblox is combating predators on the sight, as if one account gets banned, they cant just make a new account and go back into the scene as easily as they used to (also prevents children from falling victims to these, though there should be a way to bypass the friend thingy to add people you know, like a trusted friend code or something like that). The only thing that would suck is that newer users can't join a community, make friends, or join groups for exclusive rewards if they don't have a valid phone number.
What I think is coming to Roblox (only 3 things) 1. Christmas events.
2. Portals like in the hunt event
3. Sonic movie 3 event

I've never spent robux on changing my username and I never plan/planned to, and I don't like this sudden change. The layered clothing fix is good cause when I was playing a Roblox game there was this one user that was wearing legs that looked like something that a Stripper would have because of this layered clothing bug
I don't know exactly how to feel about the phone number thing, but I will say that I trust Roblox more with my phone number than my ID 💀
