This was like a therapy session. What an amazing woman. Knew lots of women like this from the Liverpool area, particularly of her generation. Intelligent, poetic and eloquently spoken and very, very strong.
Shirley Ballas, it was an honour to listen to your life story. Thank you. I love your resilience and work ethic. You keep your promises and the fact you did not have a pot to piss in growing up makes my feel so very strong.
Shirley is simply gorgeous, she isn't staying in her lane, she is slaying in her lane. Her charity work and all the effort She puts in authentically is so admirable. Her entire family must be so proud. I too had a father who although living with us was still not present due to alcoholism, I understand fully how she feels.
I have always loved Shirley….she is the epitome of elegance and has an amazing constitution…..I had no idea of her upbringing, which makes her even more resilient and extremely special. She deserves all her success….and some personal happiness in her twilight years….her sadness she has channelled in the right way…..we never forget loss, but she has become so strong…….i salute you Shirley……RESPECT xxxx
What an excellent episode. Shirley is an absolute icon. She's the personification of resilience and of what can be achieved with hard graft and determination. A moving and entertaining conversation in equal measure. ♥
Refreshing honest interview. Thank you 🙏🏽 I’m not sure how long Strictly will last. Gen z are not super competitive and are simply exhausted by the demands of the current world. We are also living in an era where mental health issues are more the norm… I hope I am wrong…😊
#JAMIELAING Amazing Jamie. I could listen to you both chatting for a few more hours. You should be so proud of yourself and that your communication skills are so wonderful and relatable. Thank you. You must get Shirley on again. Looking forward to your next Great company podcast.
Great company is my favourite podcast full stop. I love the guests (even if I didn't know them before), I love the conversations, and I love the positive energy that is exchanged each and every time. It's totally natural. Good job 👍
I loved this interview l love Shirley and l love Jamie he is so right shirleys life could be a film it would be amazing l love that she and her mother still look after each other it is wonderful,l hope these trolls who gives Shirley a hard time watch this video and leave this genuine lovely woman alone❤x❤x❤
Shirley you are amazing thank you for sharing your life !!! I am going through a bad time in my life after my husband passing away. We danced all our lives which was our whole lives I totally understand where you are coming from. Myself I won every championship for 2 years in the sequence world. Dance is such a good therapy I am waiting to have therapy so glad it works. Thank you again Shirley !!!!
Shirley, thank you so much for sharing your life story up to this moment. I was so inspired by your stoicism. It remanded me of when Rocky tells his son, life... "it ain't about how hard you can hit." it's about a hard you get hit and keep moving forward . Shirley, that it was you did, and because of you, that is what I am going to do.. I am no longer going to play the victim in my life. Thank you again best wishes x
What an incredible interview! I respect the warmeth expressed and the questions asked by Jamie and the vulnerability showed by Shirley in her answers. Thank you both !
Loved this episode ❤ thank you Jamie 🙌🏻 Shirley is an absolute Gem! What a journey! She is such a humble courteous and honest soul. Keeeeeeeeep shining 🌟
Shirley is an amazing woman who’s lived a remarkable life with all the ups & downs what a wonderful human being . She gives so much to charity which is so wonderful , how heartbreaking to hear of her brother passing I can relate to some of that emotion as my best friend took her own life two years ago suddenly . She was the kindest person I’ve ever known & I will always miss her. ❤️
Woah. I'd always appreciated her style and way she conducted herself on the programme and now I think I understand why. Man, she's been down some hard roads....
Dot from Derbyshire Wonderful honest interview, amazing banter from both of you, really enjoyed every minute, thank you to both of you. Have a great Christmas and New year. I wish you everything and more that you wish for yourselves. Lots of love, Dot xxx.
Diane voice and her screaming does my head in she is so full of herself Chris would be interesting love him but diane no her life is not interesting ....sorry dianne
I absolutely love this episode 🙌🏻 I admire Shirley for so many different reasons and the last part was fabulous! Especially the very last sentence, epic! And I’m going to use that lol! 😂 🤦🏼♀️xx💞
I did ballroom dancing in my childhood and watched Shirley dancing in Blackpool for many years. I was in awe of her. I loved too, how her husband of the time used to jump over her head at the start of her jive routine 😊
Thank you for the interview! I used to be a ballroom dancer too but, of course, I never reached the level Ms Ballas did. I remember watching her with both Mr.Stopford and Mr.Ballas on VHS tapes, she was a great inspiration to me and I even copied some of her moves back then :-) At the beginning I also had one pair of dance shoes which cost a bomb and was custom-made in another city. I grew up in a country which was a member of the Soviet block. PS. I also ran from my tram stop late at night, through the park, after the dance class!
So much respect and admiration for Shirley, and as a long time Dance fan of a similar age, so interesting to hear her talk about her time with Sammy Stopford as I remember them dancing together.
All the things Shirley was saying about her childhood were so familiar. My husband left me with two daughters and what she said about him saying he was coming to pick her and her brother up and not turning up, the no cards or presents for Christmas and Birthdays all happened to my girls. Why do men do this to their children. Don’t they realise the damage they do?
Jamie, you're a natural empath. 🙏 for this podcast. Shirley, if you are meant to read this comment you will. Thank you for baring your soul, it takes self awareness and courage. Some moments stood out. Your inner Child suffering the abandonment of your early years, imprinted deeply. Were you aware you can work with her to heal and release the grief? It's called Archetype work. Taking her from the dark corner where she sits, head down on her little knees, offering her your hand and trust, bringing her into a vibrant light space where she feels joy. Bringing her into balance of light/shadow and your adult Self to the place where you are comfortable in your own company. Your Victim will be supporting your Child and your Saboteur supports them both. All comfortable in their shadow element. 17 years of therapy has brought you to this point and enabled you to move through some of the pain you've clearly experienced. The deepest pain is still entrenched. Understanding the why of it is one part of the journey. Having the Self tools to surrender, heal and transmute is where the shift occurs. Step off that bus, take a breath and enjoy the scenery. "You can never judge..." something for all to absorb, to remember instantly when they next form judgement over anything. "When you judge another, you do not define them. You define your-Self" (Wayne Dyer) 🙏🪷❣️
It is true. I grew up without a father. I was bullied at school .my Mother did Not really want me. But I have always worked hard and had an amazing life. I tried marriage once and learnt I ttuly did Not Need a man in my life at all. I have children I love very much being a mom means everything to me. But single for 37 years is one of the Best decision I have Ever made. I truly believe women are better off single. I am almost 70 years old and at peace being single. If I had my time ovér. I would definately have lots of children but I will never Ever Need any man in my life.
I have always said to Women you should go out with either a Chef or a taxi driver. One will pick you up and take you home. The other will bring you Breakfast in Bed.
@GillianThompson-s8d I think the OP was joking? (or you are both dim). Jamie obviously filmed the HF segment at another time - he had different clothes on for a start 😣
I think that is part of his advertising deal for the show just like Dan Wooten show he stops and advertises these different remedies to make people feel better they pay for part of the show if not all of it l could be wrong but it is the only reason l can imagine they let her interupt that interview.
Strictly is primarily a popularity contest. The dancing is incidental because the best dancers do not usually win. The viewers (voters) usually gravitate to the Chris McCauslands of this world because he is at such a huge disadvantage.
No I honestly think the majority of viewers gravitate to people they think have the most genuine hearts e.g Rose, Hamza, Bill, Ellie, Chris, they gravitate towards people they feel a connection with and know have no ill intention
This was like a therapy session. What an amazing woman. Knew lots of women like this from the Liverpool area, particularly of her generation. Intelligent, poetic and eloquently spoken and very, very strong.

Shirley, thank you so much for sharing your life story up to this moment. I was so inspired by your stoicism. It remanded me of when Rocky tells his son, life... The part about being in a single parent household and having school dinners hit 😢
Absolutely amazing episode. Wow Shirley ....... What an amazing life story. And Jamie you shine as an interviewer!!

Wow the first 9 minutes is basically my life experience so (apart from the husbands)
On my Coffin it will read " sorry No Shopping today, No Newspapers either probably none tomorrow either."
I have always said to Women you should go out with either a Chef or a taxi driver. One will pick you up and take you home. The other will bring you Breakfast in Bed.
How can he have forgotten the year he was on it! 2020 not 2021🤣
You can be in Lust Not in Love
This is someone clearly not healed. Some therapist!
I have been in Lust once but it was not with my husband
The reason she doesn’t do well in relationships is because she is so in love with herself!
That was so rude, butting in with hello fresh! Disgusting!
Agreed - completely spoilt the tone of the interview. How crass
Wow, I had the exact opposite reaction. Taking advantage of/enjoying the moment... Doing advertising in a more natural way !
@GillianThompson-s8d
I think the OP was joking? (or you are both dim). Jamie obviously filmed the HF segment at another time - he had different clothes on for a start 😣

It's a pre-recorded segment. They didn't interrupt the interview. It will have been inserted afterwards.
The hello fresh was weirdly placed mid conversation didn’t enjoy that
Why is her name still Ballas?! when this is the name of of ex (of many years ago). She needs to put it away 🦋
They were married for over 20 years, she had her biggest professional success with him and it's the name of her son and grandson.
