Hi! I used to play a lot with Rpg Maker XP and i felt like doing it again and found myself with MZ now and wow the quality of life has improved so much! loved the tutorial. Thank you!
Glad someone else messes with the edges of carpets. They look really weird if you don't. And how great to be able to change your walls or floors without having to re-do everything on top of it. What a time saver (as would be getting it right the first go, but that's never going to happen!).
This was a great tutorial on mapping and the layers! I am very new and MZ is my first RPG Maker software. I am watching tutorial series to learn and yours are fantastic! Both you and Drifty go at a great pace and explain everything very well. I have already watched a few of the videos out of order so I know that I will learn a lot from this series. Thanks again!
What thing are you talking about? I know just everything about XP. What XP does best is to enable fogs on maps. XP is also the only version where you can re-color the sprites on the map rather than having to use another character sheet. XP is also the only version that makes it easy to have larger sprites. I think XP is even the only version where enemies will have the "status effect" animations as opposed to only the player.
Mmm I do like that new layer system! I just been making a game on vx ace, and if you got the wrong floor on a map it is back to the start in order to fix it!! This will save so much time! Love the easy to understand tutorial! First time I've ever seen shift clicking explained.
I originally thought, "eh, I know enough about mapping in MV to skip this tutorial," but I always learn something new about RPGMaker when I watch Drifty and T! For instance, I had no idea about those counter tiles. I've just been putting the shopkeeper event on the table between the player and the actual shopkeeper sprite. Great video, can't wait to actually start playing around in MZ!
Hey so at 7:55 to 08:00 u go from having limited build options to suddenly a lot more including the black u use. how u do that i am stuck with the limited stuff.
@@TallTown_Stories Yeah, the tileset viewer doesn't update until you close the map settings window, I set the tileset to inside earlier in the tutorial, it just hadn't updated yet.
The art in 2k/2k3/XP were so much better. I really dislike the RTP tilesets os these new RPGM. No charisma, no identity... And is used and reused so many times, I can even play any game which uses the default RTP tilesets. I'm thinking in turning all of them in something more pixelated, bringing some old school charm at least. Also, the add-ons sold in store goes into same bag. Where are the amazing pixel-art creators who make high quality sprites like the level seen in Chrono Trigger, Seikendesetsu or Tales of Phantasia? Or even simple-style like the MOOP, 2017 game, which have amazing and clean pixel-art.
Word of warning... MZ might be different, but in MV, if you do not set up the "Display Name" in "Map Properties", the "Name" will be used instead. Also... why can't there be an "erase" button that would do the function of the empty tile? =(
@@kylecaudill9261 no, but I love it. gluck hope ya found out that it already did import if its in the correct folder in the project: img>tilesets and you need to either swap in your tiles in the appropriate slot in one of the premade tilesets, in Database menu's tilesets tab or change the maximum tilesets there and mix n match what you need.
How many maps could be hold in the RM MZ for now? MV had the limit of 999 and I can't find any information about the limits of the database of MZ - someone might know? Thanks already
Are the counter tiles editable? You mentioned they behave in a special manner (I LOVE THEM) but will editing them mess with that or is it the position on the tile that dictates which ones behave that way?
You can make any position on the tileset a counter tile and you can turn it off of any position it's already on if you go to the tilesets tab in the database. That's something we will be going over soon. This time I was just referring to the setup you will get by default out of the box.
@@teasjams6895 Thank you! I'm chomping at the bit waiting for MZ to drop and game plotting in my head =} It's these little features that I'm really looking forward to!! Thank you guys for all of the hard work and preemptive tutorials
Great tutorial, I had a question that maybe you can answer. Are you able to easily copy and paste the map from editor easily into a an editing software, such Photoshop or GIMP and then use it as a base for a parallax map and then still have it line up with tiles upon import?.
I do believe you can export the maps at 100% true to size. Take it with a grain of salt, as I don't have it in front of me right now, but I'm pretty positive.
hi i want to ask you about the “invisible wall” (idk what its called) when i created outsider map, i put the tree from A tileset, but the tree is not blocking it so my character go through of it, how to put the “invisible wall” on the tree?
I really wish they would've changed the art style to something more like XP. These tiles have been reused so many times it doesn't matter how much new stuff the editor does I'm just not interested in purchasing it.
At first i thought something is wrong with my earphone until i noticed, that your voice is almost only coming from the right :o its kinda hard to listen to :(
Sorry about that, audio has always been a challenge to get right, and to this day I find myself unhappy with everything I produce. Thanks for bearing with me through it.
I LOVE layers!!!!! I also love parallax maps too, cuz pretty. custom/tweaked maps are, when you get them to look just right, chef's kiss!

Ngl I love the tileset just like XP when I was messing around with it when I was 6
Why don't they create buttons for layers directly onto the hud bar just like how they did with XP?

Amazing and useful as usual, thanks :)
please upload more video like this. Im a Beginner
Great tutorial, thank you very much :)
two days left!
The layering mapping is the main reason I WANT MZ! Idk why they got rid of it after XP...
Great Job Tea! :)
Great Job! btw you did not "missed a couple" - the 2 edges on the carpet you addet at the end 18:46 have to be without the pattern :P
Why does MV not have manual layer controls? That seems like such an obvious feature to include, there automatic system is so limiting...
could you give us the example of modern assets on mz? the next video maybe?
I've an issue. When I exit from the building, the music is still on. How I limit the music to the internal of the builing?

why my character won't move when in playtest??
it's just turn and can't move at all,
i'am sure i use passability tiles but no luck :/

I'm having a ton of issues importing dlc content. RPG maker is not noob friendly, thats for sure.
