For the record I love the sound on the RP5. Super loud and clear, really powerful for small speakers. Great video

I am also new to retro/console handhelds, and I finally decided for this one to be my first. However, I've yet to receive it, and have done a lot of research regarding what I should try to make my first. It's great to know that others who are not really familiar are also saying that this is a really good option, so long as you're willing to put in the effort to getting it set up. I'm honestly very excited for when it arrives.

Great video, I’m in a very similar situation, and actually a lot unfamiliar with gaming from the past. Have a psp street from my childhood that travels around with me, and I’m considering this or maybe the portal!
It's nice you were able to wait until the RP5 and EsDe both existed to jump in. Since 2020 and c*vid I have blown way too much money on everything from powkiddy, miyoo, anbernic, retroid, etc just hoping for minor improvements. Most collect dust now, but i cannot sell them. I have emotional attachments to each one. 😅 2024/2025 we finally have excellence in my opinion, and you made a great choice. Currently im settled in with the odin2 and i use Nreal glasses with it on my lunch breaks. EsDe is the best. Your review is refreshing. Its all about how it makes you feel!
My first retro handheld was the original Odin 2. I managed to get a superfan on indiegogo too.
This is surprising since I own all the original handheld all the way from Gameboy to current gen systems.
In any case, ordered Odin 2 Portal too! Can't wait to receive it.

Lucky one. I have over 20 of those. Some I actually like and have no regrets, but some.. I think I will just remove the battery and put on a display. Honestly with this you don't anything else. Maybe Miyoo Mini/Plus for convenience and portability or anbernic rg40xx H series for some amazing ports.
Funnily enough, you can install rocknix on the RP5 and play those ports on it.
Got one too but realising retro games are not that smooth as newer indies (obviously). After playing games like celeste, old games feel clunky
I think volume on the speakers is fine. My issue with them is they're a bit high on the treble end of things. With all that this device can do for the price, complaining about the not perfect speakers is a nit pick and they totally get a pass from me too.
Great handheld, the ergonomics are a compromise for the portability of this things . However audio is always the weak point of these devices. They sound like radios from the early 90s. Take an iPhone and compare.
Bezels are sooo horrible. Just don't get using them.
It's a personal preference thing. On a small device like this, it makes things way more visually pleasing.
