Guys the very definition of progressive rock is mixing various musical styles together (rock, folk, classical etc) and Supertramp are totally a prog rock band 🥰🥰🥰
I think so as well. It could be that for some of their songs they bring a pop element as well. (From Dreamer to Logical Song) . And for some, even though you also use all these other styles and have amazing transitions, you are banned from the Prog Rock family if you dare to introduce Pop, ie..catchy toe tapping sounds, into your music. Which I think is totally biased and whack
Hide In Your Shell is my favorite too, I even learned it on piano a long time ago. Love the therimin being used in that track. It adds to the emotional vibe. In fact all the tracks are fantastic. Superb album. btw love the use of a clarinet in a few songs which you can't hear a lot in pop/rock.
Great choice! Crime of the Century is one of the greatest albums ever, of any genre (but yes, it definitely is progressive rock). Every song is fantastic, the album is just perfect in every way, from the songwriting, arrangements, musicianship, performance to the production and recording, absolutely magnificent. Been one of my favorite albums since it came out, nearly 50 years ago.
Rudy: my favourite Supertramp song. It's original, catchy, riveting, multi-layered and fun. And yes, it's Prog 🙂. The whole song is a big crescendo that ends in poor Rudy walking out of the movie theatre, back to his sad reality. Who hasn't known a “Rudy” in his or her life... Good choice, Nathan and Jana, and I'm glad you enjoyed the full album too: it's a classic. Now I can't wait to see you two react to “Breakfast in America”. If there's an album that sits on the Prog/Non-Prog fence, that's the one. Cheerio! 🐝
Nice. I can't think of one bad song on this album. I would definitely put Supertramp in the prog category, based on the fact that they incorporate several phrases in one song, and 'play around' that phrase for a bit, then progress to another phrase, play around that, and so on... Their other early albums, like Crisis What Crisis, Even In The Quietest Moments, have plenty more journeys through their musical ponderings..
Happy Easter, Nathan and Jana. A great choice. Love Supertramp and I have had the pleasure of seeing them live in concert twice (way back in time, in the 1970s). So thanks 🎉
They were supported by Chris De Burg on both tours. A great stage show. I am blessed enough to have an audiophile copy of Crime... sound so much better. Thanks for all the hard work you put into your broadcasts. Well, we have a public holiday in England today, so I'll take some time to rest and, of course, listen to some prog.
Excellent stuff Jana and Nathan ! One of the best sounding albums on vinyl , of this period of Prog. Used this many times auditioning hi-fi equipment over the years. ' School ' is amazing. Many thanks. 😍
49 years later, this album still sounds fresh and appealing, the songwriting, musicianship, and production is stellar. And thanks for doing " Rudy ", my favorite Supertramp song. The lyrics really hit home, Rudy represents all of us. Who hasn't felt they were " on a train to nowhere " and needing " more time ". And like most of us, Rudy knows what to do " take control ", but, like most of us, instead procrastinates( the coming out of the movie reference at the end). Yes, Crime Of The Century is a prog album, the mixing of music styles is the essence of prog. Also, the live version from " Paris " is even better, there's a video version showing the concert footage here on RUclips( a speeded up version of a train going down the tracks the main feature, a fantastic visual aid to the lyrics)
Good morning guys! Happy Easter! Crime is a complete masterpiece. I love this album! I play it in its entirety every time I listen to it. Great video! Now go find those hidden Easter eggs🥚🥚🥚🐰🐰🐰😎
You both like the cohesion of this album and Nathan sounds like he appreciates a concept album, so when will you tackle Genesis 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway'? I see 'The Cage' has be reviewed.

They are criminally underrated and I love you too

It does sound amazing on vinyl- I was impressed!

Rudy is definitely prog. The dynamic transitions to various moods sound prog, but then they get some grooves going. Nice hooks.
i always like to say "back on his bullshit" instead of back on his train for the last line 😂
Supertramp has the beginnings of neo-prog for me.
Oh guys Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd is a blast! 😊
Looking forward to it!
Strangely enough a lot of fans consider COTC a concept album but Rick & Roger don't 🤔
The band has said so publicly numerous times, although there are rumors that Rick wrote " Bloody Well Right " in response to Roger's " School "
@@michaelbaucom4019 There's definitely a thematic link between the two songs and that explains why
Supertramp are great. I understand CTTE has tried to get Roger to appear a few times
