What happened at 5:01 was sonic.exe caused a hallucination, to make knuckles shocked enough to lose his focus. In turn letting sonic have an easier time of killing knuckles.
imagine how crazy knuckles went when sonic said the emeralds were toys
I wonder if sonic.exe can get acknowledged by the official sonic makers even if it's just a nod to it on Halloween, obviously it's too dark and gory for regular sonic games but they can reference it similar to how SpongeBob referenced Squidwards suicide creepypasta in another universe.

You missed an ending in FFFFFF zone. Basically, if you go back up to where you exe knocked you down, there’ll be a big sonic on the ceiling. You have to walk underneath it, and then it’ll hang knuckles with its tongue. The death message is “Curiosity killed the echidna”
