So true about the battery grip or anything that makes your camera look huge and super professional. This equates to them thinking you are huge and super professional as well and obviously know perfectly what you're doing.
The size pf your gear decides the size of your paycheck ;) or something
Great tips, much better than other "Use a flash!" (no doy) "tips and tricks" videos. You really put the focus on setting yourself up for getting the right shots, fitting in, having fun, being likeable. Great job! Although, I have to say, I disagree about using the viewfinder and bouncing the flash. Bouncing flash can be very effective, although it isn't meant for nightclub photography. It's better used in places with white walls and ceilings. The viewfinder shouldn't really slow you down either, and it makes a huge difference with framing your shots. As you said, don't leave things (such as framing) to be fixed in post. Frame it correctly from the start.
Thanks! Hate videos like that. To elaborate on your "question". The viewfinder puts your face behind the camera, which makes it harder to communicate with the subjects. It takes a few seconds going back and fourth adjusting flash and settings. The lcd screen uses a second to active when you want to use it, and the viewfinder activates when its not supposed to. So its just a lot of extra variables i dont need. I turn the viewfinder of and have learnt to frame the shot with my live lcd. - As you said yourself. Bouncing the flash is not for the nightclub scene, even though a lot of people recommend it. So for Nightclubs its not ideal, and therefore useless for beginners anyways. :) Hope that clarified my reasoning.
That’s for this video I have a night club shoot in about 3 hours and this was the first video that popped up. Subscriber for sure 💯🎯
Finally someone who actually puts the settings!!!! Thank you!!!
Do you think that the Sony 24-70mm lens would be ok to use?
That lens is perfect for this :))
i bounce around a from Osaka and Okinawa Japan and these tips are clutch. my photos came out amazing
Love to hear that!
Thanks! Got my first nightclub shoot and will be giving these tips a go!
Good luck!
how was it? any tips?
Couldn’t agree with you more.🙌🙌 And tip no 9 is super important. Know ur gear do not let ur camera fail you ! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Hi. I am also a nightclub photographer, I am very happy to see videos about nightclub photograph, thank you. PEACE
Ey! Yeah saw there was a lack of content. Thanks.
Great tips man! Thanks for the video.
Due to mine being a crop sensor camera. The 24-70mm wouldnt be right for mine, so i ended up getting the 17-50mm thats equal to 24-70mm.. looking forward to trying it out in next few weeks
This is great advice!
I hear you Loud and clear 🙏🏾
Fantastic video! It sure helped me a lot! Keep up the good work!
I tried taking photos with the flash, and I noticed many people were squinting because their eyes were adjusted to the dark and because of that I no longer have a job. I need to know how to take photos in a nightclub without using flash.
Well i have never had this problem. Usually people wouldnt be able to react. I think you might be using adaptive flash or TTL. Which shoots two flashes per image. So the flash can adjust its power compared to the camera light. Its useful in certain situations, but i always use manual both in flash and camera. Watch a flash tutorial about the different modes. I think that may be your problem. I also shoot 5 images per subject. In medium burst mode. Then im guaranteed that the eyes stays open in at least one of the images. Also avoiding using a too powerful flash might also help. Hope this explains it. :)
Thanks for the guide really life saving. Should I send the pictures to people in the party? not my client just people in the club that want pictures where they were in
Well i usually tell them to ask the organizer. It takes some time to send to different people so i prefer to not do it. However i can tell them to follow and text me on Instagram the next day. Puts the responsibility on them and i get followers. Most organizer would not really mind i think.
@@hanssatrumok thanks a lot

Really cool tips, straight forward, love it 👍
i'm buying a sony a7 iii, i'm a dj and i'd like to take videos mainly from the public's point of view to record my music drops. which lens would you recommend?
its difficult to say honestly but a Tamron 20-40mm, a 17-28mm or the one i have 28-75mm are all great choices for wide angle lenses. A budget one might also be the Tamron 24mm lens. Impossible to say. The 28-75mm is one of the most popular and versatile lenses due to its 2.8 constant F stop. All of these lenses er good. Hope that gives you a direction.
Are you shoot directly to face , or move flash up, or other angle?
Watch my full guide and skip to flash chapter. Im explaining how i do it there :))
This would have been better if there are big texts in the video like "1.) Don't drink!" For me, I kind of understand and inculcate it better this way since I can read the basics of an outline better. But this is just me. Great video still. Subbed.
I did not think of that. Will keep that in mind! Thanks!
Great video bro
What was the last thing you said blitz? Power setting watts? Talking about the flash?
I talk more about this in my full guide (pinned in the comments). I have timecodes you can use to navigate. Its about what "power" output the flash is set to. This is usually something you will have to experiment with yourself anyways :)
Great tips I encountered these tips by my own I wish I would have watched this video before 😅
Ahahah yes that was why i made it! Wish someone had told me too.
How do you manage autofocus in the far night clubs? And how do you manage when there is a smoke machine which gives a washed out feel when using a flash?
I use a NikonZ6ii and SB 700. Can you recommend any settings, mainly to fix the focusing.
In the far ones? Its easier to get the right focus when something is far away in my opinion. I use Continuous AF and a medium size af point. Try to move your flexible focus point around on the screen. You dont always have to focus in the middle. I also put it on responsive for faster focus «hunting» because people move so much around. Sometimes focus lock can be useful as well. When its really dark. When using the Flash on far away subjects and there is smoke it will ruin the image to a degree. So then i would most likely turn off the Flash. If the subjects are close by i increase the power. I like the smoke effect a lot. Your equipment is very good for this. Dont be afraid to turn up the ISO :)
@@hanssatrum Thank you for the tip! I will give this a try
Such great tips!!
whoa whoa whoa, never use the viewfinder?! not? I've actually noticed it gets amazing shots (unless they're group or purposely candid i guess for creep reasons??)
Why would you say never use view finder or bouncing flash is a myth... I do both what is the issue here?
If it works for you then it works for you. I have found however that using the viewfinder in general takes the attention away from the subjects and you are not as present in the moment - hiding behind the camera. It also does rarely affect the framing as i have, with training, learnt to frame rather quick with the lcd screen. Using the viewfinder restricts you to one angle as well. Bouncing the flash i can not recommend as its unpredictable and therefore useless in my opinion. I never made it work and i dont any "great" benefit apart from maybe softer lighting when you bounce it right. Watch my full guide where i explain in detail :))
@@hanssatrum oh well. Hard disagree on both counts…..but ok!
Do u mind sharing your rates? Idk how to price myself
I started on hourly rate through my work at a Club. As if i was working any shift. Then like 150$. Later when i felt i was getting better 200$. Started a company. Then when i could chose where to shoot 250$. In Norway taxes are like 30% and after you reach a certain income its another 25% VAT. So my prices went up to like 300$ depending on workload. Still got paid less than when i didnt have a company. However bigger Clubs can pay you more.
Jesus loves you bro! Subbed!
Amazing video
Thanks a lot!!
great video have a sub
Thanks!!
White balance?!
Its set to "flash" on my camera.
@@hanssatrum my photos always come out too warm when I use flash white balance
under 500 ISO so your photos are not noisy!!
I shoot up to 2000 iso without any issues, sometimes even 4000. All depends on your gear and light :)) Since the images are usually shown on small screens its not that relevant :)
@@hanssatrum It would usually depend on the camera and sensor size. Best is to shoot in your camera base ISO
noise is not an issue, I am at 6400 in clubs frquently and non flash shots are at 12800... under 500 is a surefire way to get horrible photos.
@@arunashamal not true at all, worlds best photographers shoot at low iso also. What’s the need introduce noise?
@@polimediaproduction8750 not the world's best nightclub photographers!
What is the point of cutting all the lights off that the club has spent million dollars installing, because you didn't want a bit of noise.
Best tip... drink with them
iso?
Usually between 2000 to 4000. Expose for the background and then adjust flash.
Crap
