Would you believe these guys made the video in their apartment, used a closet to record and the kitchen counter for the editing...and spent only $400 for props and equipment. it was sent out for final editing and mixing. AND...it won them their first Grammy ( they have 3 now and a nomination for a fourth).
No. I wish this story would stop getting the telephone treatment. It was not edited by Pentatonix, let alone on the counter. Early couch videos were, not the professional videos. The studio space fell through so the *professional recording company* Fifgen Films shot the video in Avi's kitchen. This was the fifth video Fifgen had done for PTX. strobist.blogspot.com/2013/11/pentatonix-daft-punk-video-low-budget.html "'We originally had a different plan for the video, but at the last minute our location fell through,' Bates [of Fifgen] said. "So at last minute they did something that has become the trademark for the young indie film house. They called an audible. They decided to shoot the video indoors, essentially in a black phone booth. "'We've gotten used to that. We are a pretty young company. All of us are young in age and experience,' said Bates. "'We're pretty used to the whole smash and grab style,' he said. 'We use the resources we hav… well, we don't really have any resources. We're always trying to invent ways to do cool new things.' "'We went out an bought black sheets and hung them in the room and covered the ceiling.,' Bates said. 'We made a 'black box' that was about 20 square feet - if that. And we shot that entire video in that little space in one of their apartments.'"
Thanks for reacting to this fun Pentatonix medley of 7 songs by the band (duo) Daft Punk. I could hear the video clearly but I could barely hear what the two of you were saying when speaking.
I believe you both would enjoy the Evolution of Music video from them. It is amazing. Starts with 11th century music. Keep listening to Pentatonix and I will be back. Like Tammy said, we love watching people fall in love with them!
Watch now the private performance of this song where there's no microphones or studio mixing. It's just them and they sound no different except quieter as there's no microphones.
