It’s like he took all those "The Rock just plays himself" memes to heart and said, "Fine, then make me as unrecognizable as possible"
you forgot to switch accounts man
Being recognizable wasn't the issue. It's just that the character was always the same.
Brother… go outside, you have too many comments on this video, it’s not even out yet
he still looks like the rock, just with a bad hair piece and pretends he is bad at speaking english. really terrible oscar bait.
@FrameRateYT Go outside yourself and stop harassing them.
To my cousin Christopher, you would have loved knowing Dwayne Johnson was starring in a film and gave a genuine, proud acting performance. I love and miss you. Thank you A24!
keep strong brother
Bruh your cousin deserved a better choice in actor and movies cause gahd dayum lol
@jabrondestoroyah I never said that was his choice learn to read
@jabrondestoroyah You came in stupid and made yourself look even worse. Congrats, bro. 👏🏾 😅
@BlockBoyGloballearn to ignore these bums man
Apparently, the makeup was done by Kazu Hiro, the same artist who transformed Gary Oldman into Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour, Charlize Theron into Megyn Kelly in Bombshell (both Oscar-winning work), and Bradley Cooper into Leonard Bernstein in Maestro. No wonder expectations are high, you can barely even recognize The Rock here. Kazu Hiro is truly at the top of his game, and the depth of his research is seriously impressive
I'm sorry but you can see from 5 miles away that it's rock. They didn't go over board with the mask
You missed mentioning his best work on David Fincher’s Mindhunter- He did the insane makeup for the actors playing Son of Sam and Charles Manson
Dang it I still need to see Bombshell
You definitely see the Rock.
@TheSharath706Man I think its a tragedy that nobody even remembers mindhunter. Its imo literally the best show netflix ever made. Still reeling from the fact that they left it with that cliffhanger.
They better play this Phil Collins song throughout the entire movie, because ole Phil is doing the heavy lifting here.
They’ll also play In the Air Tonight as Mike Tyson steps in the ring
And Elvis’ cover of Frank Sinatra’s My Way
Yesss!I have goosebumps!! The last time I heard this song in a 🎥, I was 12...in 1984. ("Against All Odds") So great! Phil is the best. 🥁 🎶 Icing on the cake with Elvis/Sinatra.
Lol😂
Nope
The Wrestler, The Iron Claw and now this. Great to see behind the curtain into the humanity of those who step into the ring.
YES!
Iron Claw is heartbreaking 😢😢😢
@Perytongamesthe real story is even worse.
Wrestling and fighting really are not that similar. A wrestler can reinvent himself with a new charachter or approach, once a fighter is washed he's done for good.
And now, The Cut is coming. It is about weight cutting.
As a lifelong fan of The Rock it always frustrated me whenever I saw him playing the exact same type of role in all of his movies. Because I knew he had the potential to do more and be more. Seeing him in this just fills me with such pride and relief that I knew he had this in him.
Finallyyyyy
It’s about fucking time. Not gonna lie it’s a bit late for his soul!
cant beat brittish sarcasm
The Rock only cares about one person. Himself.
Now we just need to see him act more without the roids
For the first time, I don't see The Rock
this is insane glaze. This is a swan song for a dude who has played himself his entire career. Hes literally playing a real fighter after being in the wwe for decades, you gotta be kidding me dude. He’s literally playing himself as another dude playing another dude 😭.
Agreed!!!
He was indeed different in movies like ,, scorpion King,,,walking tall,,,becool,,, Gridiron gang,,, southland tales,,,the Game plan,,,Faster,,,pain&gang,,fast five,,snitch,, Hercules and Moana.
@barjeesali4040he’s playing a brolic dude who’s a fighter. Let’s stop like this is new. It’s a drama. That’s what’s new to you all.
@corkybee,,to be Honest if thts the case leo Dicaprio had also played mostly a dramatic characters.
Bas playing bas is legendary
Is he playing himself? He's old
@zzzzzz69...who else would he be playing? 😂
@zzzzzz69Bas Rutten played by: himself
@demiricious an older person
ah i didnt see him until you said it.
I am not the generation of UFC viewers in the Mark Kerr era. But as a generation who used to play UFC with PS2 games, I liked Mark Kerr. I’m really looking forward to this movie. 😊
I’ve said for years that if you gave The Rock the right script and the right director, he can act his ass off (like with some of his earlier films when he was finding his footing in Hollywood). Happy to see him getting a huge chance to shine instead of just playing himself in by-the-numbers action films.
THANK U! Bc he actually can, "Snitch, Faster, Gridiron Gang."
Only ppl who grew up on his early movie career knows he has the range. Im glad hes coming back into more vulnerable roles again.
Yes hes really pushing the limits by being a former athlete playing the role of an athlete 🤣 you are exactly who they market to.
@JadeZuberi he has range? Yes an athlete playing an athlete is really something to see...
@who399aye, by all means step in the acting ring champ if u can do better. Id love to see ur acting reel, u seem to speak like an expert.
@JadeZuberi sound logic, i guess since im not an astrologist i shouldn't mention that the sun is bright today? Honestly why are you taking offense to actual fact? I bet you think Eminem is a great actor too for playing himself in a movie about himself 🤣
0:38 I knew he was Rock as soon as I saw the back of his neck 😂
😅
Vincent Kompany neck
Proud of you🫠
Dwayne Johnson, I accept your apology.
Which apology?
@mattrb8101I assume that whole Hawaii thing everyone forgot about
@P8nplaysor never knew cuz they have a life
@MarvNARKyou can have a life and still see stuff that was all over the internet …
Apology for what?
🤔
I can already tell that Emily Blunt needs an Oscar nod for this
A chance for Dwayne, captain of Hollywood, to show his quality.
A+ level Faramir quote
You now wish that our places had been exchanged: that we had years of the real, authentic Rock and not goofy comedies. Yes, I wish it.
@wetasaurus Lmao.
As someone who done mma for 15 years a lot of this hits close to home. The constant pain and no one understanding why you do such a thing. I’m retired 10 years. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss it
stop lying lad
@Official_-Reggie1not that I should have to prove my self, search “Jonny Origan MMA highlights “
@Official_-Reggie1why would I be lying
haha oh well
Any videos of your fights bro
The song choice is pretty insane since Emily Blunt sang it in her previous film, The Fall Guy.
Someone else noticed 😂
Thing's three quarters of the way down on the right side of my page. What do they call that - the scroller? lol Anyway, thing's 3/4 of the way down before I see a mention of Emily Blunt, wife of the luckiest guy in the world.
Everybody talking bout The Rock and I’m here for Emily
The legendary Phil Collins!
I remember The Fall Guy.
Can't remember the last time a trailer gave me chills, Rock about to show the world how good of an actor he really is.
Eyebrows?
Honestly, pure chills and I’ve replayed it more than 10 times it’s the music chosen perfectly
@madchicken3475 I’m with you. I watch this trailer maybe 10 or more times now and still get chills. Been a long time since I was pumped for a movie to drop
Finally...a Dwayne Johnson role where I don't think of 'The Rock' first, but think of the character instead. That's what real acting is all about, and this is only a trailer.
Only people do. Lol what planet you on, everyone is now saying this is an distraction
Most people have no idea who Mark Kerr is/was etc
@shazanali692 right, hes literally playing a fighter as a huge roided up dude who fights in pride. People are glazing like crazy
Well said..
That actor who plays Bas Rutten has done his job 11 out of 10. So magnificent!
The coolest thing is the actor who plays him IS him 😊
Safdie brothers trying to one up each other this year!
Both putting out fire
@ianmillerdevilsfan1223 Whaaat? Really? I thought they were just stretching their legs
amazing what they can produce when their group owns the industry
@Despair505 I think it's because Benny wanted to be more of an actor-director, having done a handful of acting roles in things he didn't write or direct, like the Disney+ Obi-Wan show and Oppenheimer, and is likely to become a Chris Nolan regular due to having a part in his Odyssey adaptation that's coming out next summer, while Josh wanting to stick with being only a director, and maybe their falling-out came from how that completely pulled the plug on the 48 Hours remake that turned into some other 48 Hours-related project before being scrapped altogether, was a part of a real falling-out.
@ConcernedAlienI believe this! I’ve seen both brothers before actually and there seems to be something going on there. Benny has also been producing for Chris Nolan as well. They seem to be going on different paths.
Damn, The Rock is actually going to act this time
With all the praise for The Smashing Machine floating around, I’m half-expecting The Rock to pull a "the hierarchy of power in the Oscar campaign is about to change" moment just for the fun of it
I'm expecting him to pull of an electrifying performance.
Never thought I would say this in my life but the rock needs a Oscar nominations this movie was beautiful
It’s not just the physical transformation, Dwayne seems to be experimenting with a different cadence and delivery than we’ve seen in most of his past films. It may be subtle, but it’s a promising sign that he’s really committing to the acting this time. The trailer looks strong, and I’m hoping this turns out to be a career highlight for him. Whether it's Oscar bait or not, I'm looking forward to seeing The Rock actually acting for once
He is playing a real life person. Search for the documentary called The Smashing Machine
ive crapped on the guy before but im all for him making a sincere change
That cadence and delivery is spot on for how Mark Kerr actually spoke. I'm impressed.
Calm down it's just a movie.
Physical transformation ? lol wut
Anyone that has seen Heidi Gardner playing her character "Every Boxer's Girlfriend" in SNL knows that Emily Blunt is taking the kids to her sister's in this movie.
Dude I thought the exact same thing as soon as she talked.
Angel
1:17 With all due respect, I don’t understand why they haven’t made a movie about Mark Coleman. He had a huge impact on the sport and also went through personal struggles.
because the pitch for this movie was probably something like "we can cast Rock" and studio went with it
They still haven’t made a movie about Mark Coleman. Mark Coleman is the hammer… Mark Kerr is the smashing machine… I didn’t know about either fighters. I just googled and saw that the movie apparently about Mark Kerr.
Partially because of the success of the actual documentary… Smashing Machine (helped this movie).
I could see in a few years they make a movie about Coleman. Specially considering how he survived that house fire.
Maybe one day
You could make a movie about all of those guys early on. Dan Severn, Don Frye, Mo Smith, The Russian. Those who know, know. Hell, even Ken, Frank Shamrock or Hackney "the giant slayer." I hated the guy but Tank Abbot would make a great cautionary tale movie.
Oscar-bait or not, it's really impressive seeing The Rock actually acting for once, and critics praising him, like it's a breath of fresh air! 🌹❤🩹
The man is desperate for an Oscar after many of his films have flopped. Not many biopics will lead to an Oscar. Check out the many great biopics that were snubbed during the Oscars
Yes a former athlete playing an athlete is really showing his acting chops 🤣 you are definitely the audience they market to.
@criminalmindsgirl2936 actor who’s desperate for Oscar? I don’t see any problem in that miss Karen
Fresh of breath air
@who399 do you have a brain? Not all athletes are the same. There are things called personalities and everyone's is different.
I can’t wait.. as someone who’s writing his “comeback story” too this is gonna be the movie of the year and role of his lifetime for The Rock 🔥⭐️💯
The guy they got to play Bas Rutten has his looks and mannerisms down!
Makeup was amazing.
That is the legendary, El Guapo!
El Guapo!? Believe you me… that guy can’t hold a stick to El Guapo. I don’t know who that bum is but he did a terrible job of playing Bas. Doesn’t even look like him!
@phillipspridepressurewashi350those are prosthetics. Same guy did the make up for the penguin
But can he hit a nice clean punch to the liver though 😂
Finally a demanding role as an actor
The idea of possibly seeing the words "Academy Award Nominee Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson" because of this film... that's pretty wild, but it's highly possible. Emily Blunt could easily get in for this too. I guess we'll have to see!
He’s been groomed by the left to be their candidate Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho for years. This is pure Hollywood gold and I can’t wait to watch the sheep take their servings as always.
@rogerc23 Dude you been drinking too much brawndo. Step away from that punch bowl.
@rogerc23 it must be tough to allow a comment on a movie trailer to affect you this much, hoping for the best for you future
Man, this trailer hit the spot... Really hope The Pebble wins an Oscar for this.
He got good PR but there is Danzel Washington and DDL 😅😅
The actor is not John Cena
People who say Dwayne Johnson couldn't act before this movie are probably the ones who only saw him during the big box office Viagra stage of his career. But even before this movie, he was already great in Pain & Gain, Snitch, and Faster the movies themselves weren’t all amazing, but his acting in them was genuinely strong and showed he had more range than people gave him credit for.
You have put it very nicely with as many appropriate words as possible. Much appreciations. Sick people get to see life only to excitations.
A) Pain & Gain was a serie Z movie. Too bad.
B) Faster? When he gulp so hard for all the movie?
C) Snitch? Are you serious?
I've seen every rock movie he put out including that god awful Southland Tales. I am not on the "he is a terrible actor" side because even the physical part of roles is acting but character wise he played the same character with minor differences. The Run Down was the high point for his "character" roles and then it weirdly went down hill from there. When he was getting those disney movie checks I think that kinda stunted his growth. He should of been doing these type of films from the start.
Glad to see Pain & Gain mentioned positively. That movie is so under-rated and Johnson was superb in it. That "rock bottom" scene on the balcony makes me laugh every time I watch it.
Gridiron gang vibes of a long lost actor somewhere in him 😊
the song playing with this trailer just makes everything hit so much harder
My boy Phil. ❤
So refreshing to see Dwayne Johnson portraying a serious gritty role for a change 👌
It looks gritty, but it also looks like he brought subtle humor to the role.
The Rock has been in plenty of gritty roles, wtf you talking about? Have you even seen the man's catalog?
Gotta love how 99% of the comments say Johnson should win an Oscar or actor of the year when 99% of the people have not seen the movie yet.
Rock gonna get an Oscar nomination, that will be insane
As much as I love to see that, Rock might get a Golden Globe nomination at most.
😂
@mansamusa7927 🥴You are on your mother’s couch. Laugh at yourself
If this movie interests you, take a look at "The Wrestler (2009)" starring Mickey Rourke. Less glamorous, more dark.
The Wrestler is a masterpiece, great shout
He speaks like Mark Kerr too! I'm so excited for this.
Okay, The Rock, I see you. WWE Champ to Oscar Winner
This movie was phenomenal
How realistic portrayal would someone except from a movie and a wrestler when the wrestler himself is the protagonist, and the A24 is the production company!!
This was an outstanding movie rock and Emily blunt roles were amazing I hope this is a Oscar nominated film and I hope Dwayne the rock get an oscar nomination
Despite The Rock's often questionable, safe, and underwhelming film choices, I never wanted him to fail as an actor. He has all the resources in the world to choose projects that truly showcase his talent, if he’s willing to push beyond his comfort zone. I'm genuinely glad he found Benny Safdie and A24, a trio I never imagined coming together, but here we are. The Rock needed this, the audience needed this, and I’m absolutely rooting for him to succeed. This movie is a test for his range as an actor, it's so exciting 🙌
6 comments in 10 minutes Jesus.... How much are you getting paid hahaha
@joe6839 I think he forgot to switch accounts between each comment... because what is this lol
@joe6839 The OP is definitely getting paid by The Rock himself 🤣
That's an unique choice of words. "A trio I never imagined coming together." 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 Got to be good-looking, 'cause he's so hard to see! Come together. Right now, at the box office.
I'm glad to see The Rock doing something different from his usual movies. The background score that makes the audience connect with every scene is sensational. This movie is filled with emotion and resilience. I can’t wait to watch it.
It would be insane if The Rock actually gets nominated for Best Actor next year
For real, that will be wild
Probably just earning Golden Globe nomination
@RobDewey2601 Exactly, I see this being an Adam Sandler in Punch-Drunk Love situation
Let's do this Rock! He looks completely different and he is expanding his range. I love it!
This movie deserved way more promotion/marketing.
it's not even out yet bestie
@hismario123 Point still stands. Besides 2 trailers, one of which came out hours ago. The movie has barely been promoted anywhere, Even on Ufc fight nights and PPV's they don't even show it on breaks or anything.
@CDNKakarot2814 They brought it up on the live UFC broadcast from Paris this weekend and played a TV spot.
@CDNKakarot2814 - That is because they are savvy, not cheap. Somebody upstairs realized that there's such a thing a shoving a movie down peoples' throats. Or trailers that show just about the whole movie. They know what they're doing, they put Emily Blunt in it - she read the script and said, "Yeah, I'm in."
@blake_lively_matters6553 Lol you basically said that big yellow thing in the sky is hot. I see what you're trying to say cuz its A24 they dont really need many trailers cuz they have their own set of people that will always watch. But doesn't change the fact that story like this with such heavy context and with such talent deserves more light is all.
it's good to see Dwayne have his Adam Sandler moment.
Look Mate... This is no Happy Gilmore 2, No matter what the critics are saying.
Uncut Gems - great movie
@j55321he meant Uncut Gems moment
Benny Safdie did it again❤
Moral of the story, don't let a toxic woman destroy your life.
1:11 The 2012 Olympic gold medalist, former Undisputed Cruiserweight champion, and current reigning, undefeated, undisputed three time heavyweight champion of the world.....
Yes, Usyk plays a role (Igor Vovchanchyn) in this movie!
🐴🚫
2:17 Very feel😁
I like the casting choice, but kind of funny when you consider that Igor was 5'8".
That breakdown scene broke me. He better get that Oscar nom for this movie.
Deserve theater experience
Man i need the full version of that Against All Odds song.. it brings another vibe to it
I've had it since it came out in 1984! Written and sung by the one and only Mr Phil Collins!!
I’m so excited to watch this film I can’t wait
I feel like some of the dialogue also reflects on Dwayne Johnson himself and the opinions of those who criticized his acting before. Just listen to his dialogue after the halfway point of this trailer. Around 1:20
I never switched up on this man😭so proud
This is genuinely one of the best trailers I’ve ever seen.
Hoping Rock you get that Oscar like damn I'm getting emotional watching this trailer🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲
Emily and Dwayne their screen play is always perfect. Such a beautiful combination
It seems like this movie is Dwayne Johnson's apology for playing "The Rock" in all his previous movies. He has finally come around and become an actor he was meant to be.
Been a while since I seen Dwayne do some serious acting. He looks real comfortable in this role... for obvious reasons. Can't wait to see it!
he's going to win an Oscar for this role mark my words
The actual documentary is my favorite one ever. This just seems to be a literally scene for scene remake. Do your self a favor and watch The Smashing Machine documentary if this trailer interests you
Exactly great documentary
I'm always rooting for Dwayne Johnson. So happy that he finally took a risk and broke out of his 'this always works for me' box. I'm excited for this film, and excited about what it could mean for moving his career forward in a new way. Woot!
For those who are saying this is the first rock film seeing him other than the rock. Clearly has not seen his earlier movies. Walking Tall for example was amazing. As he got more successful his movies weren’t as good but his earlier work was good in the movie scene… his movie “snitch”was good also
Why does Emily Blunt play literally everyones wife in every single movie.
You should watch her in ‘Sicario, ‘The Girl On The Train’, ‘Edge Of Tomorrow’, ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘Looper’ and others. In Looper and Edge Of Tomorrow she’s a baddasss
Coz she a female
She doesn’t
I'm happy to finally see him doing films he genuinely wants to do and enjoys doing. Can't wait to see what the future holds
This made me tear up a little bit
Same
FINALLY.... a movie where The Rock isn't being The Rock. Even the voicing is different. This looks incredible.
The Smashing Machine looks amazing, based on the reaction at the Venice Film Festival it’s going to be one of the best movies of 2025, so hyped to watch it. The Rock truly transformed into Mark Kerr, from his look, to the depth of acting, this looks like it’s going to be a fantastic performance from The Rock.
Wow. I'm excited for Dwayne. He deserves this chance to move into better roles.
Dwayne Johnson is coming for his Oscar Nomination! The Smashing Machine got a 15 minute standing ovation & Benny Safdie won Best Director & The Silver Lion award at the Venice Film Festival!
Yeah, let’s pretend Dwayne’s acting is the reason this movie is good. Not the other actually good actors, the script, the director and the prostetics. 0:24 What is this garbage performance?
Nobody cares
If you think his acting deserve the nomination...lol😂
It’s mimicking, not acting. He just watched the documentary and does the exact same thing Mark did. Mimicking…
The whole 15 min standing ovation has been done to death
The NY Times did an absolutely beautiful interview with him called "What Dwayne 'the Rock Johnson
Knows About Pain." It's worth the read.
And Phil is back! Love this song!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Looks amazing. I imagine The Rock can relate to a character with so many inner demons.
Never thought I'd see The Rock looking very good at winning an acting Oscar.. This is Crazy, he is meant to play Mark Kerr. Could be the role of a lifetime for him.
Im sorry but you know hes not a great actor and this may show he has gotten better but for him to win will not be off of pure acting and we all know this
I think The Rock is already an Oscar nominee for Best Actor if he hasn't already won before this movie comes out.
This is actually a good movie!
The Rock is showing the World his acting talent
I'm so excited for this film. I was sold from the first trailer. Props to the director Benny Safdie for the way he shot this film. Has the right feel to pull me in and want to see it.
His makeup makes him unrecognizable. This movie, this cast, and this performance from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson are truly incredible.
The Music was crap. Best part was the guitar guy and harp player.
this is the one. oscar season isn’t ready.
Right….
@dannyc7227 LMFAOOOOOO 🤣
1:12 MY GOAT!!
A day without Pain is a day without Sunshine.
Please like the comment I want to hear it more as I can.
First film where I don't see the Rock being himself in a role. Looks like a good film
Dwayne getting the Oscar nom for this
I'm not one to go out to the movies these days, but this trailer just convinced me to take my son to go see this...
Did anyone else first read the title as "The Samsung Washing Machine Trailer"?
😂😂😂
That would be a much more interesting story than this slop
Movie was very good, the whole cast was amazing.
I'm looking forward to Dwayne's first role as an actor
😂😂😂😂😂 that was funny
THIS WAS THE BEST MOVIE I’VE EVER SEEN. IT DELIVERED ON EVERY LEVEL
The use of 80s and 90s music these days is proof that music peaked then and there is literally nothing worth listening to anymore.
What a backwards comment. You have no idea about music.
that comment would hit a lot harder if this wasn't a film that's set predominantly in the '90s
the way they changed his eyes to look different is so cool
first movie with the rock that actually looks good
Excited to see this film
He Looks different 😊
Really deep, emotional and of powerful revenge.
I admit that I gassed myself and not a little in seeing this trailer.
The Blunt and The Rock practically perfect.
The direction really looks like a lot of stuff.
In short, I can't wait! ❤️🔥💪🏻
Have we watched same trailer? 😅 this glazing is so cringe...
I absolutely love the shots with him and Emily Blunt. She has such a warm, inviting presence when they're interacting.
That’s Phil Collins’ song Against all odds in the backround in the trailer
Indeed. We remixed it for this trailer. We had a ton of fun working on it with composer Joe Totino.
Isn't that the same song Emily Blunt sung in The Fall Guy?
