FILM DESCRIPTION:
After Neanderthal hunter Zed (Jack Black) is exiled for eating forbidden fruit, he and his sardonic buddy Oh (Michael Cera) leave their village and begin an epic journey through history. The pals encounter biblical characters such as Cain (David Cross) and Abel, Abraham (Hank Azaria), and others, and wind up in Sodom. Along the way, Zed debunks commonly held beliefs and replaces them with his own delusions of grandeur.

What is the meaning of Abraham’s sacrifice of Isaac after waiting so long for him to be born? Here’s the answer:
1. Abraham by conqueror rights claimed the borders of Israel. The Hittites said he was a great prince among them.
2. The long wait for Isaac to be born indicated the long wait for Jesus to come.
3. God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac to prove his faith, but also to display an acted out event that would occur in future.
4. Abraham was the actor representing God. Isaac was the actor representing Jesus. God said now I know you would sacrifice your son, your only son, just as God would sacrifice his only son, Jesus. Moses wrote this about 1600 years before it happened.
5. When Isaac got up off the altar alive, it pictured the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
6. This play was acted out 3 days away on top of Mt Moriah. Just as Jesus would be resurrected 3 days after his death on Mt Moriah, the place where Jerusalem was built.
7. God told Abimelech that Abraham was a prophet. He foretold the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, Genesis 20:7.
The ram caught in the thicket was a young male and wore the crown of thorns, the typology of the Messiah, all the animal sacrifices from that point represented, until the Son of God could come.

Non-stamp collector did a great animated skit where the whole point of this test was to find out if Abe was a psycho who would murder his own child if voices in his head told him to. This was so that any eternal religion founded by him would be a good one.
God got excited by Abe’s blind obedience and decided he had passed the test and gave him power and all the descendants.

For those lacking the context of Biblical literacy; this story is to demonstrate that there are actually certain things that God is NOT allowed to ask of you. IMO one of the most powerful stories in the Bible.

The whole point of that story is that to be a good parent, we must be willing to sacrifice the things that mean the most to us, and that even includes sacrificing our children to the world when the time comes; we can't protect them forever, but we can help them become self-sufficient.
A parent who is reluctant, but willing to sacrifice their child to the world, to let them leave the nest and go forth to discover their place in life, that is pleasing to God, God - as in the ideal, the path that is righteous. It's an act that creates potential for further good things to happen, though there is the risk of bad things happening, sheltering your children from reality is actually a fate worse than what can befall them out in the world. We all die, and there is no guarantee of safety. It is best to allow our children to take risks, because without risk, there is no reward, and life lived without reward isn't worth living.
The story also acts as a warning about taking things literally. Ironic, because that's exactly what Hollywood did with that skit. They completely missed the deep life lesson this Biblical story teaches us.
I shouldn't be surprised that simple minds come to simple conclusions. It seems the Bible is a bit too high I.Q. for Hollywood types. Not that I'm perfect or anything. I just don't take things at face value, then puff out my chest like I have everything figured out. If I had everything figured out, I wouldn't be leaving comments on RUclips, lol. I'd be doing something better with my life.
That whole story shows how barbaric primitive humans were and some continue to be. If you can find a moral lesson in this story, you are truly deluded. This kind of b.s. deserves nothing more than ridicule.

That’s a BS take. In the Old Testament people were horribly punished for not following divine instructions to the letter, so I don’t buy that the lesson is against being overly literal. And this scene played out earlier under jeptha, except the daughter was sacrificed as a burnt offering. The amount of infant and child killing at the boss’s hand and on his orders in the Old Testament is stomach turning.

this is one of the many controversies in the Bible. God would never command to kill someone, especially for no good reason, he also doesn't need to test anything as he already knows everything and everything that will be. This scene also shows that there's no free will in Chrstianity as Abraham is forced against his will to kill his son.
That’s kind of a crap take. God orders a STAGGERING amount of killing in the Bible. And testing people is a pretty regular occurrence in the Old Testament.
That story exists to convey for ancient people that the Abrahamic God demands no human sacrifices. It is not controversial, just misunderstood. Try to see it from the perspective of the ancient world when there were still cults doing human sacrifices.
