this a masterpiece worthy of historical artifacts. all the photos are definitely worth a thousand million words or dollars. let's keep it for the younger generation, some of whom are lost about their identity to look and study.

+Mathew Xiong You're right. These photos are part of our history, and you can see how our people lived in just the recent century. Things have changed a lot. This video is definitely kept for the younger generation. I hope everyone sees this video and possibly be glad that our people, and our culture was able to be maintain until this day. Many other cultures were lost and died out, but our people had withstand against all those odds to have our name, and culture alive til today. Because I feel many Hmong youths are having a bit of identity crisis, I feel this video is a must be made as well. Our culture is very wonderful just like any other culture too.
I'm sure there are tons of more Hmong/Miao vintage photos, but this was able to put together of what my friends found, and what I found only. After looking at the video again, I've noticed I put some duplicated photos. My bad on that part. But thank you for watching. :)

Hmong history is one of the oldest compared to the Han (Suav), we can traced back to King Chi You time. I want everyone to know that we are not hill tribe nor free people like Dr. Yang Dao stated in his book. When I was conducting a business in China, I met one of the Hmong Historic professor from Three George University in China, he said Hmong history dated back to 5000 BC. Hmong has 4 ethnics which speak four difference languages. Han has 8 ethnics which speak 8 difference languages. I’m sure soon we’ll have a Hmong history book go as far as Chi You time.

+Monkey Lee You're right. Our history is old as the Han Chinese's history, or probably even older too. In reality, we are not Southeast Asians, and we are not any hill tribes. We are East Asians and just happened to live in the mountains due to the oppression, and also to the fact that many other ethnics lives have already settled in the lowland. This is why our people had no choice, but to take the mountains where many are unlikely to settle, and so now we live the mountains as we are known by.

You should also give this video an American title so more people can find it too.
From what I know hmong people moved to South East Asian in the late 1800s...my great grandparent moved around the 1880-90s.... I am only the 3rd generation born in SEA ....my eldest can still trace our ancestry into china..... is not long at all that we have made our journey from china to Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, and to America.
Please do not take this down, it has so much history.

    • @HmongbDebQeutHmoobTebChaws
      @HmongbDebQeutHmoobTebChaws  8 лет назад +1

Oh. I mean it always been titled as "In the Old Days" in English. I'll change it to "Hmong in the old Days" I guess.
Yes. There was a particular war I don't really recall, but it happened towards the end of the Qing dynasty (Manchu rule). Most Hmong ran into SEA during the time you've said. Many groups resented the Qing dynasty and the Han Chinese luckily were able to overthrow the Manchu people and claim the country. I've heard of Hmong people who were able to retrace their ancestors back to China as well, but I never actually got to talk to one unfortunately.
I won't take this video down ever, and is for all of our people. These pictures are our history. :)

I am not sure who landed into SEA last. Because there are not much actual written histories about Hmong migration to SEA, it is believed that Hmong first migrated to Vietnam first. Back then, Thailand used to be known as Siam, which had Laos under their kingdom until the French gave Laotians as their country once they left SEA. Even I personally do not know which country Hmong migrated to first, but according to Hmong/Miao scholars who made a map of Hmong/Miao migration, it seems that Hmong did migrate both from China and Vietnam into the mountains of Siam (Thailand & Laos) later (including the Secret War). Hmong also migrated into Myanmar at the same time as well when Hmong left China by the end of 1790's when the Qing Dynasty, Manchu rulers, greatly oppressed the southerners living in the mountains. Even during WWII, we do not know what the Japanese did as well as they come and landed in Vietnam, and Laos too. If I were to look at the clothing, it seems that the Hmong who whom wears clothing similar to those of Wenshan, Yunnan (majority of Flowery Hmong groups who wears very pinkish and colorful) were the ones who migrated to Vietnam. The Hmong groups that wore mostly of black colors (Black Hmong in general that are more away from the Flowery Hmong groups) in the deep southern part of Yunnan migrated into Laos and Thailand. As for Hmong of Myanmar, they migrated from Yunnan that's more towards clothing of Black, and Stripe clothing like Hmong-Laotian/Thai which you will also find in Yunnan too. Probably some migrated from Guangxi as well. Hmong in Vietnam will speak more like the Flowery Hmong groups (such as Hmoob Lees) from the Wenshan, while Hmong in Laos and Thailand will speak more like those White Hmong groups in the deep southern parts of Yunnan.
Honestly, even I don't know of Hmong-Thai's history because it is due to the fact that here in America, we cover only of Hmong-Laotian's history only. All Hmong-Americans are Hmong-Laotians' descendants. To understand Hmong history to the fullest, we must look at the histories all of the geographies where all Hmong people have landed in SEA. That is how we will know Hmong history a lot more better. Honestly, all Hmong/Miao are ahead of us, in terms of histories knowledge actually. I would have to say that Hmong-Thai migrated around the same time as those from Laos as well. As for Hmong-Thai's history in general, I do not know, but of course, there is the movie "Hmoob Blood For Freedom" which deals a part of Hmong-Thai's history during a Thai communist-royal civil war. Hmong were part of the Thai communist rebel group. Other than that, I do not know much of Hmong-Thai, nor Hmong-Myanmar's history.

the best thing about this video
    is definitely the music
its so nice to hear the melody and tonalities native to the Hmong people
i can hear how close it is to Chinese sounding kinds of things
but it can be heard as distinctly hmong, maybe
it might just be more simple to categorize it as just human
some of the hmong language here is unintelligible
but that is a sign of the development and loss of categorically Hmong culture
ultimately we are just human, and hmong people are subject to nature, decay, and damage
    but somehow they survive.
i think they have lost many things along the way,
and found other things to replace their losses
my prayer for the Hmong is for their survival, in some way shape or form
and even if they lose things along the way,
I hope and pray they live a fulfilled life
and at the end of it all, having something to offer the Heavenly King that awaits them in Eternity
that He can restore to the Hmong, their perfection
cure them of their brokenness, and compensate them what they have lost and suffered
not out of anything they deserve or any reason of the like
but simply because of the good will of a promising Heavenly Father
the struggle was real, but somehow God saw that it was good
May God find favor in the Hmong people,
in this life and in the one after

i like this video alot! i could see a huge change in our hmong people from past to present. its sad that we hmong do not have a country therefore not many people know who we are. living in others country depending where we are, some of us are losing our tradition. in time if we dont do anything the new generations will not know who they are. this video is a great selection to see how our people are like. who we are. thanks for sharing!

+Ty V , don't feel so bad that we don't have country. To have country does not mean our life will be better. The world is made for all of us. Enjoy as much as you can. It doesn't matter you have country or not, we all gonna died and left the country alone.

    • @tyvaj4666

yeah i dont feel bad that we dont have a country and im enjoying my life to the fullest but i am hmong american and when you look at that, with in every new generation they know less about hmong people and they speak less hmong but mostly english. luckily my parents are traditional so i speak hmong and do traditional things. when i do have kids i want them to speak hmong know who are the hmong. my dad has family history far back to when my great great grandfather was in china. my line of great grand and grand are 4 now. when i have kids my dad will be the 5th.

Criss Cross Yang I'm glad to read your comment. You know, I named this channel "Hmoob teb chaws" is simply because our home is where ever we live, or migrated to. To lots of Hmong Chinese, when they use the term "Hmoob teb chaws," they tend to describe the area of which they live in as "Hmoob teb chaws" already. For example, like a Hmong village would be considered "Hmoob teb chaws." No matter where we go to, our home will always be in China, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Myammar. That's where our people migrated to, and those will always be our homelands. For me, I consider China to be our motherland. These are just my thoughts though.

Hello and much love to all my hmoob people. I'd like to know how my people around the world is doing (kuv xav paub seb sawvdaws nyob lis cas tim lawv teb chaw, xav paub txog nej kev ua neej, tej yam ua nej nyuaj siab los tej yam nej xav tia yeej zoo). I'm from Saint Paul, Minnesota, U.S.A. I'd say we're doing good here but it still doesn't feel like it's our home. I wish we had our own country, instead we're spread throughout the world as minorities wherever we reside, continuously fighting for equality physically and politically.

Regardless of what other people view hmong, mostly in an uncivilized way, but personally i feel blessed to be born in a hmong family. Through great prejudice, oppression and struggle, we strive and survive. With all these unforgettable experience, i learn to be humble and love other people as who they are regardless of their races.

Hmoob tsis muaj teb chaw vim peb ua dab loj dhau lawn. Vajtswv thiaj li muab peb ruav pub ntiaj teb. The Vietnam War was a blessing in disguise, it led the Hmong to Christ. After migrating to the US, many Hmong families found Jesus and start building churches (CMA) around the world. I promise you that the day 80% of Hmong follow Jesus, we will receive His blessings. Until then, we are doomed. On my father's death bed, my last words to him were, "Thank you for leading the family to Christ, it's the greatest gift you've given us, you gave us Jesus".
