Instead of the plug at the old volume spot you could put in a kill switch. With a colored LED. That would look sweet! I’m thinking of doing that to my LTD Mirage Deluxe 1987.
@@bbdillWhich switch do you use? I’m looking for something that won’t need much modification to the body. I almost had a heart attack when I saw my tech reaming out a large hole for a push/pull pot. I hated seeing that….
@@2974dc I had to drill them out to 16mm but I use the EVH ones. Tesi-switch makes smaller ones that don't need drilling but they are hard to push in and easier to miss whe playing. The EVH ones are way easier while playing. Worth the drilling.
@@darthshaggy9970 Yeah but it takes away from the functionality of the thing. I'm beginning to hate this trend, if you need to make a height adjustment, you have to pull the thing out, hope you don't strip the wood out from the screws and add foam or something to stack it with. Total P.I.T.A. While rings may not 'look' cool, I'd rather to just be able to turn a couple screws with zero hassle. I actually ended up putting rings on my Jackson because of this, even to fit EMG's I had to take a dremel to the thing to get them to fit, never need to do that with older guitars. I have an Ibanez with a tooth pick wedged in the screw hole, I may end up putting rings on that guitar as well.
I made it this far! That Jackson looks great on you brother! Lovin every minute of it! You can still put on a front pickup ring. Just cut it where it comes back into the neck on the turn. You screw on the four corners anyway so it will hold fine. She sounds money at the end! Love me some Jackson!
I bought the exact same guitar yesterday and immediately thought about swapping pickups with fishman moderns and this video came up :)))))))))) Cheers Rob !!!
Made it this far. Especially liked the pickup ring topic. Ever since Pass Out of Existence huge Chimaira and Rob Arnold fan. Saw you guys about 20 years ago in germany with Kevin on drums. First time ever seeing double miked guitar amps. Great concert. Fantastic night.
41:42 I made it this far! I got to try out the Virtuoso at a local Guitar Center and the neck instantly felt like home, reminded me of my old Charvel DK24. The necks on Charvels and Jacksons are as perfect as a warm bowl of Mac and Cheese on a cold winter night!
23:49 What I would do here personally is start the first hole and loosely mount a screw. Then straighten the pickup ring to be parallel to the trem cavity, finishing screwing in the first screw to lock it in place, then do all remaining holes. This way, you don’t wind up accidentally making the screw holes too far apart and cause the holes to not line up.
I made it this far! Lol i live for these long form videos you do. As a long time player but never much of a tinkerer over the years. I learn a good amount by watching you! Much love bro! 🤘🤘🤙🤙

Heck yeah, you got the pickup ring in there. Looks sweet! …the neck I’d snip it where it meets the fretboard; for ascetic. Just keep the pickup mounted as is add screws, or see if it’s still able to support the neck pickup. Or go gunslinger and cover the cavity, maybe even put a single coil in the neck position and the single pickup ring 🤷♂️ Looking nice!

@robarnoldworld great choice in strings . Stringjoy made right here in Nashville. I haven’t gotten that far in the video yet. I really really hope to see the 5150 I miss hearing that 5150 ii
Use a pair of cutting pliers to adjust the length of screws for the pickup and the pickup ring. I also snip the springs in half and it never effects the height adjustments
Maybe you should look into getting a couple of ESPs with the Extra thin flat neck profile if you're liking how the Jacksons feel. A website compared the Buz-7 against the SH-7 and took the neck mesurements. The Extra Thin Flat on the Buz clocked in at 18.4mm on a 7 string! that's insanely awesome. I tell you, a guitar with a profile like that will play like a dream, I have a similar neck on my 2000's MiJ Jackson Kelly Star and it basicaly plays itself, even nicer then the modern Jacksons I have. Granted, I'm not lucky enough to have a line of USA Jacksons hanging on my wall, most of mine are X series, but the neck profiles are pretty similar between that and my Pro King V which does have their "Speed" profile. I'm sure I personally don't need to start listing off other ways in which Jacksons differ from ESPs, you being such a gear geek yourself, but ESPs have done all of those things on different models before, so there's no reason they couldn't do it for you. I just mention it because, as a huge Jackson fan (that's why I have 5 hanging on my wall) the quality of them has been on a dive as of late. Paint flaws and fret issues on $1000+ guitars that should never have left the factory. Hell, I remember this one channel who had a USA custom king V that had the truss-rod channel misalinged in the neck! Editing comment as I watch though the video: if you want to "de-gloop" the painted neck, as I call it, then scotchbrite is your friend. A couple of light passes knocks it back to a satin-like state that's sooooooo much nicer to play on. Did that to my RR24X7 and my RR24X and boy am I glad. Not gonna lie, I was begging you to flip the guitar over and check those screws hadn't gone right through into the spring cavity before you drilled the top. Speaking of Floyd upgrades, thoughts on stuff like the Turbo Arm and the Sure-claw? Something you might like to experiment with down the road? I made it that far.
Rob, when I need to swap pickups that have quick connect on my m-1000, I just take off screws on the pickup ring, then loose the stings with whammy bar with one hand, and with the other hand I can easily take off the pickup. You don’t need to take of the tremolo, or even loose strings with tuners. You need just loose the strings with whammy bar) But I’m understand that in your case Jackson needed additional work, because you needed do a drill etc in this Jackson.
Word! Yeah man, I just wanted to get a clear picture of everything that was going on with both guitars, and so I decided it would be easiest to pull the bridge in this case.
Made it this far bro!! Great video as usual!! With your neck pickup ring you could modify one by marking where it meets the neck and use a drimel tool and cut away what is in the way.
Hi Rob! A few weeks ago i did some research about "new vs. older" EMG81s...and turns out, the whole thing is a real rabbithole. Had the same thought as you and wondered, if there was any reason for me to kick all the 81s out of my guitars over the last years. Long story short, EMG must have changed the preamp around 2002 and also active pickups kind of mature over the time, so there is really a difference in the sound. Now i´ve collected some 81s of the last decades, a 1986, a 1995 and 1996 and one of the early 2000s - super excited to have that old aggressive ´81 tone back.
Do they still make your LTD guitar bro? My daughter’s autistic and she loves the guitar. I want to get a good LTD or ESP guitar when I get my disability. I dig my JS32 Kelly by Jackson. Maybe they could do something? I’d love a Kelly with an Autism Awareness scene. I’d put it on my really small RUclips that someday I’d love to make lots of content for as a hobby. Just need money computer and such.I’m right down the Freeway from Corona Jackson Guitars😆 I really like them as a company even though I’m still raw and learning.
Hi Rob. I use GHS fast-fret on the back of my painted necks so my fingers will glide better. Works wonderfully on strings too (that's actually it's purpose. 😅). No residue.
I bought that guitar and had to return because of horrible QC. I had the Satin Pink one for about a week. Neck was crooked and the back of the neck had flat spots all over it where it should have been a smooth radius. It was my first Jackson guitar. I ended up returning it because it needed a ton of work from a luthier to make it playable. Huge L. ESP quality is far better.
You can always cut a piece out of top of the neck P/U ring to accommodate for the neck. It's purely for cosmetics anyway. But not sure how it would look.
Another great video Rob!!! I'm gonna order your dvd in a couple weeks for my son's birthday. Was wondering if you could personalize it for him? Cheers 🤘🤘
Absolutely man! There's a place when you order, that you can list any special instructions. So just lemme know what you'd like to see, and I'll make it happen! 🤘
and here I am still reluctantly waiting to replace my 25 year old b.c. rich warlock bridge pickup with replacing the wiring harness as well because its too complex with a tone or volume for each pickup. I bought all the stuff required to do it, even the guitar station gear to help the process but I'm worried about the soldering. I see you got a buddy that does that stuff, very lucky!
Oh I definitely made it this far. I think you can still put a pickup ring on the next pick up. Just notch it out with a Dremel. And I also would go with metal pickup rings. I put them on all my guitars that are flat tops. Try notching out one of those plastic ones first. See how it looks.
Cool video Rob, I like the new trem arm, at first I thought it was titanium! That would be big bucks. I'm surprised you didn't put a brass big block inside the Floyd cavity. I have those in a few of my guitars and they seem to be more punchy. You ought to give it a try. I've heard the titanium ones are the shit but they're like 400 bucks😮. Cool video and yeah I made it till the end lol. Your videos are always pretty good. Btw I am subscribed now but I don't do notifications I don't want to be bothered but I'm subscribed and I do the thumbs up. So I'm in there bro. We play '80s metal the name of my band is BattleMace.... I've got like 5 Jacksons. I am into pointy guitars I've got a few Dean's and a few BC Rich guitars. My Dean Stealth is my number one. I have different pickups in just about every guitar. I do like the 81s but my favorite is probably the Invader, They are kick ass for chugging. For solos I like the black winter pickups. Cool videos See you on the next one Peace.....
Hey I appreciate you tuning in bro! I actually have Big Blocks in 2 of my ESP Customs... The RA-4 and the RA-5. I was told they would increase sustain, but I honestly haven't noticed any difference. Cheers!🎸
That's weird I've noticed a bit more sustained and they seem a bit more punchy but at volume it's hard to tell if you're playing quietly you can notice it especially when doing clean passages. All righty have a good one 🤘@@RobArnoldWorld
I don't unfortunately. But if you wanted, you could simply tuck the tone knob into the electronics cavity, then move the volume to the tone position, and then plug the newly vacant hole. You could then just disconnect the pickup you don't want to use, and it would then act as a dummy!
I didn’t make it that far 😊 By the way, you could put a modified pickup ring on the dummy neck pickup. Just gotta be a little creative! It would still look sweet as a custom addition to your guitar.
Man how I so wish all companies started to ditch the soldering wire on guitar electronics and make them all EMG like with actual pin connectors. It's so much easier and faster. It's crazy that in 2024 people still use soldering lead for most electronics on guitars.
Great video. I personally would never add a pickup ring to a guitar with a finish routing hole. Especially when you can’t add one to the front pickup. Looks ugly and not uniform. But that all just a person opinion, so if you like it, then more power to you 👍🏻.
Nice, I bought a Virtuoso hard tail but I routed it out for Kahler hybrid Tremolo... my plan is to make a Jeff Hanneman tribute Jackson replica.. the hard part is putting the stickers like he had it. But I honestly don't know how people still use Floyds, is that one an upgraded Floyd or is it the same traditional one. Tuning and changing strings in a Floyd is the sole reason why I will never go back to it
Dude that sounds like a rad project! If you want to get the exact look of Hanneman's, maybe check out this guy on Insta that goes by something like Izane Skins. He does SICK paint and graphic work on guitars! You can ship it to him and he'll knock it out and ship it back!
Thanks Jake! Well, I've always thought that I'd stick with 24.75", as it feels very comfortable for me. However, these two new Jacksons I've been playing, the Virtuoso and the green one are both 25.5", and I like the way they play! So, that's a decision I'll have to painfully make if and when the time comes!
@RobArnoldWorld i have guitars in both scales as well and I do agree the soloist plays a lot like your ra 600 bit then I have other 25.5 scale guitars and it seems massive. Maybe it's something with the neck profile idk
I have a Charvel DK24 which shares a similar configuration to the Virtuoso. I was wondering why you did not put a pickup ring on the neck pickup--now I know why. Does not fit.
I stole that little tape on the headstock trick from you recently lol. Now that I’m at 7 guitars I see how important and helpful it is to keep track of string changes. I’m a neck through kind of guy. How do you like playing this one that’s bolt on? Any major differences?
I’ve made it this far. 😂😂 the pickup ring looks good but my OCD wouldn’t allow me to do it since there’s no space to put one on the neck dummy as well.
Made it this far. When you say let the guitar sit over night, is it in a stand, hanging, or in a case? Might seem like silly science but which works best?
Locking tuners, locking nut, new strings, claw adjustment, new whammy bar...you might need to verify your intonation. It sounded a bit off. ...I made it to the end.
I was an ESP guy like you forever but when I deceided to buy an used MIJ jackson DK2-M , the fist time I take it out of the case ..... I grab the neck and wooooooooooooowwwwwwww !!!! fuck this neck is perfect !!!
@@RobArnoldWorld I know, I want to try it too but I’m apprehensive I’ll F it up. I have a few LTDs with satin necks and they’re amazing. I’ve seen some great examples of people taping them off and looking really professional.

Just as you questioned it in the video: The two letters stand for the age group code (A=1, I=9 to J=0) - so JB stands for 2002 ;-)
Right on man! I appreciate that info! Very interesting! 🎸
"The next guy will do him... that sounded weird" LOL
Jackson RAV...first Jackson signature Virtuoso! EMG 81 in the bridge, one knob, 24.75 scale etc
That would be sick! 🎸
Made it this far and sj are the best bro

😅). No residue.
Good tip!
You could prolly modify a pick up ring for the neck.Just cut a section of it out. It would look awesome.
Made it this far🤘
👊
@RobArnoldWorld keep keepin it real brotha👌
I bought that guitar and had to return because of horrible QC. I had the Satin Pink one for about a week. Neck was crooked and the back of the neck had flat spots all over it where it should have been a smooth radius. It was my first Jackson guitar. I ended up returning it because it needed a ton of work from a luthier to make it playable. Huge L. ESP quality is far better.
That's something inconceivable in a supposedly high end American made guitar at that price point. Happy you could return it
You can always cut a piece out of top of the neck P/U ring to accommodate for the neck. It's purely for cosmetics anyway. But not sure how it would look.
Made it this far....Rob, modify a pickup ring for the neck. It's a dummy anyways so it doesn't need to be structural. Cool video as always
👊
Another great video Rob!!! I'm gonna order your dvd in a couple weeks for my son's birthday. Was wondering if you could personalize it for him? Cheers 🤘🤘
Absolutely man! There's a place when you order, that you can list any special instructions. So just lemme know what you'd like to see, and I'll make it happen! 🤘
I've made it this far! 🤘👊

Puma Socks are the BEST socks. The most comfortable.

I think you should stick a one pickup pickguard on there. Turn it into a Jackson RA600!
Could be cool!
Hi Rob! Love your channel and videos. I wanted to ask what work bench are you using? Thanks!!
Thanks dude! Here ya go... but beware, it's pricey! ultracasellc.com/tech-box/
@@RobArnoldWorld oh damn!! You weren’t kidding!! I want one though. Thanks for sharing
and here I am still reluctantly waiting to replace my 25 year old b.c. rich warlock bridge pickup with replacing the wiring harness as well because its too complex with a tone or volume for each pickup. I bought all the stuff required to do it, even the guitar station gear to help the process but I'm worried about the soldering. I see you got a buddy that does that stuff, very lucky!
Yep! It can be done, and it's a fun project... But if you're not confident, probably best to find a pro to make it happen for ya. Best of luck!🎸

@RobArnoldWorld
Content is great man...keep it up.
Hey Rob, do you have a video showing how you removed the tone knob, moved the volume knob and replaced that pickup with the dummy?
I don't unfortunately. But if you wanted, you could simply tuck the tone knob into the electronics cavity, then move the volume to the tone position, and then plug the newly vacant hole. You could then just disconnect the pickup you don't want to use, and it would then act as a dummy!
I've made it this far!
👊
Still here, finished it.
👊
I didn’t make it that far 😊
By the way, you could put a modified pickup ring on the dummy neck pickup.

Awesome video as always. What scale length would you go with if you got a new signature 24.75 like the RA 600 or a 25.5?
Thanks Jake! Well, I've always thought that I'd stick with 24.75", as it feels very comfortable for me. However, these two new Jacksons I've been playing, the Virtuoso and the green one are both 25.5", and I like the way they play! So, that's a decision I'll have to painfully make if and when the time comes!
@RobArnoldWorld i have guitars in both scales as well and I do agree the soloist plays a lot like your ra 600 bit then I have other 25.5 scale guitars and it seems massive. Maybe it's something with the neck profile idk
Made it this far. Drilling those holes made me nervous lol
👊😝
I want the practice guitar sir☺️
It's served me well over the years!
Have you tried the Jackson Christian olde wolbers or seen them so sick made In Japan single pickup
I have not!

Awesome! Glad to hear my tips are proving helpful! So far, I've noticed no difference between neck thru's and bolt on! I'm cool with either!
@@RobArnoldWorld suuuper tight
What's the name of the song playing on the background at 29:36?
It's "Black As Can Be" by my band, The Elite! Check it out! ruclips.net/video/_hPa-jt8Vxo/видео.html
I’ve made it this far. 😂😂 the pickup ring looks good but my OCD wouldn’t allow me to do it since there’s no space to put one on the neck dummy as well.
👊 I feel you!
Made it this far. When you say let the guitar sit over night, is it in a stand, hanging, or in a case? Might seem like silly science but which works best?
👊 Typically just laying there on the bench, or upright on a stand. Doesn't make a difference in my opinion.
No "noiseless" springs for the Floyd?
Locking tuners, locking nut, new strings, claw adjustment, new whammy bar...you might need to verify your intonation. It sounded a bit off. ...I made it to the end.
👊
Whats your stringjoy gauges?
Nevermind just saw that section
I was an ESP guy like you forever but when I deceided to buy an used MIJ jackson DK2-M , the fist time I take it out of the case ..... I grab the neck and wooooooooooooowwwwwwww !!!! fuck this neck is perfect !!!
Get some 800-1000 grit sandpaper and lightly scuff the M-1000 neck. Just scuff the clear coat a little and there you go, satin.
Interesting! I've wondered about doing that, and how it would turn out... But I've never found the "grit" to give it a try! haha
@@RobArnoldWorld I know, I want to try it too but I’m apprehensive I’ll F it up. I have a few LTDs with satin necks and they’re amazing. I’ve seen some great examples of people taping them off and looking really professional.
I heard people just use steel wool for that.
