While being able to grind more easily isn't a bad thing I often find myself missing the sense of accomplishment in nowadays game
If Big Pineapple released without the Diablo name it would have flopped financially. It was generic as all hell and the only saving grace it had was "smooth gameplay". EHhhHHhhhHHhh Gameplay-wise, sure. D2 improves upon D1 in pretty much every gameplay aspect. Theming-wise, you can kinda see why D3 is the way it is because it tried to imitate D2 badly. D2 broke from the completely dark, brooding and oppressive atmosphere to give a little more variety, and it did that well but consequently it's a very different experience from 1 and it's up to personal preference on whether you prefer D2 to D1 in that regard. I personally like D1's atmosphere a little better.

diablo 1 is still so great once you get used to its slower pace. ive almost put 100h into it since it rereleased on GoG and every minute of it was a blast!! i would still play it over diablo 3 any day of the week
7:35 "Seeriously though why has every ARPG devolved into a mess like this? I can't tell wtf is even happening here." The answer to that is Diablo 2. Where Diablo 1 had a slow, deliberate pace where every step you took was strategic and mattered, in Diablo 2 you're just jojoing back and forth and running circles around monster packs.
True! D2 probably began the trend. But everytime I watch a modern ARPG like poe I'm just in awe because screens are getting cleared in instants. Pretty crazy evolution.
I still enjoy D1 for what it is way more than D2, but I'll just pretend I didn't hear the intro or read the title and say 'hey, it's a good video, keep it ut :3'
lol rating diablo 2 higher then path of exil xD ? Poe is just a flat out better d2 . D3 and Poe are simply better games then the other two garbage games
In Diablo 2 I have an amazingly fun time (each moment there aren't connection issues to make it fair) and in 3 I had fun, but had forgotten all about 1 and 2 since I was young when I played them, and after going back to 2, then trying 3 it just didn't work. Not to mention how easily you can break d3 and do septillions of damage from a couple items given to you by higher players (literally septillions of damage not exaggerating). Despite having played diablo 1 only about 25 hours in my life it was the game that sucked me in the most. Every dialog and story interaction was perfectly done especially the voice acting. In town you felt like you were standing on one safe big rock surrounded by hellfire and demons and the game was hard to the point of unforgiving especially early on. So I guess diablo 2 is the winner unless I actually manage to get through diablo 1 and remember it. Idk about hellfire expansion but like the bigger inventory.
I think it is worth mentioning that D3 is a very different game now than it was at launch. At launch a lot of the enemies had a lot more flair and personality. Remember Inferno difficulty? Remember Lacunies in Act 2 Inferno? Remember Skull Cleavers? Yeah, you used to be scared of these things! With the RoS expansion they streamlined the whole experience way too much. Every enemy became the same but reskinned enemy, dealing the same amount of damage mostly the same way, but with a different color splash. Every map is the same map but reskinned, because there's no landmarks anywhere in adventure mode. They ironed out ALL the little quirks the game had, which made playing the game more convenient, but ultimately made it boring outside of GR pushing. All this because WoW players and stupid journalists were crying about "endgame". D2 didn't really have endgame either, especially vanilla. You killed Diablo on Hell and that was the "endgame". It ended. You're done. Unless you feel like farming more items.
Yes kinda. I'm pretty sure you can get it on GOG and it's one of those games that is compatible with windows 10 if you have the disk still. It's very finnicky though.
Anyone knows the name of the song playing at 7:50? Sounds really familiar, perhaps from a game OST.. Amazing video Seer!! Update: just found out, it's "Neighborhood 6" from The Sims 1 OST :) very nostalgic !
Diablo I is awesome. I just love the way a single dungeon does make the game feel complete. I wish we had the warrior class back, with the spellcasting, albeit limited, and all. I know you can have decent substitutes with the paladin or Druid in D2 or the crusader in D3, But...
I have Gamer LORE Dash for dialog and lore, I have MrLama for Statistics and Mechanics, I have Rhykerr for news and Analysis... And now I have Seer for comedy. I know you probably wont do Diablo content forever, but Sanctuary really needed a laugh... thanks for the awesome videos man! I love the direction, you're doing a fantastic job.
Love how fluid the combat in D3 is, truly do. Sadly it evolved to a point where speed is everything and monster are blending together and their type doesn't matter anymore. Sadly the issue is that going slower afterwards doesn't feel good. That's my biggest fear for D4.
I think its about the overall package D3 wouldn‘t work if it was slower D1&2 wouldn‘t work if they were faster I rather have gameplay where I feel engaged and rewarded than being the Boss of all Bosses just as long as I keep all my Skills up 24/7 And if I don‘t I die in the same second from the most random mob
@@user-ik2zr1cx1u Well, it's true that even D2 authors kind of regret the walk/run mechanic if you hear them talking about it nowadays :-D On the other hand it adds an unique layer and sometimes can make the game more challenging and fun :) ... and then you're trying to find the damn cave in otherwise cleared map and stamina Is The Worst! :-D
@@_Tomon People don't like the stamina mechanic because it becomes irrelevant around inferno since it's related to vitality, wich you will raise very often. By hell you won't even think about stam.
PoE is even worse with "speed meta", it's all about blowing through screens of trash mobs with 1 click. -I miss the days where you had to calculate whether you should enter a room or not and then which targets to prioritize. I don't think we'll ever see it happen again.

I looked it up and it seems like the Big Pineapple thing was just some reselling site trying to get around the content ban in China. Anyone else got anything more concrete on that? I'm dead curious.
honestly the plot of Big Pineapple(D3) could've revolve around how the world-stone being destroyed affected the world, new monsters are created through the corrupted energy that burst from it's "destruction" while monsters that exist prior become something even more terrifying, mutating into more grotesque forms becoming intelligent and enacting terror, hate and destruction on all of creation thus making it so that the Prime Evils are able to manipulate the tides against good and humans even though they are back in hell edit: to go even further beyond, with the destruction of the world-stone not only did it release corrupted energy but also released all kinds of powers because of Tyraels magic mixing with it which then humans can use to fight back thus more classes are born
I remember D3 being really hard during some parts, specifically some bosses, but then i remember how ''inferno'' hell or whatever it was called, was so insanely hard people cried and blizzard nerfed it. I liked the idea of a difficulty so hard even completing it is a feat on its own. Years later i relaunch it, and kinda like with WoW, in true blizzard fashion, they redesigned the difficulty and made the game completely unchallenging so people can get to the end game content quicker, so its a snoozefest for anyone that would decide to pick it up now.
I agree, I think they needed to keep a well defined difficulty concept. I can't stand a game that is so easy I don't need to think about anything at all, and I hope Blizz (and the whole gaming industry tbh) can go against this new concept of accessibility all the time. Just makes it more memorable if there's some insane aspect making it harder.
Doom Eternal did a good job of listening to a few people bitch about the difficulty and responded with an expansion pack set on "pinecone suppository". The devs stuck to their guns. The game is really hard on the hardest difficulty. Deal. With. It. That is the entire point of cranking up the challenge level.
I just wish we could get past the "my pants have the biggest numbers QED the boss fight is solve" game design I find all over the place. At least D2 had many many other aspects of a character you could adapt...pick up skills from other classes, modify skills with pierce, things like that.
7:36 In regards to the text on the screen, I’m super glad I’m not the only one that feels this way. I hate this crap in ARPGs where top level gameplay devolves into the screen being filled with lasers and projectiles and bright lights, and all I can think of when seeing it is “What is even happening right now?” I just don’t see it as action, it’s just a light show.
Diablo 3 Is a Isometric Musou. Kill infinite hordes of shit and feel like a invencible guy, is just stupid. Diablo 2 have a lot of hordes to kill but don't feel like that, because you have to "think" how you need to approach an horde of monster and not being chewed and spilled by them. I Think Dark Souls is a worthy successor of Diablo 1, only put an RnG GEnerator in Dark Souls and is Diablo in 3D.
@@janvandenhooren9397 Reason is because before you get to that godlike state in D2 there is a struggle and you will need to grind and study the game, Therr are deaths, Failures, and decisions need to be done you know the feeling of playing a video game and interacting into it and also you will die alooooot.. But in D3 nope.. Everything is handed to you. Your set, Legendary in the fcking beginning of the game. (Leoric's Crown? That makes you a fcking god the whole story), Your build choice is just an option rather a decision, you can literally obliterate a room pretty early on for some reason. I started the series with Diablo 3 and had never played the other games and I absolutely loved every moment of it. I have played the game so extensively it might be my most played game ever. I loved the huge variety of builds, the gear that could change your playstyle completely and that utter rush of adrenaline when you get your first legendary, then set item, then your first full set. I did however, recognise that I might be biased because I hadn't played the others, so I didn't really participate in these discussions. However, I am now playing through Diablo 2 resurected. Now don't get me wrong it is an amazing game, one that I am loving playing through. It also has great atmosphere, really making me feel threatened. However the gameplay is soooo bland, with very very little variety in what you can do. This is stunted even more by the leveling system, because you can only repec 3 times. I despise this as it means I can not try out new and different builds. It means I have to be so damn careful about every single point i spend and that I have to follow guides on how to build my character so I don't end up with a failed run and have to restart. Diablo 3 let you try new builds whenever you want, sometimes single items would make you want to change skills completely just to use this new found power. And yet in Diablo 2 I find myself mashing 1 button over and over and over. I definitely feel that the "Diablo 3 sucks old game better" bandwagon is way too full and that D3 gets way too much hate. It is not perfect, and can get very grindy in the later levels, but I think overall is a much better experience.
The diablo creator wanted it to be hardcore, like... if you die just delete the character b.c you cant play it ever again hardcore. So my biggest annoyance in d3 is the respec at will
@@roymcdre9180 but there is a mode for that literally called hardcore. I love playing that, it gives a great sense of fear, but for that mode especially, having a skill system that punishes you for experimenting feels wrong
Fair points, and it's interesting to hear a perspective where someone started with d3 and moved backwards. I think that illuminates the fact that we tend to like what we're first exposed to in a series more than subsequent titles. If I try to imagine both games unrelated to one another, I do prefer older designs in terms of punishment for decisions, but only to an extent. I think decision making should thoroughly matter in a rpg, and that kind of stuff isn't nearly as present in d3.
@@seer6251 that's fair. I think nostalgia has a big influence as well. I remember absolutely loving Borderlands 1 and 2 cause I played them with my dad when I was younger, but then borderlands 3 which had all the improvements I had dreamed about getting came out, but I didn't enjoy it at all. It tends of the consequences of decisions, maybe that's a personal preference of mine for them to not be too serious cause it makes me think too hard. I play DnD in real life and I spend hours agonising over skill choices and gear haha

One thing I liked about D3 was just the gameplay in regards to fighting monsters... just felt really good and very responsive. But Diablo 1 had that "crap your pants" element that puts it over D3.
No doubt D3 has the smoothest, and probably most complex, combat. By "crap your pants" I'm guessing you meant the atmosphere but there are still heart attack moments in D2 and D3 -if you play hardcore.
@@LongToad in d2 it's everytime you come across a stygian doll with a buff.
What I loved about Diablo I is the sense of accomplishment. What you achieved, what you killed? It was done and stayed that way. You truly felt like progressing the game and clearing it fully.
There could be a better New Game+ option but we still got it nonetheless and I just loved it.
While being able to grind more easily isn't a bad thing I often find myself missing the sense of accomplishment in nowadays game
If Big Pineapple released without the Diablo name it would have flopped financially. It was generic as all hell and the only saving grace it had was "smooth gameplay". Where as the original Diablo is a genuine classic that pioneered many mechanics still widely used today. So it came to no surprise to learn your take on this. Great video.

@@JesterWhoHelps Really? While I agree that it is a far cry from the originals I still felt that Doom 2016 & Eternal are still good games in their own right. Sure I bet the Doom name helped but I would certainly rate them higher then Big Pineapple.

Diablo II is Diablo I perfected.
EHhhHHhhhHHhh
Gameplay-wise, sure.
Seer’s videos are always a kick to the balls in a metaphorically good way

Congratulations on 10k, I can't wait to see more content on this channel.

I thought Diablo 1 was better than Diablo 2 in many ways.
Is Diablo 1 available on windows 10?
Yes kinda. I'm pretty sure you can get it on GOG and it's one of those games that is compatible with windows 10 if you have the disk still. It's very finnicky though.

Love how fluid the combat in D3 is, truly do. Sadly it evolved to a point where speed is everything and monster are blending together and their type doesn't matter anymore.
Sadly the issue is that going slower afterwards doesn't feel good.
That's my biggest fear for D4.
I think its about the overall package
D3 wouldn‘t work if it was slower
D1&2 wouldn‘t work if they were faster
I rather have gameplay where I feel engaged and rewarded than being the Boss of all Bosses just as long as I keep all my Skills up 24/7 And if I don‘t I die in the same second from the most random mob
@@user-ik2zr1cx1u Well, it's true that even D2 authors kind of regret the walk/run mechanic if you hear them talking about it nowadays :-D

Just found your channel, your content is great and humor is fuckin great. Subbed!!
Tbh what is that pfp from????
LOL it's Tiny from Clayfighter. Classic series
honestly the plot of Big Pineapple(D3) could've revolve around how the world-stone being destroyed affected the world, new monsters are created through the corrupted energy that burst from it's "destruction" while monsters that exist prior become something even more terrifying, mutating into more grotesque forms becoming intelligent and enacting terror, hate and destruction on all of creation thus making it so that the Prime Evils are able to manipulate the tides against good and humans even though they are back in hell
edit: to go even further beyond, with the destruction of the world-stone not only did it release corrupted energy but also released all kinds of powers because of Tyraels magic mixing with it which then humans can use to fight back thus more classes are born
this channel is such a hidden gem

Seer out here releasing yet another certified hood classic
Lol good video bro!
Thank you very much!

7:36 In regards to the text on the screen, I’m super glad I’m not the only one that feels this way. I hate this crap in ARPGs where top level gameplay devolves into the screen being filled with lasers and projectiles and bright lights, and all I can think of when seeing it is “What is even happening right now?”
I just don’t see it as action, it’s just a light show.
Awesome dude! I was really curious what direction you were going to go after the "best class in D2" series. Keep it up!
"You can only walk like you've recently shat your pants, which is fair given the circumstances." Lmaooo
I Think Dark Souls is a worthy successor of Diablo 1, only put an RnG GEnerator in Dark Souls and is Diablo in 3D.
if you enjoy the game thats fine, but the scope of game design suggested by your comment is as narrow as it gets.
@@janvandenhooren9397 was meant for op, i agree with you
@@janvandenhooren9397 Reason is because before you get to that godlike state in D2 there is a struggle and you will need to grind and study the game, Therr are deaths, Failures, and decisions need to be done you know the feeling of playing a video game and interacting into it and also you will die alooooot..
But in D3 nope.. Everything is handed to you. Your set, Legendary in the fcking beginning of the game. (Leoric's Crown? That makes you a fcking god the whole story), Your build choice is just an option rather a decision, you can literally obliterate a room pretty early on for some reason. Love the content my man. Love the voice and love the style
Thank you very much! 🙏
I love the banjo kazooie music in the background

Chris Metzen wrote the story for D3 (NOT D2), SC, SC2, WC2, WC3, and WoW, and had been Blizzard's basically lead writer for everything for like 10 years before his departure. coincidence that the SC universe, WC universe, and Diablo universe are basically the same overarching story beat-for-beat? i think not

D3 was a good social game but as soon as my friend stopped playing, so did I. D2 Is like a warm blanket of bees, there is always an element of danger but it's still comfy.
Also itemization should have been a category. The feeling of being able to equip nearly any item that drops just to "fuck around and find out" makes failure always an option. Just like life.
I think you make good points, especially that I should've discussed itemization. Actually blows my mind I didn't lol, absolutely would've illustrated a large design difference between both games. For these older videos, I constantly see places where I would've done things a little better, lol. But if it means anything for your channel aspirations, I think you have all the tools you need to begin, you just have to have an idea you want to pursue and run with it. You'll probably be alone with your videos/thoughts for some time, unless you're very lucky, but if you can cultivate any kind of audience, you can climb as far as you want. For awhile I had next to no viewers with a bunch of scripts for videos that I wasn't making, and now it's easy to look back and see that it was totally worth it to keep going. So, don't feel too worried about starting, when you're ready, just go for it!
