I have got the 2022 Apple TV myself. The performance is neat, but the previous generations weren’t slow either. Heck, I used an Apple TV 4th generation, with a measly A8 chip inside before and while this 7th generation’s A15 chip is faster, it’s nowhere near as noticeable, as I would have thought before. Take this as a testimonial to how fast Apple TVs in general actually are. That being said, the last generation’s A12 chip was dead in the water, being slower than the A10X chip in the 1st generation Apple TV 4K and it certainly didn’t need cooling anymore. The A10X was the reason it existed in the first place, as it didn’t only sport more graphics cores, but also a higher clock. What I am missing at this point, is hardware based decoding support for the AV1 codec. That codec will be the future in video streaming, with up to 30% more efficient usage of the bandwidth. Pretty much every big company agrees to make this change at some point. This will be mandatory not too many years into the future, with any chips not having that being forced to work their butts off, IF they have the power to actually do so. It’s odd that Apple didn’t already bring such a thing to their users. But oh well…
Good analysis there Michael The point is Apple TV 4K is quite faster than other streaming devices... But then again it's also very expensive and not many folks are willing to pay that much for a streaming box But in case someone needs a premium device then this thing is worth buying On the android front we have Nvidia Shield which is also fairly robust
You certainly are right on that. But then again, Apple TV has a history of being faster than other streaming solutions at the time. And that’s what I was going for.
this device is so fucking fassst even in 4k, never seen this speed before on tv box
Yeah it's fast for sure
