@11:33 applying a system-wide theme (the only logical thing to do when it comes to themes, in my opinion), should actually be done via the "Browse Theme Files option. Selecting one of the Theme files will apply _all_ aspects of the theme, including the Base Theme and the While Playing Theme.
I did it on my 5.5 gen.... its sick. Apple missed out on a huge opportunity to do this themselves. FLAC on a ipod classic!!! The DAC on the 5.5 gen is great so.... no brainer
You can easily apply a full theme system-wide (wallpapers and all) by selecting 'Browse Theme Files' in Theme Settings rather than setting WPS and Base Theme separately.
If you're using a 6/7 gen iPod or having an issue where the iPod fails to remount, abort the process, use the switch on top of the ipod, and keep it held until it boots into the stock os ( you may need to power cycle it by holding down menu and select until the screen goes black first, then wait for the bootloader text to start appearing on the iPod) then you reconnect it, and then right click the start button on windows (bottom left of the task bar) click disk managment, right click iPod, and assign it to a higher letter, then run the rockbox utility again
I found a Damaged 4th Gen back around 2k8. The Apple os was Damaged and wouldn't Boot, but I could Boot Rockbox or iPod Linux The HDD was kaput, but about 1 gig of space with RockBox worked on it lol
Would you believe me if I said Duke Nukem 3-D runs better on the iPod than Doom? Because it does; Slightly higher framerate, with all the FMV's, voice clips, sound effects & music!
3:19 It was by no means an iPod-only kind of project back then, but it's close to being so today since the rest of the listed players have turned into e-waste to quite a higher degree than old iPods have.
I recently saw a guy saying that the iPod classic's don't do shuffle for video's playback . Any idea about that video shuffle ? I.e a different rom/boot that can shuffle vids ?
This firmware rocks! I installed it on my sansa clip zip in the early 2010s and it saved me when the screen died ; it comes with easy to set up text-to-speech, so I was still able to navigate it by listening to the menus and song titles
I'll admit, "dual booting an iPod" is not a phrase I ever expected to hear. On the other hand, running Doom is the obvious next step... because EVERYTHING can run Doom, and the first thing any self-respecting nerd does after managing to run code on a device is figure out how to port Doom.
Well it is in fact dual booting an iPod because when you force restart the iPod, you use the hold switch to determine whether you want to enter OF or Rockbox
I actually played Pokémon Crystal on my iPod nano with Rockbox a lot (ten years ago when at school) , and passed server levels on Doom1 also. Beware not getting too excited while playing Doom on iPod or playing it too much. The click pad does not designed for gaming and need repair after many harder press lol
Rockbox brings back such nostalgia for me. I had it on my sandisk sansa e260, sansa fuze and sansa clip+. The fuze was IMO the best because it had the biggest screen and looked like an Ipod nano 3rd gen. I was actually blown away by how much the audio quality improved over stock firmware and there was so much more EQ customizations. With some decent headphones it sounded almost like I had a higher end music player.
while i kinda miss the clickwheel design, it's tremendously shitty for games - which makes sense, considering the iPod was not designed for them. the novelty is amusing, though.
Weird timing, because I recently ended up with a 4th gen iPod (photo). Threw in a new battery and replaced the HDD with a 128gb SD card. I'm not nostalgic at all when it comes to the iPods, but I do prefer listening to music on that instead of a phone. On a side note, you can also put linux on it, using ipodlinux.
Oh, RockBox. This brings back memories. I had a 1st gen iPod Nano which I flashed Rockbox on. No more iTunes was the single argument I needed, and there was so much more to fall in love with.
Hey. If I want to use my iPod classic dual, do I need to add all music files twice? (Once via iTunes and once via drag&drop) to be received by either firmware? Or is one of the ways working for both?
RockBox was my jam until about 2013 when I (finally/inevitably) joined the ranks of other smartphone users. I remember using the Android port until I updated the phone and it stopped working. Still have a bunch of Sansa Clips and a Fuze+ floating around...Fun stuff.
I have an iPod Classic 120GB. It is in very good condition. No scratches and works well. I use it for music playback only. I was able to install RockBox on it and a few themes I liked. I uploaded about 2000 songs on it. (I had about that many on the native). While RockBox looks pretty, it was just to slow. When I select a song, it would take 30 second to begin playing. Navigation lag was terrible. I removed RockBox, restored my iPod, and re-loaded about 5000 songs and the iPod runs seamlessly. Even though I can dual-boot, I found I would never use RockBox for the reasons above. If it was fast, it would be great because it has lots of cool themes and functionality. RockBox was more of a hassle (for me) than anything else. It was not worth it.
I played the OG shareware version of DOOM, installed from floppies. Now im booting up DOOM: Eternal after watching this video. We live in da future where Skynet didn't happen. And Mayan calendar was wrong. But DOOM is eternal?
I bought an iPod last month after getting fed up of putting up with windows 10 shitty connection to android via usb and not enough space on SD card (you can say "you don't listen to all that music all the time anyway" but what if I want to go back to music i liked few years ago, get pissed off at this shitty connection?), it's a little laggy but I'm very happy with it, finally no problem with syncing music and scrobbling! And the Rockbox apps are a nice add on.
Day before RUclips suggested a video about modding an iPod. Was never interested in iPods but somehow I was intrigued, then I figured that I dot want to deal with with iTunes and now RUclips reminded me of how awesome was RockBox and how as a kid I used it to play Doom on a modded iRiver player :) ah, them memories
