- Historic use of video assist leads to Lewandowski goal
► Sub now: redirect.bunde...
The curtain-raiser of the 2017/18 Bundesliga season was the beginning of a new chapter in the league's history, courtesy of the new video assistant referee. After footage was reviewed by VAR, referee Tobias Stieler pointed to the spot, despite having not seen a foul on Robert Lewandowski in the box. The Pole picked himself and tucked away his first Bundesliga goal of the season in Bayern München's 3-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen.

For those saying it takes a long time they obviously didn't see the game since it took literally 20 seconds
Kevin Rodriguez 20 seconds to make a wrong decision.
20 seconds to make a wrong decision is a long time.
Werkrider it was correct lol
FenuxFX it was correct you ain't that smart at football are you
Kevin Rodriguez You don't have to be 'smart at football' to realise how light of a call that was. But do enlighten me. Why do you think that should be a penalty?
Lewy still doing the X
ThatsWhatHeSaid why does he do that?
Lee Travis it's his celebration
Good. Maybe this will cut down on flopping. Although the Bundesliga is usually clean in that regard. Brazil, however...
klieu90210 Or in Spain. players there dive constantly, it's ridiculous
@@liam4440 lmao when Neymar played in Barca he used to dive all the time non stop
Bring this to EPL and the Spanish leauges
Lantorn it is coming next season
Will be in La Liga this season.
They are using it right now
Look at the VAR nowadays
Now time to use this in the UCL
Tarun Chandra As well as other UEFA Europa league, super cup, and more I think.
Tarun Chandra it’s been used 😂😂😂
This aged poorly
@@DILLE1994 how
0:20 That person was more precisely the Bundesliga😂
But now they can pay the VAR
Why was ribery yelling at the ref tho, he gave the pen to them
Bundesliga VAR too, i thought only the not so important would take it first, now that serie A and Bundesliga has it too, along side the Portuguese league (where i come from) and the Eredivisie, that shows that in one more year every single football will have VAR
Where was the pen for Leverkusen then in the 1st half (Volland I think)? and why was VAR not used then? If this was a pen then that was even more one
Faithfull at least someone remembers...
I also watched the game live
Would be Bayern to get the first wouldn't it
Morgan Mackay Hey, at least Robben can't pull off his usual shenanigans now...
It was a 50 % chanche
It was 1st game of the season against Bayern who has no opponents in matter of skill in this league. Come on.
It was a foul he touched him and pulled him away
What if Lewandowski missed the penalty? 😂
did not count as goal then
that touch is weak tho...
But there was touch and it's not like it was by accident.
Stupid move by defender, thats it. Lewandowski would get that ball. It was weak but for sure slightly slow him down.
When a player is in a full speed a litle push can make you lose the balance in a tight play.
MLS should use the kind of VAR here. It takes ~3 minutes for the official to jog to the sideline, watch the play, and get back on the field. Unsurprisingly germans do it better
The ref should see the replay himself
Okay, but how would you accomplish that? I mean he can hardly carry a smartphone around with him or something.
The ref was clever
Amazing that the first VAR is a light touch for a Penalty (In other words not a penalty at all) for Bayern? A coincidence? I think not. The decision is still the referee's and the VAR refs. One referee might see it as a foul and another might not so at the end of the day, does it actually matter? More commercialisation? Yep you bet!
LPTR93 you can't grab somebody in the penalty box. Yeah it's light, but it's still not allowed.
Clearly you don't know the rules then? Touching someone on the shoulder, is not a foul. If you watch this he barely touched him and the majority of referees wouldn't have given it. The fact the referee didn't initially give a penalty says it all.
This wasn't a foul. The commentator in English at the time actually stated it was extremely harsh. It wasn't enough of a touch to be pushed over, Lewandowski knew if he stayed on his feet it wouldnt be given. And he could've done that but chose to go down instead because he felt a hand on his shoulder? Not a penalty
LPTR93 he put his hand on Lewy's arm in an attempt to impede him from reaching the ball. How is that not a foul?
He barely touched him. He didn't put his arm across, he didn't trip him. He could've done either to impede Lewandowski a lot more easily but didn't. Lewandowki even swung his arm back before he fell. He didn't even drag Lewandowski back, it was a hand on the shoulder.
Clearly another Bayern fan that can't admit when they're wrong.
LPTR93 yep, you're right. You're right and the officials are wrong. Also the pundits on FS1 who said it was definitely a penalty are wrong.
lewandowski went down too easily in my opinion
I agree
Please stop this video decision! We will soon have commercial breaks mid half i this technology gets accepted
Klas Lundgren it really won't slow down the game at all. Takes no time at all to get the decision
Klas Lundgren calm down he never even had to stop the game. He just listened to his heads up assistant and took action and made a good call. This solves so many issues with players getting away with unseen dirty plays.
Klas Lundgren video ref in Bundesliga is better than of the confederations cup
Doesn't take as long as in football or basketball. It's much more efficient.
It's more efficient in football and no, there wont be commercials in it either. That would completely change the game, this hardly adds on time.
Wow, of course the first decision made with this new technology that aims to eliminate referee bias is a very light penalty for Bayern. Things are never going to change...
It was the first game of the season...
+CaliphaGaming How does that change anything?
+Free Thinker What is 50/50?
PATHETIC Bayern will always get decisions in the bundesliga no matter what
Hoosayne debate able and how the heck to a fall over he stroked him
Jajaja grande Aranguiz!!
Grande Chile!!!
Also, this VAR deal is pathetic and slows down the game. It takes away from the emotion that makes this game so BEAUTIFUL. It makes it plastic and gives it a feeling of being manipulated.
CHlEFFIN obviously you didn't see the game cause is it took 5 seconds
Freddy give this man a cookie
CHlEFFIN you would rather. Vidal get a red for a clean tackle? Okay! Cool!
CHlEFFIN so I think wrong calls makes the game beautiful?
For Bayern he give pénalty lol for other they control offside
