Released in 1985, it appeared in the film Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome starring Tina Turner alongside Mel Gibson.

I was born a year after the movie came out. I remember watching "Beyond Thunderdome" w/my mom and wondering what the heck was going on. I do remember the fight with MasterBlaster and being really sad when they take his mask off.
Bit young for that, born late Dec '81. I do recall having watched it some time in the intervening years on TV.
In my opinion...i grew up in the 2 best decades in human history. Wasn't always painless or sorrow less...but it was full of dynamic people...with pure talent.

This song has always had a deeper meaning to me then some movie soundtrack. As a child when ever I heard it playing it made me feel like she was speaking to and about me.That I didn't need another JFK, Malcolm X, Martin L King or other leader to look. I didn't need someone screaming in my ear to go in a certain direction that benefited them but instead tell the world to leave us alone and get the Hell out of our way and let us live. It felt like she was saying she had faith in us as a generation to get it right on our own. Generation X forever.

Like one comment said, this song is truly a Timeless masterpiece. I was a teenager when the song first came out and didn't care for it much. But now I'm much older, and this song speaks volumes about all of our personal experiences in this world. The irony is, through her personal experiences she was a hero for us all❤
