I swear, I don't care what happened in my day or how depressed I am at the moment, Roger Ebert's genuine emotional laugh can bring a smile to my face and lighten my spirits. Once he said that he has an "infectious laugh". Boy is it ever. His laugh is so genuine and heartfelt it just warms me up.
For real. Also in the original aired review I remember Siskel thumbing down the film, where as Ebert praised it. Personally one of my favorite films and you really shouldn’t watch it the first time knowing the ending. Not as crazy as say Sixth Sense was I suppose but the ending to Jacob’s Ladder is practically the whole point of the movie.
This & Groundhog Day was my favorite All time Bill Murray films. Although Gene was right little did we know all of the turmoil between Dreyfuss & Murray. Mainly Dreyfuss with his ego. How they portrayed it on the screen was nothing more than a comedy masterpiece.
Devon, Give “The man who knew too much” with Bill Murray, I rented this and man fell in love with it, besides “Ghostbusters” my favorite Murray performance
I think What About Bob? is just about a perfect movie. It is so consistently funny. The moments that are intended to be funny are always actually funny. Plus, I think the movie is perfectly cast. Richard Dreyfus is the comic equal of Bill Murray. A perfect pairing.
Ohhhh I remember this review of Soapdish. I went to go see it on their recommendation and I loved it. My family loved it too. Gene nails What About Bob. Dreyfuss was just so good Murray got on MY nerves.
"Gene nails What About Bob. Dreyfuss was just so good Murray got on MY nerves." You got it backwards. Gene criticized Dreyfuss's performance as being too over the top and annoying.
What's crazy about these shows is you see movies reviewed that never seem to be shown anymore. It's the same movies over and over on TV. How many times can you show LotR for God's sake.
Totally agree with Siskel. What About Bob is gross. You can sense on screen the behind the scenes bullying that Murray did to Dreyfuss (anti-Semitic comments etc.).
Siskel always baffled me..focuses on Only the Lonely's Maureen O'Hara as racist instead of an old Irish woman set in her ways. Even back then there were people like him stirring the pot instead of allowing people to make light of themselves. Sticks and stones Gene! But oh well, I always enjoyed these two talking about movies but never based what I watched on their recommendations!
both of them were pretty woke for the time, i wonder sometimes how they would react to the very woke films coming out the last few years. to see how you can get too much of what you re asking for.
Exactly. Woke people are insane and they don't allow any dissenting opinions. For example, Roger stated that Not Without My Daughter was racist. A woke person would have said the film should be burned. Roger said the film should be viewed in order promote a discussion.

Thank you for posting all of these wonderful S&E shows. I've watched almost all of them by now and they really are such treasures!
LOL at Gene so casually giving away the ending to Jacob's Ladder.

Wow. Two thumbs up for soapdish. Didnt see that comin...
18:44 _Jacob's Ladder_ which I discovered on cable, was excellent.
Siskel missed the boat with "What about Bob?".

Richard Dreyfuss gave a great performance.

It's much funnier now because OCD and therapy is more mainstream now.
Barton Fink certified classic

So do I 😢.
I loved Soapdish!!
We are CLIMBING Jacob’s Ladder!

Ah, the good old days when we actually cared about what Madonna was up to.
I enjoy Soapdish 👍🌟🌟🌟🌟
I like Soapdish, too.

Great👍
What About Bob? A rare occasion when Ebert is right and Siskel is wrong.

Gene Siskel’s 👎🏻 for What About Bob? was yet again another colossal blunder. It is literally one of my favorite comedies.
I thought the movie was kind of annoying...
@@iluvmylovebirdandmybudgiet7729 I could see how people might think so; I’ve always been a big Bill Murray fan.
I really like Bill Murray just not that film..and I don`t think it was a blunder.Siskel`s usually fair with comedies...Soapdish was a lot funnier...
@@iluvmylovebirdandmybudgiet7729 I like Bill Murray too but What About Bob is annoying. I sympathize with Dreyfuss’s character.
What About Bob was great and very funny. Sometimes I find Bill Murray annoying, in this movie it was a perfect casting 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The screen is so small.
Gene pegged Hudson Hawk perfectly... it was just too much.
I'm lost I never heard of any of these movies
Problem with hudson hawk the actors are mugging.
Hudson Hawk is a great movie
Fun :)
I love Soapdish it is so funny! Wasn't a fan of the other movies and sadly as much as I love John Candy I just didn't like him in Only the Lonely.
`Only the Lonely` was kind of dreary..
@@iluvmylovebirdandmybudgiet7729 yes it was and I just couldn't get into that movie.
i like hudson hawk ... sue me
The least believable part of Only the Lonely is Ally Sheedy playing Sicilian 😂
