She just holds the audience in the palm of her hand. Such charisma, performance and artistry, plus you really get the sense that she loves what she's doing. And of course, perfect execution..
The way she presents herself is amazing! She had a gift! Her smile makes me smile. I wish gymnastics was still like this. Her tumbling is so interesting and done so cleanly.
I come back to this again and again. The choreography, her musicality and expression and the difficulty for the era make this one for the ages. The Soviets actually listened to their music.
i love how her choreo flows so well into each move... the dance into the tumbling, it's so different now. the dance nowadays looks like a task not like a part of the routine.
Oksana and also Nadia Comaneci are the most graceful gymnasts ever ❤ but until about 2002 many gymnasts had this beautiful balletic style.. things changed a lot... it's sad that such a pretty sport turned into raw explosive power
The "cutesy little girl" bits were the best part! They work them hard enough to be depressed as mine workers, sure, but she is a young girl. To me this routine captures the spirit of gymnastics- as close as possible to flying like a bird. A routine with dancing like that would be a reward for all the hard work. And LMA629- since it's hard to sing for joy and tumble simultaneously, the music provided exactly what was missing.
This happened before I was born and it still brings tears to me eyes to see her reaction to her score. Of all the clips of gymnastics I have I think I have most of Oksana. Along with Severino she is my favorite gymnast of all time.
Omelianchik combined grace, power and agility in her routine. You rarely see all three in gymnasts today. If you take away the amazing tumbling passes you would still be in awe of her execution - toes always pointed, shoulders always square, head always held high. Gymnasts now may have more powerful tumbling but have hunched shoulders and unpointed toes especially when they run to do their tumbling passes.
Because she finished 8th at the '88 USSR Cup, which served as Olympic trials, she was, we might say, fucking unlucky, because her handgrip broke during her bars routine, causing her to fall off. Such a shame...
This was brilliant. I actually enjoyed watching this, as opposed to today's floor exercises where the entire point is to squirm your way into the corners where you can do flips from as many times as possible.
I like this routine - she seems like she's having fun. And to PaigeChapman6, what do you find unnecessary and repulsive about this routine then? Come on, TELL US. I'm no gymnast but I'd like to see you do that lol!!
It would be more badass if 0:55-1:05 was saved for last. Still, this is the best & most beautiful floor performance i've seen. I would say very magnificent.
Seriously! How can a floor routine even be "unnecessary"? The comment you replied to is obviously unintelligent and uninformed. Omelianchik was one of the best floor-workers, along with Silivas, Mostepanova, and other beauties like Shushunova and Ilienko.
She did make the olympics but she was a substitute, and in the following Olimpics, when she was able to go and compete the URSS comitee anounced she was retiring without ever telling her so she quitted and moves to the USA to train other gymnasts.
@AngelicPhantom Just knowing how the soviet system was...I was so happy for her too..thats a though system and they have been working so hard for their entire lives..its so amazing.
This when they actually cared about producing "artistic" gymnastics but sorry to say we Americans hijacked the sport and turned it into what it is today....CRAP! Go USA!
Do you prefer Shawn Johnson's or Cheng Fei's? Clearly you have no appreciation for artistry, nor groundbreaking gymnastics. This is widely known as one of the best floor routines of all time for combining difficulty (at the time) with beautiful dance and charming style.
You have to remember these girls were under very strict diets and workout regimens. Ever watch 'are you going to the ball?' Groshkova and her teammates are eating a bowl of soup and - like - half a slice of bread for dinner, then they start to fantasize about being allowed to eat ice cream and pie. Europeans in general tend to weigh less than us bc of all the crap food companies are putting in to our food.
She had done badly at the '87 Worlds, and during the '88 USSR Cup (which served as Olympic trials) she fell off bars because her handgrip tore off so she finished 8th AA. She actually went to the Olympics as Soviet alternate
clearly she is an amazing gymnast with beautiful dance and original tumbling. However, I find the "little girl" choreography in parts of it to be too "cutesy". I also felt that she should have received a deduction for the pause after the final piked double back into a handspring.
Why would anyone use anabola for gymnastics? Large chunks of unusable tissue is pretty useless in this sport don't you think? Doping for gymnastics would be stuff like (pseudo)ephedrine or methylphenidate, which makes you skinny as fuck. If someone has proper muscle mass for the exercise they perform, obviously they've been working out properly. Anabola does not enhance your muscle strength as much as your appearance (makes you look buff). Ergo: Skinny=Most likely doping Buff= -"- worked out.
she stepped out of the full in double pike, there should have been a landing deduction. This is why the old scoring system wasn't fair, most perfect 10s awarded had very visible errors.
The abolishment of the perfect 10 destroyed the chance of seeing greatness like this ever again. Now we get arm waving from Russia and Romania and tumbling robots from the USA. Frankly, the originality that Omelianchick showed in her last two tumbles here is more interesting and exciting than all of Biles's double backs combined. And don't even get me started on the artistry.
@@daisy8284 she was the Soviet alternate at the '84 Olomouc "Alternate" Games, so she would probably have been the Olympic alternate had they competed in L.A
She just holds the audience in the palm of her hand. Such charisma, performance and artistry, plus you really get the sense that she loves what she's doing.

Best floor routine ever. So many wonderful ones throughout the years, but this is a cut above all the others.
The way she presents herself is amazing! She had a gift! Her smile makes me smile. I wish gymnastics was still like this. Her tumbling is so interesting and done so cleanly.
This routine never gets old
いつまでも保存していただきたい素晴らしい演技です。爽やかな雰囲気に魅了されます。
I really dont care if she took 1, 2 or a thousand steps. Look at this floor, it's just the most fluid, artistic and beautiful one you will ever see.
+Arthur Oliveira I fullheartedly agree!
+Arthur Oliveira I AGREE💯👌
Every "artistic gymnast" of today could take some notes, especially the Brits and the Americans.
I come back to this again and again. The choreography, her musicality and expression and the difficulty for the era make this one for the ages. The Soviets actually listened to their music.
I agree, she's the best on the floor.
Nobody does joined up tumble runs like Omelianchek, Shushunova and Silivas did then...Still so difficult and the floor wasn't so springy either.
i love how her choreo flows so well into each move... the dance into the tumbling, it's so different now. the dance nowadays looks like a task not like a part of the routine.
This is one of the most beautiful FX I have seen!!!
most well deserved 10.00 in the history of gymnastics.

@@mayrios5277 And kinda boring to watch now.

Don't ask me why but I can't stop watching this amazing routine 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Erin Yurchenko Are you related nataila yurechenko lol
This happened before I was born and it still brings tears to me eyes to see her reaction to her score.
Of all the clips of gymnastics I have I think I have most of Oksana. Along with Severino she is my favorite gymnast of all time.
This is amazing...I prefer watching routines like these than now...it was fun to watch the gymnast is having fun and the crowd shows it. Its awesome
Wow this is beautiful! Much better and more entertaining than todays floor exercises.
You forget she was competing with this routine. It was such a performance. Her smile ALWAYS seemed so genuine and never choreographed or forced.
one dislike from someone jealous because their favorite gymnast can not do something like this.
I know, like 1 dislike compared to the 366 likes.

Her dance was exquisite. Her posture was just amazing.
This just makes me want to cry considering what floor routines are today.
the Olga Korbut of the 80’s. youthful, girlish charm. she had it all
One of my all time favorite routines
Would love to see again coreagraphies like this one. Really artistic ones not just leaps and tumbling pases!!!
Don't forget the arm waving
Ever seen a smile so in any sporting that has won a competition!
To see this gymnast transmits a great joy.
Beautiful choreography and beautifully executed.
incredible!
I will always be obsessed with this routine
she's always a playful little bird in my heart.
THIS "LIL GIRL" WAS COMPLETE "POETRY IN MOTION"🤸🥇🏆😇
She is the most adorable thing I've ever seen in the entire world!
anyone notice her toes are pointed all through the second pass
Because she finished 8th at the '88 USSR Cup, which served as Olympic trials, she was, we might say, fucking unlucky, because her handgrip broke during her bars routine, causing her to fall off. Such a shame...
Mi Admiración para esta grandiosa Gimnasta, Okasana Omelianchik, por siempre Grandiosa ✨🌹✨👏👏👏👏🌹👏👏👏👏👌👍
0:57 was the moment when audiences started loving her forever...
OKSANA!😍😍😍😍
This was brilliant. I actually enjoyed watching this, as opposed to today's floor exercises where the entire point is to squirm your way into the corners where you can do flips from as many times as possible.
that third pass... because one tumbling run is never enough :O
PERFECTION !!
Omelianchik was Korbut's spiritual daughter :-)
i felt the same
exercise performed with a perfection which leaves joyful ecstasy
Gymnasts don't do these moves anymore. She was amazing and a treat to watch.
Браво, Оксана!!!!!
Just fabulous!
AWESOME 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💯
what a contrast to the brute power of simon biles
この時代の女子体操に戻って欲しいです‼️
so perfect!!!
She is the only gymnast that could make that routine look like that!
beautiful

Excelente estas Gimnastas si eran las Reinas de la Gimnasia Artistica
absolutely beautiful, though gymnastics has evolved and i think if a floor routine like this was performed today people would heavily criticize it
Indeed it is-this is legendary in the sport. And those commentators really almost ruin it-one is forced to tune them out.
PRETTY

Also there were food shortages at that time too, for the population..Gorbachev only came to power that year.

the backhandspring thing that she does and spins in the middle , whats that called?
No fue Barcelona fue Soul 88, Barcelona fue 92.
She's amazing. How come she didn't go to the Olympics?
She had done badly at the '87 Worlds, and during the '88 USSR Cup (which served as Olympic trials) she fell off bars because her handgrip tore off so she finished 8th AA. She actually went to the Olympics as Soviet alternate
anybody know the music?
WHY THE FUCK DIDNT SHE MAKE THE OLYMPICS
The commentators talked too much.

Damn!!!....she has some big ears!
How is this a 10? What about the leg separation in her full in pike? Also, very low chest on the dismount.
Do you know how hard the floor was
not 10.00
she stepped out of the full in double pike, there should have been a landing deduction. This is why the old scoring system wasn't fair, most perfect 10s awarded had very visible errors.
skitzo429 errors??? what about the artistic part ? the choreography?
+skitzo429 you were allowed to lunge out of a tumbling pass it wasn't a deduction
non of those "errors" were deduction in the 80's genius.
The lunge was allowed back then but the piked full-in looked a liitle under-rotated.
The abolishment of the perfect 10 destroyed the chance of seeing greatness like this ever again. Now we get arm waving from Russia and Romania and tumbling robots from the USA.

Nice but a 10? That first pass...
This routine did not deserve a 10... that first pass was clearly short.
It's impressive, but if you dried her up, chopped her into powder and snorted her you would probably get high from all the doping she's been doing.
She was actually alternate to both the 84 and 88 Olympic teams.
Hmm that doesn't make sense because Russia actually boycotted the 84 olympics. No teams, no alternates, didn't participate at all.
@@daisy8284 she was the Soviet alternate at the '84 Olomouc "Alternate" Games, so she would probably have been the Olympic alternate had they competed in L.A
