I absolutely love this channel having lived in notts my whole life and also Batman being my fave superhero!! Such a history nerd and realised I didn't know much about my own citys history so searched and stumbled on this absolute gem. Please continue making videos. New favourite channel :D

I always wondered if the story of Kings John's road was invented by the descendants of the Gotham Fools to justify what really happened, their lunatic ancestors really were crazy!

It's a great little place. Still have friends there and visit the Cuckoo Bush on occasion. Walking the West Leake hills above Gotham is also a favourite. The ancient barrow with Fairy tale connections is a splendid spot up there.
The fools of Gotham can't have put King John off too much. He just went further north to Clipstone to build his hunting lodge. Another great video. Well done

When I first saw it on my way to Loughborough, I just shrugged it off saying could be just a coincidence. I’m delighted to discover indeed Batman’s Gotham City is connected to Gotham, Nottingham thru Washington Irving.

I always thought the name was coincidental and "Gotham" was chosen because the city's gothic look in the earlier comics.
That's what I'd assumed as well until I learnt about the Gotham Fools

Thankyou! Yeah, it feels like on of those fun facts which should be more well known. Even around Nottinghamshire a lot of people know about the village but don't know about the weird causal link between it and Batman's city.
