- Graduates of Recruit Training who are selected as candidates for Navy Diver, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technician or Hospital Corpsman (Dive Medical Technician) move on to the challenging Center for Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Diving (CEODD) Preparatory Course. Are you physically and mentally prepared? Watch this video - then decide if you have what it takes.
When I went through Dive School, there was no prep school. There were 50 guys taking the physical test. 27 made the cut. After three months of living, breathing, sleeping, eating, and everything else in between all we thought about is diving related. I and eight others graduated with that dive pin tacked onto our chest. The other 18 did not focus on the dive pin and was sent back to the fleet. If it was easy, everyone would be a Navy Diver. No matter what your physical skill level is, you will improve as long as you stay focused and graduate. In addition, you need to have good study skills. If you are not studying, you are working out. Intelligence and strength conquers all barriers.
camrsconv I'm planning to join; could you give some instances that a lot of people in your class had trouble with? Aside from what the guy in the video said. I feel like I'm pretty set academically- I'm a quick learner. Anything pertaining to physical tests or challenges would be greatly appreciated.

Prep school is harder than dive school nerd.

Lol
I remember one student that stood out. He was good academically and physically. However, he went partying one night and failed the academic test the next day. He was released from the class and went back to the fleet. Stay focus academically and physically throughout dive school. You are not a diver until you receive that dive pin on your chest.

I’m 13 right now and scuba certified already. I am going to try to become advanced diver and eventually a rescue diver certified. I hope that I can be a navy diver when I’m old enough
lol don’t tell the dive instructors you’re already certified. they will make it harder for you

still wanna be a diver??!!
So fortunate to have a strong competitive swimming background, and my master diver cert. Can't wait to get down there.
Richard Simmons Here's what I'm going to do, I will not take advise from an armchair quarterback. I take pride in my 300+ dives. And in those 300+ dives I have gained experience and proficiency in the water, that will not in anyway hurt my career in the Navy. I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my comment.
EagleLogic how'd it work out for you superstar?
I was in scruft duty with khadra back in 2007 I think it was. Good times

Who cares

@@anonymousiswatching We have 24/25 degrees in the sports pool. It's a little bit cold for me and I use 5mm costume. But they only wear T-shirts. And all NAVY videos are only in T-shirts

Turn your monitor off, put your phone down, and close your eyes listen to this man speak...... Whoever wrote the script for this should be fired. This video does no justice to the community and should be redone.
The tech who is speaking is actually an incredible tech and complete badass. We were hoping the video would have been a little better than it is. He is however being very sly with his words. The program is hard but not impossible. He does, just like the rest of the navy, blatantly lie about the success rate of candidates. More like 20-30% make it through dive prep and then more drop or get dropped during dive school, by the end less than 10% make it from the start to the finish of the special programs
He's an all around awesome guy! Gave me tons of words of wisdom....not to mention the sets of 35 pull ups that he used to do. Straight up beast!
ToadLicker10 From what I know you should work up to 6 miles at roughly a 7:00-7:30 pace. Basically longer distance/fast pace. Alternating days between sets of 1/4-1 mile sprints and then running for distance. Always build up don't just jump into a 3 mile run. Also form, do some research on proper running form because that can make a huge difference on both performance and preventing injury, mainly stress fractures. A good pair of running shoes is highly recommended as well. As for what type of shoe it really is a matter of what you feel works for you. Everyone's different in that area. And lastly there's a mental part in running as well. You might be on a 4 miler and really, really want to quit. Just focus on your breathing and try telling yourself you love the pain! haha. But in all seriousness, make sure you research and even see if you can't talk to a running coach, any sort of help is help regardless. Anyways, just my 2 cents on the running portion, good luck to you man.
