    Dude! You are the Eric Clapton of watercolor tutorials! I don’t usually comment on any social media, (most would call me a lurker, lol) but I’ve been singing your praises in all the watercolor groups on Facebook and even on Reddit. I’m still very much a rookie, but your teaching makes the learning curve much easier to navigate. Hope you’re having a great day!

    Thank goodness for your comments about not expecting to become a proficient artist in a short time. After painting for some years and with a lot of time to practice during lockdown…in Melbourne we have been in lockdown for a long time…with the help of your videos, my skills have improved and my painting has gone to a new and much improved level. 😊 Many Thanks for sharing your skills, knowledge and wisdom.

    What a wonderful painting! Thank you, Paul. This time, I have to give a shout out to some special aspects:
    1. The music! Amazingly appropriate, every time.
    2. The t-shirts - SO in the spirit of the painting 😊
    3. Your signature splats - an absolutely delightful touch.
    And certainly not the least important - cheers to the beers!

    Thanks again for another great lesson. One thing I am learning is to not get caught up in detail - being an amateur but enthusiastic photographer that is something I aim for, so it is interesting to approach water colours from a different perspective : more suggestive than "as is".

    Hahaha, "the bin of shame"! Mine is called "the drawer of no more"🤣. Mind you, I keep them to use the reverse side for something else or give them away to friends and family who are interested in my watercolour journey.
    Brilliant demonstration and tutorial with so many useful tips. Autumn colours are stunning, I like the way how you kept it soft and loose. I like that style too, but in your case you have much more understanding of colour mixing and values than I have. Anyway, it's one I will have a go at, perhaps with an underdrawing of my own. The water with reflections and scratched-in ripples is something I haven't done before, well at least not the way you did it. This was really helpful. Thank you Paul.

  • @montagnu
    @montagnu 2 года назад +1

    I really appreciate the fact you admit you have a bin of shame. Not too many watercolour teachers admit they do, and I wish more would.
    My most recent painting is destined for my bin of shame, but before I throw it in there I'm going to use it to test a glazing technique, and then I'm going to use the back for testing colour mixes. I'm a big believer in turning paintings that are 🍋🍋 into 🍋ade. 😄

      @@bramelsheretan Funnily enough, I was just thinking about this. I've seen lots videos titled "in the style of Ron Ranson" which mainly just means using a hake brush, but often those people's own results didn't really excite me, so I'd never really looked for footage of the man himself. Your comment made me find a couple of clips and yeah, his own actual work is much more my thing. Obviously he passed aged 93 in 2016 so I don't know how much will be on RUclips, but I might have to find some old school DVDs.

First that shirt made me smile! 🥰 Second I love that you did this quick and with one brush! Third how do you know when to scrape the paper to make white highlights as opposed to using a gel pen or pastel pencil? And lastly how do you know when to throw away a painting? Can you show us one that you disliked? What was wrong with it? Why do you throw it away?
