Grey wagtails with the OM-1 Mk2 and 150-400mm lens. I also try the Atmos Ninga 5 to record footage.

  • I find some Grey wagtails feeding on a small weir and set about photographing and filming them. It is very important to get the exposure right with Grey wagtails. The very pale yellow plumage is easy to burn out. A soft cloudy light is best.
It is a very attractive site with nice colours in the water. Very important to get good settings for birds, where they look good.
I use the OM-1 mk2 and 150-400mm lens and also try out the Atmos Ninja 5.

Hi Mike, Great video as always. I use the Ninja V to capture in ProRes for many of my cameras. Great functionality and nice to view a bigger screen when shooting manually - which I do most of the time when filming wildlife. To turn the Ninja V off, you simply hold the power button until the screen goes off.

I've had the diopter dial move in the bag on me before too, just leaving me standing there confused about why the autofocus isn't working properly haha. Wonderful footage as always Mike!

Nice to see the "live" adjustments Mike. Few of those on some stills would be interesting.

Hi Mike, I use a Ninja V and find it excellent. I use it primarily for live acts. Yes, it is battery-hungry, so when I'm doing the live acts, I use a GOLABS leger battery. However, it is heavy to carry about, so it's okay when you're set up in a hall. Out in the field, I have the bigger battery, 7.2V 8700mah 62.6Wh. Great video, and it's nice to see the Grey wagtail.

Thanks Martin. Mine came with two batteries, little and large, but I avoid using it other than to do RUclips demos.

Great video Mike I have been interested in the Atmos Ninga 5 to record Camera settings while doing video. But it really is another bit of kit to go wrong and only usable in good conditions. So thanks for sharing your experience with the Ninga (Not as nimble as a Ninga fighter). Great shots of the Wagtails certainly one of my favourites when the Dippers don't perform.👍

I am hoping someone will suggest a more user friendly make.

I also bought a monitor for the top of the camera but like yourself cannot really see any great advantage for it except one, allows you to put the camera really low to the ground without having to get down yourself but for me it's not the getting down part it's the getting back up at 70+ years old.

The Om-1 built in screen tilts to any angle so can be seen from above. So far I can still get up quickly. Must be the 4 Weetabix and a pint of milk every day since I was a child.

I'm a new sub. Your channel is fantastic. The last camera I owned was a Canon 5DIII. I then picked up the Astronomy (visual) habit and sold all my gear. Recently, I picked up an E-M1ii. Wow, what a great camera! I've bought a 60mm Macro lens, but now that winter is coming, I'd like to take up bird photography. What lens should I consider with a £600 budget?

Thanks. There are Olympus lenses of around 100-300 and 75-300mm for that price, especially used.
