I collected a bunch of mechanic's coveralls that were 'worn out'. The uniform rental company that supplied our mechanics' shop with them sold them to me for $1 each, once they got too stained or developed holes.
I don't care about stains, and patching most of those holes is easy to do. Wearing coveralls home over your regular clothes will help to maintain a 'gray man' approach, and easily stripped off and left outside if subjected to contamination. I've never seen any with a hood, so carry a hoodie, gaiter and safety goggles to top off the protection. Easy to keep in your bugout, or get home bag along with some oversize rubber bands to clamp down the ankles and wrists.

Great job Dave! You mentioned it but I think it needs to be stressed for those untrained persons.....that the coverall/poncho is to be considered a throw away item to be discarded outside your shelters habitable spaces......not for reuse.....you should have several of these coverings for each person and consider them used up once they have been exposed to the outside elements. They are contaminated once used so don't put them back on to go outside.....only use a new uncontaminated one. Likewise, filter cartridges will build up radioactive dust "hot spots" on the outside surfaces as you breath, so leave them outside your sheltered area in a plastic bag....use a new filter as much as possible.

Hey Dave, Question that you may or may not know the answer to, I know studies have been done to find out that 12" of concrete is needed for good protection. But, has anyone ever figured out how many layers of drywall are needed for fallout protection? If someone made a "fallout room" with 12" of solid sheetrock on all sides would that have a major impact on reducing the radiation?
As a contractor, I always have an abundance of building materials lying around. Even though I cannot throw up a fall out shelter with 12" concrete walls I put 12" of drywall, tile, hardie board, etc together pretty quick. What are your thoughts?
Side note- I have been a long time subscriber and your videos got me into prepping 10-12 years ago. I always love your content and I cannot thank you enough for your efforts on all fronts.

Thanks Dave, really appreciate you spending your time with us all to ease our minds and assist us all, God Bless us all....

    • @craigsimmonds6201
      @craigsimmonds6201 2 года назад

@@dudewhathappenedtomycountr9099 Hi there! i'll be honest about this, if you survive the initial strike,(which you have approx" 10 minutes or less to find cover, you must be indoors before the fallout, once you are in doors, safe place, you will need to stay indoors for a minimum of 1-2 weeks until there is no more fallout falling, you will still need to protect yourself with mask, suitable clothing etc, if you do wonder out after that 1-2 weeks, but this all depends on the detonation, what kind of bomb used, and how many, also how close or far you are from the mediate blast area.
I have written a simple SHTF guide which gives real advise on many issues surrounding SHTF, foods, methods and medical and also includes some useful information on NBC,
My guide is designed for the average person who live on budgets, so giving practical guidance and not breaking the bank! i would love to share this, it's not completely finished, but there's enough advice in there to get you going and help.
With Dave's permission of course, it will help in many ways, So i'll need to check with Dave.
if you have any other concerns, i'll do my best to reassure and keep you ahead of the game.

I just went & bought stuff to make a faraday cage & plastic/ductape to cover my windows "just in case". Im going to go to home depot soon to see what they have available. I feel like people are distracted at the moment & have not made the runs on the stores yet. I would rather be 6 months too early then 5 minutes too late!

The military surplus NCBI masks with 40mm canister connections are pretty good.
    About $80.

SP1 Do you think our cars will even work? Do you think it will depend on how close or far away we are to the blast?

Nuclear is not EMP. A car is a coffin near a blast cuz metal.

I would think a rain poncho would be another good alternative to part with the mask and goggles

Thank goodness I used to be an automotive painter, and am currently working on a restoration vehicle myself. I already have the 3M respirators with filters for dust and fume particles. 3M goggles for said applications as well. Multiple Tyvek suits (some of the suits have a hoodie that can be tightened up to help seal as well). Always have Nitrile disposible 7mm gloves as well (thick). The key with the Tyvek suit is to tape everything together around the gloves and shoes/boots you are wearing. Just shake off what dust is on you best you can before entering your de-contamination area. Be very careful to take everything off backwards as best you can and have a Lg garbage can ready with a contractor bag in it to put the used PPE in, seal it up asap, then throw it out side. Then if you can take a cold shower, rinse first. Cold water is better than a hot one as your pores don't open up as much like when taking a hot shower. You may look like Marty from Back To The Future, but it saves you! LOL

@President Joe Shmoe Yes I'm on a well and can power it when the lights go out. I had it wired that way right after we moved in. You can also have a gravity shower in the de-contamination area like the ones used for camping. That's just another plus not being in a highly dependant area full of idiots!

@President Joe Shmoe Perhaps, or Perhaps not. Odds of water main breaks would be high if the area is hit.

@President Joe Shmoe only for the first 48/72 hours or forever until the water is repaired? What would you use for water then?

I'm next to Patrick AFB, on the east coast central Florida. A barrier island. Saw a B52 stratofortress take off last week. Today there's a lot of Uh 60s, little birds flying.. I'm totally screwed.

I have the MIRA CBRN mask and filters. I also have N95 masks as well. I do plan on getting a rain suit and swimming googles though to keep radiation dust off me in the event I find myself outside after a nuclear bomb goes down and fallout is falling down around me. Thanks for the video, southernprepper1.

What do you suggest for kids? I found some full body rain suits on Amazon but they will grow out of them so quickly.
