Great video. I'm probably going to either make a new quilt, or disassemble and rebuild one of the ones I already made, in the near future. I plan to use some ideas I see in your video. At 8:00, you put tape on the front of the foot - I'll have to try that. I usually use either sewing tape, which is like a ribbon of stiff tissue, or a 1" wide strip of the material I'm using, to keep the little APEX fibers from getting caught in the foot. For determining the insulating value of multiple layers, I subtract each layer's rating from about 18C (being a Yank, I use 65F). Thus for your example, the inner quilt gives 18-5=13C of value, and the outer quilt gives 18-0=18C of value, so the combination gives 31C of value. Then reversing the process means 18-31=-13C rating, or 10F.

Thank you, I've not seen those calculations for temperature rating before. That looks really useful. I was working from the table on this page: support.enlightenedequipment.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002770588-How-to-layer-quilts-for-sub-zero-camping
The tape on the foot really helped, I had to cut out all the parts from the video where the foot got tangled in the insulation before i put tape on because of the swearing!

I'm going to make a simple blanket soon with similar materials, heavier nylon but same insulation. I plan on making the blanket and then adding velcro straps to the outside and opposing velcro to the bottom of a foam pad. It'll be functional but not as good looking as what you did. A year in, how does it do? Did you take it on trips yet? How cold did it get and how comfortable were you?

Hi, I'm going to make a 0 degree F quilt for a High Sierra Route snowboard trip soon. One thing that I've noticed about these tutorials is that no one stitches the loose ends of side clips together before stitching them to the side seams.

Great video. Thank you for it. Do you find the insulation moves around or clumps inside the bag if you toss and turn in the quilt?

Hi, the Apex Climashield insulation that I used is really good in that is doesn't need any quilting or baffles to keep it in place. It appears to be made of 3 layers, with the middle being the most fluffy, but the top and bottom layer have more structural integrity to them, which holds it all together and in the right place.

Hi Ben, I bought it from Ripstop By The Roll in the US. I couldn't find a UK supplier sadly, but it arrived quickly and their customer service is excellent.
