Thanks for noticing this part! If you will want to explore more of the etymology, then you certainly can find more words related with "midden" in Germanic and Scandinavian languages. Some of the references seem to be about "mud" or "muck" in relation with "heaps" or "mounds", often with an implication about "shells".
Shells were used in concrete here in SE Texas 100+ years ago being close to the Gulf of Mexico...native shell middens are totally different!

@@randallalan4221 absokutely. Shell middens don't have anything to do with concrete whatsoever lol 😆 they served many many many different purposes for many many thousands of years but concrete wasn't one of em. .taking ceramic good and pottery etc took place at *some midden sites but that's as close to concrete as a shell midden gets. People withiut experience in prehistoric sites like middens simply cannot and do not ever understand or grasp the full depth and reality of ancient sites like middens or camps or villages etc. 99% in modern day America don't give a shit and it's pitiful. One day, the entirety of the human population will return to using the same materials and same tools and hunting for their food once again. Nuclear war will end us all and whoever is left will have to learn to survive without modern anything once again.
Did you ever wonder about "middens" in archaeology? Here is a short video to clarify within about 7 minutes!
I appreciate the etymological history of the word. Nicely done.

Exactly what I wanted to know about.
I am happy to know that the video was useful. Thank you so much for watching!
im thinking something to do with a weak / early form of concrete
What do you mean an early form of concrete? What relevance does a shell midden have to concrete?
