I remember being so psyched when Kensei used his bankai against Wonderweiss, but then they immediately cut away from them, and I finally learnt the meaning of “being blue-balled”
Kensei is so cool and badass. Why Kubo why? Why did you do him dirty like that. We have weird episodes like that Charlotte Cullhorne one yet we can't get a descent fight out of the vizords.
Of all Bankai they chose to skip the one that looks like cool armor with knuckle blades and has the word TEKKEN IN IT! On top of that he’s the only Vizard who used theirs at first
That sounds kinda sus but I do like kensei, wish we got to sew more of the brawler. Their hair might look like a sucked mango sometimes but man I love it man.
Kensei seems like a military man through and through and I really like that about him. He's the only one in the entire 13 Court Guard Squads that feels like an actual soldier.
I forgot Kensei looked like that when they trained Ichigo. He does look like a different character. He looks awesome at the end, wish he and the other Vizards had been treated better. I always liked him. Too bad he didn’t get a full fight and a win but at least we got to see him bankai which is more than we can say for their leader Shinji.
Well for Shinji Everything is reverse His Shikai is for dealing with strong people While His Bankai... Always liked Kensei and felt that he deserved better. I also disagree about Wonderweiss, I think he was a very powerful opponent, somebody durable enough to survive a full-power punch from Yamamoto, and strong enough to one-shot a Senior Captain. Basically, I think Wonderweiss spent a lot of time sandbagging, but given his durability I can certainly see him be able to endure a beatdown from a Captain like Kensei until he suddenly launches an attack that one-shots him.
He took 3 full powered punches from Yamamoto and was fine. It was only after being hit with the sokotsu that he died. I don’t know a single captain capable of that feat

Yeah, why didn't Kensei and Mashiro fight Tosen alongside Komamura? Kensei ist really a great character and I totally love him. He's my second most liked Vizard and I really like his not so cinematic but practical abilities. But he's like all the Vizards with definitely not enough Screentime and time to show off. I just think that his style like always using bankai but being defeated because the plot needs him to Lose lets him look kinda weak
Kensei is my favorite Captain. Soooo underrated in the show. Love the 9th, best division ever!! Hisagi is awesome. He's not a captain yet coz Tousen crushed his self steem.
I love kensei. He's so straight forward, the fact that he goes straight into bankai. His bankai is just "punch good". The fact that he has enough character to not use his hollow mask.
He never felt to be more than a jobber and an aftertought imo, "Hey look at this captain class bad ass character using bankai no less" and then he gets taken down to hype the villain, there's TNG Worf vibe there A big problem with the Vizards is that they never really got emotional closure, after the battle against Aizen, it's a big missed opportunity of them not getting the say how they felt when Aizen was being tried and sentenced and when he bought out by Shinsui. We needed more conversations with Aizen
I hate how kubo did kensei so dirty in this series , kensei gave me major roronoah zoro vibes , we never got a straight up fight , his fight with wonderweis was off screen and don't even get me started on that fight with the stupid luchador . The vizards as a whole should have had a more prominent role in the final arc .
Super-Vice Captain? ...Huh, that sounds almost like Supervise Captain. I got feeling role is there so Kensei can keep eye on her, who knows what she'd do...
It's a self proclaimed title. She always striked me as the type to watch shows like "Power Rangers" and such. Since the Vizards haven't really left the warehouse much in the last 100 years they could be considered the ultimate Hikikomoris xD
I feel like his character fit perfectly to be the cook. His no-no sense attitude probably made him complain about one of the others cooking to the point that he said I'll do it myself
I wish we got to see more of kensei. He was one of my fav characters. Plus I just liked the way he looked. Would have been nice if he actually got a W in his fight in the blood war arc.
Honestly, you'd think that he would have beef with Tousen and demand a fight with it considering he literally got stabbed in the back by him. Also another thing I wish we saw was him have a moment with Shuuhei much like how Lisa did with Kyoraku and comment on his growth or him in general. Heck even a simple look of acknowledgement and making eye contact would say a lot. Youd think the guy who idolized and tramp stamped his face with the 69 tattoo would have a lot to say and feel about Kensei. Another cool thing that could have happened was have him save the day and help Shuuhei vs Tousen because it makes no sense to how a hollowfied above captain strength Tousen would be bested and penetrated by Shuuhei's blade when spiritual pressure is a fundamental part in deciding what can and cant cut your opponent. Heck Komamura had a hard time to even budge hollowfied tousen and its not farfetched to assume he has espada like traits like the regeneration or hierro. So with this plot hole it mind, it would have been perfect to let Kensei come and save the day and do a bit of a deja vu and provide Shuuhei a nostalgic trip to the past and give him newfound resolve. It would have also been nice to see Kensei and Shuuhei team up. Such a shame all the vizards get the short end of the stick in writing and plot/fights because they have a lot of emotional and plot potential. These are former captains/vice captains who were experimented against their will and were betrayed by their own peers and the soul society itself thus forcing them to exile. It seems to make their decision to return questionable.
He reacts to Ichigo's hollowfied bankai attacks at point blank range without receiving any attacks. Hakuda master- fast like Soi Fon, but strong like Sajin. Zanpakuto is versatile for high cutting or explosive potential at all ranges. He should be of a much higher tier than people give credit for. Plus we never see his full potential with Mask amplifying his stats. When Hollowfied with no Zanpakuto he put multiple Captain class Shinigami in critical condition. Punch in Hollow form (NO Zanpakuto) comparable to Starrk (released) blast based on damage to Love.
I understand why he didn't, because it would've been an extreme amount of detail to draw, but Fake Karakura Town really needed a large number of hollows and simple Arrancar foot soldiers to keep all the Gotei members busy. It would make much more sense if Kensei got distracted defending Masahiro and let Wonderweiss escape. It's really weird that Aizen spent so long creating foot soldiers, then showed up with basically 6 soldiers of any worth. Where is his army? He has all of Hueco Mundo at his disposal, but his forces are 3 Espada, their fraccion, a handful of Menos, Gin and Tosen. If the fraccion and lesser hollows had been background fodder to the important fights it would've been so much better. It should've been Bleach's Marineford, but it's narratively more similar to the worst parts of the 4th Shinobi World War
I love your videos your so educated in bleach your amazingly awesome I like kensei as a whole I really wished he got more time I have a kensei lvl 200 In brave souls and i love his character
I love kensei..... The hair after he is reinstated as capt..... Coolest hair in bleach.... Hands down .... hes an awesome character, he definitely needs more screen time in the anime they guy oozes cool
Tom always puts out great content, both thoughtful and well researched. But here's a challenge for you; count how many times he uses the word "really" in any of his videos. Then, take that number and do that many sword drills to improve your skill with zanjutsu!
My understanding of Tachikaze's abilities is that it relates to compressed air axplosion, that's how I think it classifies as a "wind-type". Imagine beeing cut by a wind blade that is made of high psi compressed air that bursts inside of you. Or stabbed by an army-knife that sends a burst of compressed air. The same with bankai, each punch is like beeing hit again and again by the explosion of a huge compressed air cylinder. Also Kensei's "kame-hame-ha", that blue aura beeing air and reiatsu beeing compressed around the zanpakuto and released uppon impact.
Wonderweiss off-screening Kensei always made perfect sense to me, especially after TYBW. Given how Tachikaze is based on explosions, which is not that far from fire. And while Wonderweiss is calibrated for Yamamoto, it's well within reason that makes him a hard counter to any fire/blating/combustion type attack. So ass soon as Kensei stops the hard stomping and let's out his zanpakutou's explanation, Wonderweiss just goes resurección, surprises Kensei with the counter, and that moment of shock is enough for a classic surprise Wonderweiss berserk to insta-KO him. But getting that off-screen is good for pacing as surprise to Yama same as reader, and later getting more info on Kensei's bankai can be a more natural exposition
I think the Tachi in Tachikaze comes from the "Kamitachi" yokai in folklore; they appear as whirlwinds and deliver bloodless cuts to their victims. I think that the exploding rope is the bloodless cut of the kamitachi (after all, the hollows Kensei cuts like that don't bleed even though hollows do have some type of blood)
Wind is also a good element for cutting power and you probably think of the exploding aspect of his ability like how Naruto explained the Rasenshuriken
Wonderweiss was built specifically to counter Ryūjinjakka. Being able to absorb its flames. I'd wager that this ability isn't limited to dealing with Yamamoto. Kensei's explosions and Yamamoto's flames at their core are reiatsu. So I think Wonderweiss defeated him easily because his ability is actually to absorb reiatsu that "heats" up or rapidly expands. Perhaps Kubo didn't show us because he didn't want it to be a revealed yet, but still a missed opportunity.
I remember when We first saw the vizards I thought Kensei had one of the coolest designs and I was instantly drawn to and interested in who he was and thought he might become one of my favorite characters. I loved his Shikai being a knife. I was kinda disappointed in his bankai even though it is pretty fitting to his character. I guess I was kinda hoping he had some more obscure or interesting ability…and like you’ve said all the vizards are disappointingly wasted a bit
The vizards were my favorite group of characters, design wise, in Bleach. But one of the fatal flaws in Kubo's writing is that he keeps jamming in new characters instead of cultivating the one's he has, so A LOT of them end up feeling underwhelming. It comes down to the basic argument of quantity over quality. The vizards could have made for some of the most interesting characters in the series but Kubo literally just keeps them in a storage facility until its time to pull them out.
If yamamoto had less of an issue controlling his temper the series would have been a lot shorter because they all would have known about Aizen being a traitor. Or at the very least made it more difficult for him
I'm wondering if Wonderweiss may be some kind of quincy arrancar hybrid Aizen made to seal Ryūjin Jakka. We find the quincy bankai stealing technique later, but that is essentially a version of Wonderweiss' power and his name strikes me as more 'germanic' than spanish like traditional arrancar. It's even pronounced this way with this inflection in the anime sub. Possible theory? We know from CFYOW that Aizen had collected soul king fragments (if no where else than from Rangiku) so it's possible he had a quincy type piece he could use to forge Wonderweiss and develop this ability the same way the quincy ultimately did during their invasion.
One of my favorite characters. Doesn't get the respect he deserves. And with imagination, his abilities could be boss. Wish i had it lol..But What if, as you said, Kensei's ability is explosive based; whether created by wind or fire. And in turn, Wanderweis' ability is able to extinguish Kensei's wind explosions..? Just a thought lol
Honestly other than when shinji blasts grimjow away the vizards were criminally under utilized most are captain class with the power of hollowfication ( mastered I may add after 100 years of training) they should be monstrously powerful look at the boost it gives ichigo but they have to gang up on the arrancar to barely pull off wins and then the Quincy slap them all around and they never use their masks or hollow powers which would be the logical power to use against the Quincy it would have been smart to use them as the front lines in the 2nd invasion because of their hollow sides their bankai couldn’t be stollen or whatever and then that would have given kubo a reason to show more of their bankai’s off more and more even match ups that way because I feel the sternriter were written unfairly strong in comparison to the captains
I think I heard you state Kensei was betrayed by his vice-captain. He wasn't - Mashiro was already vice-captain at the time of TBTP, and Tousen was a member of the investigation team Kensei took with him
The "Tosen" exchange between Kensei and Hisagi in the anime will either be cut or extended. I am fine with both but if they choose to expand this scene,it would be really nice.
Like all the vizards, he could have shone and be more fleshed out if Kubo threw him a bone here and there. But he does look cool and overall I think he is likeable
Personally I always thought that Aizen secretly (= hidden under hypnosis) helped Wonderweiss to defeat Kensei. I mean Kensei is hollowfied captain and Aizen can't risk Wonderweiss getting defeated because otherwise he would be screwed against Yamamoto. I also would've liked if he and Rose defeated Mask. I mean Mask crushing both of them is really pathetic.

Great point. He does always jump straight into bankai lol... good call!!!
This guy was a big hair inspiration for me in middle school haha
This channel is awesssssssome
Awesome character design, bankai and all and I wish we got to see more of him.
Hope youre doign well Tommo sensei! Always enjoy your videos!
He never felt to be more than a jobber and an aftertought imo,
"Hey look at this captain class bad ass character using bankai no less" and then he gets taken down to hype the villain, there's TNG Worf vibe there
A big problem with the Vizards is that they never really got emotional closure, after the battle against Aizen, it's a big missed opportunity of them not getting the say how they felt when Aizen was being tried and sentenced and when he bought out by Shinsui.
Honestly unless you re the headcaptain, mayuri , kenpachi and byakuya, kubo did captains dirty
I think he did Love far worse. I can't even remember if we ever even see him fight in the final arc. Forget about ever seeing his Bankai
He's my favorite vizard. Love his design and no bullshit attitude.
I love how you mix together enthusiasm, comedy, speech, opinions and easy to listen too script In you're videos you should talk with tekking101
You should definitely do more videos on the visored. Great video so far!
You recontextualizing the joke about Shuhei's bankai made it 10x funnier
Tosen had a cooking segment in the bulletin that was popular I believe, no exaggeration
love this video, kensei isnt my favorite character however, you talking about him has made him slightly more cool in my eyes!
I think Kensei makes a great love interest. You can tell he's a gentleman.
He and and his SUPER vice captain Mashiro are my favorite Visards. I love his combat knife and bare-knuckle fighting style. Sucks they get so shafted.
Be cool to see a video of what each squad does. Like role and what they do and represent.
Good analysis, maybe next we can get one on Love and missed opportunities with his character.
I'm so glad I get to support my man tommo with a membership now! A token of appreciation for the best bleach channel on RUclips
I dream this man saying "Turn back the pendulum" 🤣🤣🤣 he says it so much
I love your videos your so educated in bleach your amazingly awesome I like kensei as a whole I really wished he got more time I have a kensei lvl 200 In brave souls and i love his character
My favorite vizard and one of my favorite characters
Kensei was my favorite for a while. He is not anymore. But he does have my second favorite bankai
His abilities are wind based but it's still all reiatsu
I thought I was the only person in the world who's favorite vizard was rose it's nice to see they're more of us out there.
Stopping mask’s foot with his own didn’t luffy do that once to protect Law from Don Flamino I think it was
I sort of assumed that Wonderweiss using his release gave him a power boost. Aizen was semi-confident that he was enough to take out Yammamoto.
Kensei, gin and young isshin was just Amazing characters .
He is definitely one of the hottest captains 😍
He's my husbando, those arms could have been the Spirit King at the end :)
Could it be that Wonderweiss extinguished Kensei's explosions? We'll never know since the fight wasn't shown...
It's funny how this is the reason we have the reaper of the soul reapers.
Once they introduced the Vizards I was hyped and I was hyped for the Karakura town battle. It all went downhill from there.
Honestly other than when shinji blasts grimjow away the vizards were criminally under utilized most are captain class with the power of hollowfication ( mastered I may add after 100 years of training) they should be monstrously powerful look at the boost it gives ichigo but they have to gang up on the arrancar to barely pull off wins and then the Quincy slap them all around and they never use their masks or hollow powers which would be the logical power to use against the Quincy
it would have been smart to use them as the front lines in the 2nd invasion because of their hollow sides their bankai couldn’t be stollen or whatever and then that would have given kubo a reason to show more of their bankai’s off more and more even match ups that way because I feel the sternriter were written unfairly strong in comparison to the captains
MY FAVORITE!!!!!!
I think I heard you state Kensei was betrayed by his vice-captain. He wasn't - Mashiro was already vice-captain at the time of TBTP, and Tousen was a member of the investigation team Kensei took with him
Exactly, tosen was a 5th seat
The "Tosen" exchange between Kensei and Hisagi in the anime will either be cut or extended.
I am fine with both but if they choose to expand this scene,it would be really nice.
Like all the vizards, he could have shone and be more fleshed out if Kubo threw him a bone here and there. But he does look cool and overall I think he is likeable
I like how kensei and mashiro both wear orange.
Kensei, great desighn,... always droped down early in fight,...
Kensei has always been my favorite bleach 2ndary characters… simply because of Tomokazu Sugita(Sakata Gintoki)
