I'm right behind you. Even some amazing artists I get bored of a little after a few weeks. - But with Band Maid, I can listen to 2-3 albums a day - and have done so for months and months. Never get bored. Always some nuance I never heard before every time I listen. Maybe its because I only know a smattering of Japanese - so it still sounds fresh and exciting. - And these ladies have been the wall-to-wall soundtrack while I worded during the lockdown. So glad I clicked on that 1st link and was blown away. Still blown away today. - And 'Different' really rocks. :)
For me the same. I have known the band for 5 years now. There is no day without Band-Maid. At least one song a day. Everytime/day they blow my mind. :-)
This band is very talented. The songs are complex but easy to listen to. They do not hold back, in your face playing, yet they are very humble. What other group/band comes to you with "Gifts and Surprises" and sees you as Masters and Princesses? They truly want you to have a good time. You can't help but feel happy when you're done listening to them. Listen to this band first thing in the morning and you will save on your Starbucks bill.
Been listening to the band for the past 2 years now and never ever i get tired of them. From their debut mini album to this single Different, always gets me excited.
Hey there from Germany... One of the last things you said: If they can still "surprise" and how the maidiacs feel about new songs... That´s the point, they ALWAYS improve, they always switch it up and doing something unpredictable, but in a VERY GOOD way! It´s the same with LIVE shows, they are putting so much effort in it, more solos, an intro here, an outro in this song, they are hard workers, very talented and creative. I´ve never came across an band like this and i am 38 years old! Are they the best band on the planet? IMO they are... No other band is like Band-Maid, you could say the same about Babymetal f.e., but they have a HUGE company behind them that is making a lot of stuff for them (lyrics, songwriting, stage, choregraphy) and Band-Maid is doing it on their own!
I hear you. I'm in my 50s, and been a music fan ever since I was old enough to put the needle on the records ( vinyl) of my parent's beatles and 60's singles collections. - And Band Maid is s ofar the only band I've listened to over and over and not yet tired of them. - I've even got rather bored with western English languge songs nowadays and can't listen to the mainstream radio stations peddling the some old adience friendly stuff. Maybe its because it'd take 10 or 20 years to understand all the lyrics, since I only get a smattering of Japanese words, but there is also just the music, the delivery, the production, the variety. And if social is anything to go by, they seem lke nice wholesome ladies as well. I'm still trying to get my wike and teenage kids to become BM princesses!
Band Maid kept me sane during lockdown. - Even If I was working all the way through. - Empty road. Band Maid pumping through the speakers. .... Life desn't get much better. :)
To me Band Maid has two true masterpiece songs, "Puzzle" and "Daydreaming" but my personal favorite is "Secret my Lips". As much as I have listened to them I can't say I am shocked or surprised by them, but I do understand what you are saying. I believe it come from them playing hard rock with a modern day twist. Basically they play rock but break the Traditional "rules" to satisfy their own artistic creativity and integrity. In this regard I believe they are actually a lot like RUSH. Gene Simmons of Kiss said "what kind of band is RUSH....it's RUSH". I believe this is true of Band Maid as well. Doing a lot of RUSH and Band Maid...as far as I am concerned you are batting 1000! 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂
So many good songs. Haven't found one that I don't like. - I could listen to everything they've done every day if I had a chance. Most days I go through 2 or 3 BM albums while at home, work or in the car. In January there'll be enough for 1 a day every day of the week!
And yes - for me it's 2.5 years and I'm just as "thrilled" with them if not more than when I started. Their writing has catchy elements for sure, but there are so many layers and musical treats packed into virtually every song, that there's not a single song of theirs that I'm tired of hearing. And trust me, that's saying something. They have the complexity of prog, mixed with epic songwriting and top tier talent - and the magical ingredient that lifts your mood.
I think what makes them so special is the amount of fun they are all having, watch their live stuff, like Freedom for example, and just look at their faces while they are playing its pure joy and that is why they get their audience every time because their music comes from a place of enjoyment and love and not a place of "oh gawd we have to play that again" Hope you know what I am tying to say
this band breaks my brain every time. if you follow how they have progressed since initially starting out, it's just crazy. they were already good when they started, and (especially since releasing their own material)they have managed to maintain a steep upward trajectory in terms of the quality, complexity, and inventiveness in their songs.. and always keeping them short and catchy. it's something that you just have to not think about.. like gravity.. or magnets - how do they work?? i agree that there are players that go absolutely ham.. but while impressive, it doesn't always serve the song.. more distracting most of the time. with BAND-MAID it's always tasteful.. for me, that's the word for their music/musical choices.. tasty af every time. i'm anxious about every new release.. i never know what to expect, and other than the high quality, any expectations are obliterated. i feel like it's going to be a relief the day hear a song from them that puts me off.
MISA MISA MISA! they NEVER get OLD or WORN OUT they ALWAYS GET ME and I am a Madiac who has all their physical recordings and Most of their Live shows(not saying you aren't a Madiac if you don't just emphasising my point). I have all their discography and a couple of other Japanese Bands on my Phone (on Random) and that is all I listen to.
Great breakdown of the band itself and the music they create. Between the lyrics Miku writes and the music Kanami puts down they have created a sound that's their own. It's a true test of a bands greatness when each time you listen to them they 'wow' the listener. Truly looking forward to see what their album has to hold when it's released January 2021.
BRO! You've been BAND-MAIDED! Hahaha... I love reactions like this. For a suggestion, no one has ever done a reaction to "I can't live without you" ..but its my personal favorite. They just didn't release another song from "World Domination", so there's no video. If you want me to subscribe for life do one anyway!
As much as I love Band-Maid and want them to be huge (just like every oother B-M fan) there is also a part of me that is enjoying the fact they they are only known by me and my fellow Maidiacs. There will hopefully come that day when they will be that band that draws stadium sized crowds, but right now, I love that I can go see them in a small venue up close and personal. When that day comes, I'll be able to look back and say that I knew them when...
I've got into this whole Japanese Rock/Metal scene early on this year right as COVID blew up around February/March, since then my playlist is literally 90% Band Maid and Lovebites and 10% other stuff. I've probably listened to 50+ BM songs and not one of them are bad. How is this possible? Every band has bad songs right? Not Band Maid (or Lovebites for that matter). Kanami is the main composer of the band, how can she just create these fantastic songs one after another! She is so good at writing these insanely catchy fun choruses. Stay safe!
A lot of far east music in the pop/rock/metal category is a bit high-pitched vocally , or slightly too sugar-sweet or too commercial for me. - But Siaki's lower register and Miku's backing singing hits the spot for me. - Not to say they aren't a commercial product - even with a degree of autonomy - but somehow BM manage to sound fresh/new/independent. - Even if so few bands aren't in hock to their record companies ( to some extent) thses days.

Their ambience makes sense for Japan, as does the heavier rock feel. I like the way a higher vocal register cuts through the guitar (rock bands in the 70s knew that)... my family listens yo a lot of Japanese, Mandarin, and especially Korean language music, so it sn't as jarring for me to hear this band for the first time. I like it!
I enjoy your analysis! Lots of good MVs on their official channel that I don't think you reacted to. Live versions of Real Existence (very hard rock), Play, Domination, Freedom (incredibly fun song) are all great. Good MVs are Rinne (their heaviest song), Blooming, Daydreaming (Rock ballad masterpiece), Secret My Lips, Bubble. Dragon Cries has a Hendrix Blues vibe. The live versions of Moratorium and Puzzle are amazing if you can find them
The new stuff is always puzzling at first but the more you listen, the more you appreciate it, you can see in the earlier music how the wanted to break out but were held back by their label having other writers. The last albums (Conqueror on) are what they have been wanting to do and you can hear it in the variety and inventiveness of their music. As westerners we always try to label music to fit what we are used to, for Band Maid especially you need to open your mind and allow the music to flow into you, corny I know but the more you do that the more you will understand that these women are genius at what they do and the unique sound they have developed. Truly a miracle (as Miku has stated) that it all came together.

Favorite? Whichever one I just listened to. But some of my favorite favorites are you., glory, and CLANG. I think the most fun to watch is FREEDOM, from their show earlier this year.
I have lived in Japan so the maid thing doesn't phase me except that they are so hot. The first song I heard was Thrill 2-1/2 years ago and I immediately immersed myself in every video I could find online. They rekindled this 68 year old jazz fusion prog rock drummers love for music. I think depriving yourself of Band Maid because it has to a first reaction is complete bullshit. No matter how many times you hear their songs they are always fresh and amazing.. Besides, I gravitate towards the musician reactions and you can still break down a song you have already heard and probably break it down better. My favorite Band Maid song is still "Secret My Lips" and the April Fools 2018 version "Secret Maiko Lips" where they wear geisha outfits instead of maid outfits and they add traditional Japanese instruments and change to Kyoto dialect for the vocals. AMAZING
This song was composed as a theme song for a Japanese anime. I don't the title and contents of the anime. So, it might be out of usual BAND-MAID formula. It should be shorter and faster cutting breaks and solos.
As a musician, you might enjoy this. Kanami and Miku released this video yesterday of an interview they did. It has English subtitles. may want to put the link to this video as the thumbnail outro of part one. Its Rush right now :) Sorry you have had a rough year, but its really great and appreciated the fact you really put out top quality reviews. It really carries more weight that you are a pro musician and comment from that perspective too. I watched this video that just dropped this morning with Kaname and Miku discussing this and the B side (new instrumental on Spotify) and how it was composed. As a musician I think you'll really appreciate it. Yes it has subtitles. They arent perfect, but very close and not the laughably bad ones many have of their interviews. ruclips.net/video/nYHpt6pnaUA/видео.html

The last song you hear is your favorite , even when you use shuffle !
I've seen them live 16(?) times and heard everything they've ever released. They still shock me every single release.
same reaction everytime, rock/metal fan for 35 years, Band Maid are the only band that I've listened to everyday for the last 3-4 years.
Me too.Its like hearing Kill em all,for the first time.
