Thanks for the video Paul. I bought the similar unit, MFJ-9232, about 6 months ago and didn't seem to have much success with it. Having just received a new X6100 this morning in preparation for a trip to Australia next month, I may just have to get the MFJ-9232 out again and just be a little more persistant. Cheers ZL2VTH
Hey Phil, I bought the same product with the BNC connector. I couldn't tune it at all. I opened it up and found that one of the capacitors was not connected, and not only that, the wire was too short to just solder it. So I sent it back to MFJ and they sent me the 9234 which is a sturdier build. Open yours up to ensure that all the wires and capacitors are well connected. I hope to get you on the air someday. 73
Cool... had no idea you could make a loop antenna that simply. The mag loops that I'd seen on channels generally seemed to be much bulkier (often having an inner loop and an outer loop). I hope you have good success on the road!
Hi Jeremy. I love the G90 and the extra ten watts is surprisingly helpful, especially when the bands are rough. My issue with the G90 is that it is a heavy radio (not the best for backpacking), without a sound card, and requires external power. The closest thing to the perfect radio in my mind for the price is IC705, but even then, with its size why couldn't they put an internal tuner in there, and why is their SWR tester so clunky. It would seem that a few operators like you and I could design a portable radio to our specs and be the perfect radio for us. LOL. Thanks for the question.
Looking good, Paul. Thanks for the video! - AC3Q

RF is magical. I have an Alex Loop and this may not be as efficient, but it does work.
do you know what the circuit consists of inside the mfj 9234?

Amazingly, it's just two tuning capacitors.
Great video Paul! I’m curious what you think about the g90 vs the x6100? Is the extra 10w helpful on the g90? I really like the display on the 6100.

@@K2PMD I agree with everything you said! If only the 705 had an internal tuner!!
