Also moonbyul is known for her unconventional dancing and personality, members even call her handsome lol, she's a definite chick magnet with her charisma on stage.
Onnesha Rahman I could see her energy wasn’t as strong compared to the second video. But I felt that expanding on it would be unfair because she was most likely super tired and her shoes were 3x heavier. I was still able to understand the direction and the choreography of her performance!
When you said that it was crazy seeing a kpop female idol move like this, more masculine, i had flashbacks to when Moonbyul said that she prefered being called handsome rather than beautiful because it made her feel unique
As a hip-hop dancer myself I don't like it when anything with a little swag, charisma and pop and lock element are called "masculine".I think this is much more seen in kpop where almost all girls have to be cute and girly all the time and it becomes actually boring to be honest. One of my favorite kopo dancers is Taemin and he always mixes both sides and her female backup dancers are just pure talent.BTW moonbyul got a new fan here :)
I definitely agree with your opinion Sarv. I want to make it clear that I define the culture surrounding this style of movement as "masculine", not the essence of the movement itself. Movement, within Urban dance at least, can never be restricted by gender. Taemin is a perfect example to breaking that dance culture barrier in k-pop! In my own opinion, I don't believe that gg kpop choreography is boring. I understand what you mean, but maybe "boring" isn't the right term you're looking for? I do believe boy group choreography is more aimed to be flashy in comparison to the more alluring girl group choreography. At the end of the day, we need to remind ourselves that dance is a purely subjective art form. Flashy doesn't always mean "better". I know some dancers that prefer the GG choreography over BG choreography, purely based off how it makes them feel. I've taken class and learned flashy choreography and I didn't enjoy it/didn't learn anything. I can also recall taking class with more groovy feminine choreography where I had the time of my life and learned so much about dance.
@@ElliottNewVillage I agree . It all boils down to our taste and how it make us feel. I personally love to see hard steps which demand great body control and musicality and often physical strength and I find it super theatrical. BTW I don't find all GG choreo boring. A good example is Itzy. Their icy and wanna be choreo is super clean and intricate and sharp and I watched them an unhealthy amount of time :D
@@Sarv-k I mean, Itzy yeah. They're choreos have some normal dance moves such as popping movements not like almost 97% of majority of gg dances that consist of self touching and hip shaking, let's be honest.
Moon is known for a more masculine choreo. She rather dance like this. The only time you see her do feminine dancing is within her group. She states she'll do any dance except anything with hip movement. But with her solo's she takes a different approach. Moon is one of those rare females that dance unique. You don't see females in the kpop industry take the approach of dancing like Moon
I'm so happy that Moonbyul is doing this concept because it honestly works because she and mamamoo is already well known. When girl groups with this concept debuted back then it was trashed and immediately flopped(remember The Ark? Or the female BTS as people called them back then) I hope more girl groups choreos start to be like this
I don't know if anyone's mentioned it, but the dude who's filming the performance video is actually Kasper, the choreographer for this piece, which is why you can tell he knows this choreo SO WELL by just looking at how he follows their movement with the camera. I think it definitely added A LOT to have him film this. I do think the shoes made a huge difference and also, I believe she filmed the dance practice video right by the end of promotions, so she was definitely very tired too.
byul's always been more comfortable with what is considered more 'masculine' dancing (for kpop definitions especially), as well as many other aspects (such as her typically tomboyish or masculine clothing preference) and this type of performance is something she's wanted to do for a while, just been unable to with mamamoo, since they're so vocally focused as a group (wheein of mamamoo is also an amazing dancer, but in a quite different way. she also doesn't get to show off so much with the group, but when she and byul do stuff together or perform like this for solo work... no words to describe how much i love it) in an interview she did, byul explained that she doesn't like terms like 'masculine dance' or 'feminine songs', saying music has no gender and should have no gender (gender neutrality has been a big thing for her almost since the beginning. each member is big on both self-empowerment and female empowerment with somewhat different individual focuses. this is byul's) so she wanted to do something more associated with boy groups. partially because it's the style she herself prefers, partially just to show that yes girls can dance this way too. she actually worked with choreographer kasper (known for doing choreo for the boy group exo) for this and he said he wasn't so certain at first but had nothing but the highest praise for byul and all her backup dancers, both male and female afterwards probably her biggest idols growing up, and some of the biggest influences on her, were the group tvxq. she brings them up pretty frequently, constantly covers their songs/dances in concerts or little videos for fun also, you did pretty well with her name. a lot better than most first-timers for trying. they frequently wind up just calling her 'moonstar' since byul is korean for star, and she calls herself that from time to time. you can hear it in the song, actually, though she bounces between 'moonstar' and 'monster' in it, depending on the persona she's talking about throughout the song

Moonbyul is a big example for kpop and is a great relief for people who are hurt by gender, that is why I love her so much. As Moonbyul there's an androgynous group that I would like to recommend you, is called Fanxyred, they are a group of 4 chinese androgynous girls, that "they look like boys" and they have coreos and everything they give to boygroups, they debuted in kpop in August 2019 but still don't have a comeback💔💔 but they are unique currently for this reason, and they have few fans You can see the dances of T.O.P and Holla at the same time, it's their debut uwu and almost the only songs we have... 😭 hopefully they have more music soon, but they may take you by surprise for being the only one group made by androgynous members. Kind of late, but I want to suggest 3ye since I see moves from them that I don't usually see with other girl groups (especially in their last two releases). I would love to know your take on it
Surprised you haven't done a reaction to NCT U's 7th Sense Performance video, which was choreographed by Shit Kingz. Supposedly known to be one of the hardest choreographies in KPOP history. Should do a video on it.
React to Wheein's dance videos too! She's also a member of Mamamoo and her dance videos are pretty fucking dope and very different from what usual female kpop artists do
I recommend you to react to a girlgroup made by 4 androgynous girls called Fanxyred, they do break gender norms too, you can react to de dance of Holla❤
Continuing with this theme, I would suggest reacting to the two recent dance performance videos Wheein (of Mamamoo) just dropped... definitely NOT of the cutesy girl-group vibe! 😄 seriously, in one her male backup dancer is wearing much tighter clothing than she is, which is pretty unusual for female entertainers in general obviously and somehow weirdly satisfying... 😂 So proud of Moonbyul and Wheein for doing exactly what and how they want! Mamamoo in general is more inclusive I feel... I've seen practices where they have male backup dancers perform in heels to more 'feminine' choreo AND on more than one occasion, I've spotted a 'thicker' female backup dancer performing with them on some very important stages... to me diversity is the spice of life and I appreciate them as a group all the more for it.
Tq for react to moonbyul and can u react to Special Wheein performance video Kiana Lede - Title ruclips.net/video/I7TMLCnNQqw/видео.html & Special Wheein performance video Be Like Me - Lil Pump ruclips.net/video/VevlSFx8jsE/видео.html pleaseeeee both of the performance is sexy and hip hop . She's also member of MAMAMOO. Wheein and Moonbyul are good in dancing but in different style 😊 I hope you can check it out a soon as posssible 😉🙂🙂🙂🙂
It's a pity because it didn't has a proper dance practice video and I'm kind of sure that you have already watched it but if you like this kind of "I don't follow gender rules dance", you should watch Hoshi's solo "Touch". As Taemin, he mixed femenine and masculine moves and it's different from normal SVT choreographies. Kinda like Taemin, that I've seen being mentioned on other comments.
If you liked this type of dances I challenge you to react to Wheein's Dance covers on Mamamoo's Official RUclips channel. In the same channel as Moonbyul's. I promise you like be really satisfied and will definitely stan Mamamoo. Ps. I subscribed hehe
For some reason just saw this reaction and as always, loved it! Elliott you have to check out 3YE's new song YESSIR! Very powerful girl group choreo and song, and they have a choreography version that shows how amazing they (and their backup dancers) are! m.ruclips.net/video/T6D2RToIock/видео.html
Some of the best choreo I've ever seen is Honey by LAY... he is, simply, a master at what he does... the isolations, the poppin', the little finishes to his movements... it's perfection. I love the official mv, but the dance practice is where it's at... I hope you get around to it someday!
Another unconventional dancer is AleXa, who just debuted last year. In fact, she did a dance cover of Eclipse that simultaneously respected the original choreo and added AleXa's own unique spin. Oh, and actually featured Moonbyul herself. AleXa has three songs out, "Bomb", "Do or Die", and "Kitty Run". The first two form a single story arc and should be watched in order. AleXa also had a predebut cameo role in one of Mamamoo's MV's, "Gogobebe", as a nerdy study group leader (striped shirt and glasses).
There really isn't, movements themselves aren't feminine or masculine but I think what he means is that certain moves or type of choreos are more associated with male and some more with female dancers. If you look at kpop boygroup dances they're often focused on fast and precise dancing with strong hits whereas girlgroup choreos tend to be more delicate and flowy. That's where the stigmata comes from and that's why it's so great to see people like Moonbyul and Taemin break out of those boundaries
Please react to wheein's dance covers too (they are from same group called Mamamoo) Be Like Me by Lil Pump: ruclips.net/video/VevlSFx8jsE/видео.html Title by Kiana Lede: ruclips.net/video/I7TMLCnNQqw/видео.html Lo Lo by Destiny Rogers: ruclips.net/video/-RxAP9H5fas/видео.html
Please react to wheein's dance cover ruclips.net/video/-RxAP9H5fas/видео.html She's in the same group as moonbyul and both of them are great in dancing. They're in charge for performance in their group. I hope you react more to them in the future because it's that good😍

+ it looks she's not giving too much effort on the dance practice so that's a pity

PLEASE DO REACT TO THE BOYZ PERFORMANCE IN ROAD TO KINGDOM 1ST AND 2ND
Very powerful girl group choreo and song, and they have a choreography version that shows how amazing they (and their backup dancers) are!

aaahhh i'm so happy you reacted to this!! i think you'd enjoy mamamoo decalcomanie dance ver!! this one: ruclips.net/video/o0I8YjeWfQU/видео.html

AleXa also had a predebut cameo role in one of Mamamoo's MV's, "Gogobebe", as a nerdy study group leader (striped shirt and glasses).
im gonna be honest. I never knew there was even a "masculine" type of choreography. its just dance.?
There really isn't, movements themselves aren't feminine or masculine but I think what he means is that certain moves or type of choreos are more associated with male and some more with female dancers. If you look at kpop boygroup dances they're often focused on fast and precise dancing with strong hits whereas girlgroup choreos tend to be more delicate and flowy. That's where the stigmata comes from and that's why it's so great to see people like Moonbyul and Taemin break out of those boundaries
Of course absolutely NOTHING is for a sex, gender is what ruins everyone with this shit!!! that's why Byulyi is very important and cool
Please react to wheein's dance covers too (they are from same group called Mamamoo)

She's in the same group as moonbyul and both of them are great in dancing. They're in charge for performance in their group. I hope you react more to them in the future because it's that good😍
I'm 100% sure she's wearing platforms when beside the male dancers because she's tiny 😂
Just a fact
Moonbyul hates hip movements soooo.......
Please react to Wheein's dance covers too. She's the lead dancer of Mamamoo, the group Moonbyul is also in it and is its main dancer
