The mini map is nice to pay attention to but it’s not the most important thingz The biggest thing especially in ships that have longer reloads is looking around on the battlefield. You can see torps being launched, who just shot main guns, etc. For example in the early game, knowing which enemy DD has shot torps, you have an idea of when you need to start preemptively dodging a potential torp attack. Or if you are in a lightly armored cruiser, did that BB just shoot at someone else? Do you have time to make a turn showing broadside? Having an idea of reload time on enemy ships and taking a second to look around is a huge advantage in this game.
