Just got this to the table this weekend. I was worried about maybe too much going on for my wife but we both loved it. I played solo this morning and it was such an easy solo mode to run. I can’t wait to get the expansions to the table as well.
So it takes us about 20 to 30 minutes to score our 3 person games. We read the descriptions of each card and share the artwork. We find it relaxing and enjoyable. Our first play through my wife didn't pick cards for values. She picked them if she actually would go do that activity. She also completely won that gane in amazing vacation and points!! We appreciate your recommendations for the game.
I just played this last weekend (only 2P, I enjoyed it but I bet the drafting would be even better with more players). I liked how the mechanism and theme work together, where the entire game actually is planning, and then the last part is where you "run the program" and see how well the planning worked out.
That's true, the theme works well in how the game is structured. I also like the options the game gives you to just go for a walk, and you only discover what you find on the walk during the "run the program" phase.
Love the theming of the bonus in the Highlight of the Day as an additional activity rather than it just being what happens when that activity is the highlight. It's a small thing, but it helps make the story the game tells a little more vibrant. "I did several different tourist-y things that day, and they were all fun, but this one activity had something special about it that made it the highlight."
Our game hit the table this week and we absolutely loved it. The unique drafting method as well as the amazing art and flavor text is fantastic! We can’t wait to play it again! - Jason
For me the most genius part is the walk mechanic. It just feels so thematic. Don't know what to do? Just block off a little time to wander around. When you turn over the card you might something amazing you never would have planned for, or you walk on by continue your relaxing stroll. Perfect marriage of mechanics and theme. Don't have a good card to draft/Always need to work in a time to explore
I got it in last weekend and did an unboxing video. I can't wait to get it to the table. Hopefully it doesn't sit too long. This mechanism is so interesting.
Finally got this to the table yesterday and loved it. Better yet my wife also enjoyed playing it so it’s another game that we will definitely play together. Played solo this morning and it’s such an easy solo mode to run.
Backed this game on KS as well and really enjoy it. The cards do a wonderful job of combining scoring/iconography as well as establishing the theme of the game. (And the production on the KS game and extras is top notch.) I would love to visit Japan one day. Are you lining up your trip with a visit to the Tokyo Game Market?
I agree, the iconology (and thematic text) are great! Our trip won't be during the Tokyo Game Market, but I'm hoping to say hi to our Japanese partners while we're there (Arclight).
@@jameystegmaier Hope you have a great trip. Hopefully you’ll at least get some time to visit a game shop or two and pick up some of their excellent trick takers and other games.
I have to say my favourite mechanism so far is the unboxing of my KS edition 😊 I had a very broad smile at the package, including th non-gameplay extras. Arrived only 3 hours ago - about to play it...
Yeah for me the best mechanism is having the scoring be a key part of the fun of the game, not just something that happens to see who won. We sometimes spend as long scoring as we do playing which is purely voluntary but quite unique in games I have played. Any other games do that this well? Love the channel!
That's an interesting question about games that integrate end-game scoring into something that feels like the story of the game itself. We actually tried something like this with the original Between Two Cities in a more abstract way, with players advancing up a score track for each category--it felt like a race because of the tactile element.
If you like to tell a story while you score, I would highly recommend Funfair! It definitely fits that idea and for myself and my husband a huge part of the fun of the game.
Thanks, Jamey. I'm a big fan of this segment, I'm happy to be part of it. I hope you enjoy your next trip to Japan and your future plays!

I also find myself picking for the activity over the value. :)

Just received this game and looking forward to playing it. It looks beautiful.

We are learning this game tonight! We also love traveling to Japan and wonder if our game play will be biased. 🤪
We cant stop playing this game 😍
Love listening to your reviews!

Great video!!!
You think this gane play well at two players?
I do!
where does this fall in your top Japan themed board games?
Near the top!
How heavy is this game?
I would say it's a medium-weight game. The first game will feel heavier than it actually is, as there are a lot of icons to decipher.
