This is what ChatGPT said about the transcript of this video: The video transcript you shared outlines a claim that energy supply companies in the UK are acting fraudulently by charging consumers based on credit agreements that, according to the video, do not exist. The video suggests that because consumers did not explicitly agree to a credit arrangement, they might not be legally obligated to pay the charges from these billing companies. However, opting out of paying for gas and electricity based on this claim is not straightforward or legally sound for the following reasons: 1. Contractual Agreement by Usage When you start using gas or electricity at a property, you are typically entering into a "deemed contract" with the supplier. This means that simply using the service implies your agreement to pay for it, even if you haven't signed a formal credit agreement. 2. Consumer Protection Regulations The Consumer Rights Act 2015 and related UK laws require that services provided (including utilities) are paid for. The absence of a signed credit agreement does not negate your responsibility to pay for consumed energy. 3. Fraud Act 2006 The video references the Fraud Act 2006, claiming false representation by the billing companies. However, this interpretation is highly contested and not recognized in legal precedents. The energy billing system in the UK is regulated by Ofgem, and suppliers are licensed to operate under strict regulations. 4. Challenging the Billing Companies If you were to challenge your energy supplier using the approach suggested (asking for a credit agreement), they might respond by clarifying that you are under a deemed contract. Failing to pay can lead to debt collection, negative credit reporting, and even disconnection of your service. 5. Legal Consequences Simply refusing to pay your bills without legal grounds could result in: Debt collection actions against you. Damage to your credit score. Court action leading to additional costs and potential enforcement. What Can You Do Instead? If you feel your bills are unfair or inaccurate, you can: Contact your supplier and request an explanation or adjustment. Switch suppliers if you believe you are being overcharged. Contact Ofgem (the energy regulator) for guidance or make a complaint through them. Seek legal advice if you genuinely believe there is fraudulent activity. Final Thought The claims made in the video appear to be based on a misinterpretation of how utility billing works in the UK. Opting out of paying your bills based on these claims could have severe financial and legal repercussions. It’s advisable to be cautious and seek professional legal advice if you’re considering such a course of action.

I did a quick dive into this for clarity and as you'd imagine there is layers to it, ultimately we as consumers pick up the tab.: Regarding funding through taxation: The Electricity Generator Levy (EGL) is a tax on electricity generators, which will be used to fund the CfD scheme. This levy will be in place until 2028. The EGL will be used to compensate generators if the market price falls short of the agreed strike price, with consumers ultimately funding these payments through their electricity bills. In summary: Multiple CfDs are in operation in the UK between energy generators and the UK government, with the aim of supporting low carbon generation and decarbonizing the energy sector. The Electricity Generator Levy (EGL) is a tax on electricity generators, which will be used to fund the CfD scheme and compensate generators if the market price falls short of the agreed strike price. This levy will be funded through taxation and ultimately borne by consumers through their electricity bills. Note that the exact amount of funding through taxation is not explicitly stated in the provided search results. However, it is clear that the EGL will be used to fund the CfD scheme and that consumers will ultimately bear the cost through their electricity bills.
I have a friend who told me about this. She has had her own gas and electricity meter independently installed. She owns them and therefore left her old supplier and said she was going elsewhere. She informed the national grid that they needed to charge her direct. As that’s not something they do, she’s not had a bill in over 2 years and still has a supply. If I was a bit braver, I’d do the same!!
This sounds very logical, did she have her meters installed after she left her supplier? And then go to the national grid asking them to bill her? I would seriously consider doing this myself! Thanks for the info
@@timpricedrums What a stupid thing to do. You have to get approval from your supplier to have the meters changed and provide meter readings to them from the new meters by law. You can also supply your own meters and have their meters removed. Must be done by a registered gas fitter/electrician and safety certs provided and there is a huge pushback from the supplier but its perfectly legal to have theirs taken out.
This is quite simple to explain. When privatisation happened British Gas didn't suddenly start generating electricity and what were the electricity boards didnt suddenly start gas distribution. There are national supply grids for both services, these were adopted by private companies with the advent of privatisation, those companies could then supply gas and electricity to consumers. As the private market developed, more companies emerged by negotiating contracts with the primary suppliers, to supply services at lower prices by virtue of of having lower overheads. The source of both gas and electricity remain the same, from their respective grids. When a consumer buys energy from a provider, that provider doesn't have their own production facility, it all comes from the grids, the primary energy providers have the production facilities. This is why when paying a so called green energy provider for electricity, that doesn't magically come from them on a separate supply, it still comes from the grid, but the provider has a supply contract with a wind or solar generation company. What is a scam is the standing charge. That was a feature of charging when the utilities were nationally owned and run, it was to cover infrastructure and maintenance because as nationalised services they did not make profit. So the private companies that now supply our energy should not be using standing charges, their running costs should come out of profit. They just adopted it as a nice little earner, or scam in other words. Our utilities should never have been privatised, that has lead to the situation we are now in. Just like when the post office was privatised in recent years, it was all for the city to make a quick buck. Anyway, energy does have to paid for, just as we have to pay for fuel for our vehicles. Try filling up and driving away without paying and see how that works out!! It's the prices we are being forced to pay that is the problem, and that is the governments fault.
I'm generally in agreement with you. Not sure about UK standing charges but in Japan, this charge originates from the power generator and it's passed on to the consumer by the energy retailer. Ie, it is a pass through cost at cost with no markup for the retailer.
My standing charges are more than the gas and electricity i use. They asked me once if I would recommend them. I said no! you are a bunch of greedy bastards.
@trevorscrivens3440 A standard charge covers you for things you don't understand or contemplate... Say a pipe busts outside your house, who pays for men and equipment to come fix it ? Say a major accident happens and the company needs millions in repairs.. you will cry if you don't get your service.. A business needs to make money to exist. If not, no work for people. No income etc etc... There is many parts to a business that people don't think about as they are blind. They only see money it costs.. If you had a business you would make as much money from people as you can... you would not be a good business person if you gave stuff away for free... If your boss cut your wages for Say having lunch breaks would you say that's ok.. nope. Or if they docked you wages for holidays... same thing. You get paid for not working. Your employer has to factor this in when doing business. So someone else has to cover for your wages for a year even when your not working...

This makes so much sense and explains why the bills stopped being quarterly and suddenly became monthly, either paid in full or on a monthly direct debit!
You could still get quarterly bills up until a couple of years ago with eon. Then they changed to eon next and monthly without any communication whatsoever.
I moved earlier this year, and when I re-signed up with British Gas over the phone, they asked me how would I like to pay. I said quarterly please, with a paper bill. No problem, they said. I always have had quarterly bills, I certainly am not going to change now, even though I've always actually paid a bit off each month anyway, just to help myself, not them. So if I can't afford it one month, no problem. I'll sort it over the next two months. Ring them and say you want quarterly paper bills, see what they say x
They pay either the regional suppliers or the grid. We used to pay them, back when you didn't need to remortgage your house to pay your winter fuel bills - and then Thatcher instigated the fraud that we have now. There is zero need for the parasite companies. They exist because their cronies in various govs and the WEF allowed them to. And because millions of people pay them. I've been paying just for the energy I use (about 40% of the 'bill' - and even that's too high) and told OVO to Foxtrot Oscar until they can produce the contract, or take me to court for energy theft (which, of course, they can't do). This is since 2021.
@@MrUniverse you can't you idiot. Do you go to your local supermarket and ask how you can purchase a tin of soup direct from the food manufacturer?!?! I strongly suggest you stay off the internet with your stupid comments.
That would be the ideal situation yes. GAS costs for a whole year are less than 20 quid, as it's only 0.05p a day for 4 Cubits of Gas, to produce average household use of 44Kwh. So we could simply pay the main supplier an UPFRONT COST perhaps for a years supply, rather than any daily figures logistics nightmare. Then yearly, they bill us for any additional use, or refund any under use, on the pre paid yearly average. An additional sum could be agreed to the Supplier, as infrastructure costs, wages and minor profit margin, of hopefully re-nationalised firms. The current situation is a fraudulent SCAM and we are being royally fleeced and extorted, and in some cases frozen to death over Heat or Eat choices, or having doors kicked in and smart meters/pre-pay installed via fraudulently acting goon squads, assisted unlawfully by goon squads of cops, that are unware they are not allowed to assist in such Civil Debt matters at all, ever!

You do you 🫣
Here in US/California, there is a similar system called Core Aggregation, for gas and electric. You can sign up with a 3rd party supplier who then uses the local utility's distribution network to deliver the gas/electricity. I had signed up with a 3rd party gas supplier back in the early 2000's. By 2016, I determined it was no longer economic to do that based on changes in the market/pricing and especially with the roll out of the "California Climate Credit", part of the state's "Cap and Trade" program. So I switched back to the utility supplied gas, in order to qualify for the climate credit payment scheme. Since doing that in the fall of 2018, I've not had to pay a penny to the utility for gas (including the minimum delivery or standing charge). The annual credit payments exceed my modest gas bill. I made a video, entitled " California Climate Credit - What's That", some years ago about this program, although I'm still unsure how it actually works and where the money comes from, etc. It's ironic that if I had chosen to go "green" with an electric heat pump water heater and also forego installing a gas grill and cooktop on the back patio, I would not qualify for any of these gas credits. So the natural gas climate credits have encouraged me to use more, not less gas! So big thumbs up to the climate scam for creating this, albeit small, loophole that gets me free natural gas!

It comes out the ground with so much quantity and force under its own pressure, they have to slow the stuff down! Once the gas and oil have been found and the initial gear to collect it is paid for it is basically free, only the drivers that deliver it require money. It should be really really cheap stuff!
50% of our gas is piped in from Norway. Some arrives in ships .Obviously the gas producers want paying and the transporters need to fund the pipelines and the ships crews want wages.

@@Rev_Arthur_Twunt There must be a bit of a conflict now, because some have swallowed the story that energy is already paid for by taxes, now they're being told on a thoroughly researched Facebook article that the "suppliers" are paying for it. On the other hand electricity is harvested from the air by the pylons. 🤔
@@lkearney7299 British Gas was privatised in 1986. It was not until 1998, under a Blair government, when the electricity market opened up to competition and British Gas could enter the electricity market. Many other companies entered the market at the same time. There was no requirement for the suppliers to pay for the building of infrastructure, they pay towards the cost of the upkeep.
@@lkearney7299 An energy supplier is a company that consumers pay their electricity bill to, and that sets the tariff for the electricity used. This is defined in legislation and is overseen by the regulator OFGEM. It's true they don't literally supply energy to the home, with electricity that's the DNO, but the supplier will pay the DNO, transmitters, producers and all other costs involved in getting that energy into the home. If we just paid the DNO, I'm sure there would be a similar argument, ah but they don't generate the electricity they just supply the copper wire into the home.
A question I have asked since the privatisation of energy. In other words the original supplier still supplies it. It's not a commodity where they buy something then sell it. There is another fiddle or control going on because obviously the companies generating electricity and or producing, supplying the gas should be able to supply it cheaper themselves. It's not like an object that can be bought then resold. They are middle men. We are being totally ripped off by these people. The most expensive gas and electricity almost... In the world.

All sounds lovely, when dressed up in legalese, like this. But the bottom line is, when you sign up with a supplier, you enter into a contract with them, which agrees to a set price for the product and a payment schedule. It does not specify where the vendor is supposed to source the product, nor are there any stipulations in law. So the supplier buys the product at wholesale prices, paying for it at source, then supplies it to the end user at the agreed price, under the agreed payment terms, as signed for at the commencement of the contract. In the case of electricity and often gas and water, the delivery means is leased from the wholesaler, much like a corner store might leases a van to deliver bread and milk. Notice that the analogy holds true for these products too. The corner store buys these products from a wholesaler, paying for them at source, then supplies them to consumers at an agreed price. If the consumer refuses to pay, after having the bread and milk delivered every day, what happens? The delivery stops happening, first. Then the process of extracting payment for the products that were delivered begins, often ending up in court, where judgement will take account of the expense incurred in getting the case to court and any hardship the supplier may have endured due to non payment. The licensed energy companies are no different. They buy gas/electricty, for a bulk purchase price, paid for at source, then sell it to consumers at a price agreed to by the consumers beforehand. It’s a simple business transaction and end users cannot duck out of their liability simply because whoever they bought their energy from is a responsible business and has paid for the product it sells. That’s not how it works.
My fella hasn't paid our gas or electric bill for the past year. We are moving out to start off grid living next week, does this really work as dont wanna pay the final bill?

This is what ChatGPT said about the transcript of this video:
The video transcript you shared outlines a claim that energy supply companies in the UK are acting fraudulently by charging consumers based on credit agreements that, according to the video, do not exist. The video suggests that because consumers did not explicitly agree to a credit arrangement, they might not be legally obligated to pay the charges from these billing companies.
However, opting out of paying for gas and electricity based on this claim is not straightforward or legally sound for the following reasons:
1. Contractual Agreement by Usage
When you start using gas or electricity at a property, you are typically entering into a "deemed contract" with the supplier. This means that simply using the service implies your agreement to pay for it, even if you haven't signed a formal credit agreement.
2. Consumer Protection Regulations
The Consumer Rights Act 2015 and related UK laws require that services provided (including utilities) are paid for. The absence of a signed credit agreement does not negate your responsibility to pay for consumed energy.
3. Fraud Act 2006
The video references the Fraud Act 2006, claiming false representation by the billing companies. However, this interpretation is highly contested and not recognized in legal precedents. The energy billing system in the UK is regulated by Ofgem, and suppliers are licensed to operate under strict regulations.
4. Challenging the Billing Companies
If you were to challenge your energy supplier using the approach suggested (asking for a credit agreement), they might respond by clarifying that you are under a deemed contract. Failing to pay can lead to debt collection, negative credit reporting, and even disconnection of your service.
5. Legal Consequences
Simply refusing to pay your bills without legal grounds could result in:
Debt collection actions against you.
Damage to your credit score.
Court action leading to additional costs and potential enforcement.
What Can You Do Instead?
If you feel your bills are unfair or inaccurate, you can:
Contact your supplier and request an explanation or adjustment.
Switch suppliers if you believe you are being overcharged.
Contact Ofgem (the energy regulator) for guidance or make a complaint through them.
Seek legal advice if you genuinely believe there is fraudulent activity.
Final Thought
The claims made in the video appear to be based on a misinterpretation of how utility billing works in the UK. Opting out of paying your bills based on these claims could have severe financial and legal repercussions. It’s advisable to be cautious and seek professional legal advice if you’re considering such a course of action.

The producers are already paid through Government contract by taxes collected.
I did a quick dive into this for clarity and as you'd imagine there is layers to it, ultimately we as consumers pick up the tab.:
Regarding funding through taxation:
The Electricity Generator Levy (EGL) is a tax on electricity generators, which will be used to fund the CfD scheme. This levy will be in place until 2028.
The EGL will be used to compensate generators if the market price falls short of the agreed strike price, with consumers ultimately funding these payments through their electricity bills.
In summary:
Multiple CfDs are in operation in the UK between energy generators and the UK government, with the aim of supporting low carbon generation and decarbonizing the energy sector.

Common sense buddy... but people lack that... they also have no clue how a business works or starts.
@trevorscrivens3440
A standard charge covers you for things you don't understand or contemplate...

You should be thankful that they didn’t just float your service on the open market so the networks bill you directly. The bill would be at least twice as much if that was the case. But oh well.
I'm in CA. I'd like to learn more about that.

British Gas was privatised in 1986. It was not until 1998, under a Blair government, when the electricity market opened up to competition and British Gas could enter the electricity market. Many other companies entered the market at the same time. There was no requirement for the suppliers to pay for the building of infrastructure, they pay towards the cost of the upkeep.
@@lkearney7299
An energy supplier is a company that consumers pay their electricity bill to, and that sets the tariff for the electricity used.

BS! They claim they are supplier's. Committing FRAUD!

Hello ,so please can you tell us did they not cut you off or send bailiffs round ? I think as I'm a tenant I would get evicted - the electric bill is in my landlords name at my address they refuse to change it to my name or I wouldn't hesitate to stop paying as they don't even read meter .just simply put it up from approx £50 qtr to £ 245 qtr .I have no heating no oven cannot heat water for a bath just electric shower kettle lights meter faulty and still moving when everything switched off too!
Thank you. Love Richard Vobes👏👏👏
Richard
Spot on. I have been challenging EDF for two years to provide the contract and the credit agreement. They tried everything to explain that they got the right to supply by default when I bought the property. That didn’t sit well with me and continued to push back. I haven’t paid for two years. They keep sending estimated accounts which I have returned unopened.
The trick is to avoid being duped into giving your consent by eg letting them come into the property and read the meter or accepting a discounted supply deal …….
The contract is implied, I'm afraid and they are correct.
@@StudentDad-mc3pu THEY TREID THAT AS WELL EARLY OM BUT ITS NOT A VALID ARGUMENT

👍a right for them to supply doesn't mean you have to pay
You dont pay, eventually they cut you off....😤😤
Say you're a refugee and seeking asylum.
I’ve stopped paying everything since 2001. I’ve requested the contract between myself and the energy companies which doesn’t exist.

They not put meter in mine threatening and I did id prosecute if they touch my meter 😂

"Their own charges" should be paid by the principal company/supplier, as payment for handling the administration on their (principal/supplier) behalf !!

The stock market is a way to hedge against inflation. Most notably amidst recession, investors need to understand where and how to allocate funds to hedge against inflation and still make profits.
Best thing is to carry out extensive research and be on top of current events. Know how current events can alter share prices and apply logic over your emotions. This is what worked for me. Best of luck
In order to make profits from trading you need loads of experience and a well defined strategy, which most traders don't have. If you trade without the proper preparation, you're most likely to lose your money. Identify the buy/sell ratios and identify the market leaders and most importantly. Diversify! this will help you spread risk.
"It's usually best to ignore the trend whether bullish or bearish and stick to a proper trading plan maybe from the help of a professional. I recently just started investing again so I am still in touch with the consultant that provides entry and exit points on the securities I focus on. She does all the technical analysis legwork while I go about my other businesses. You can use something else if you are the DIY type of guy, investing has no one way to do it".
How can one find a verifiable financial planner? I would not mind looking up the professional that helped you. I will be retiring in two years and I might need some management on my much larger portfolio. Don't want to take any chances.
Just say no - right up to the point where your electricity and gas is cut off...
You have never TRIED not paying.. so therefore you HAVE NO IDEA whether they cut you off or not
Cutting off supply is the last resort. They will try everything else to get money out of us one way or another before that.
The only way to do this is to either go off grid permanently or choose van life. Neither are an option for most of us. Bailiffs and court will be inevitable. The system is deeply corrupt and has been milking us all for far too long to stop now. We are owned. We have been down this road so many times.
Same applies to council tax too.
Sadly I agree Only. Small percentage can live without utilities
Lose the fear my friend. When the contract ends, then just do not renew. Then there is no contract. They'll try bullying you for a couple of years but stand your ground, they'll give up.
@@cyberbid Many have been quietly exposing the system for years... mortgage fraud, credit cards, power companies etc and have taken personal hits on behalf of humanity. Now all their scams are fully exposed but still humanity won't stand up. Because of the critical time point we are at this has caused a major split in timelines. There are now 2 realities. This is being played out as chaos....everywhere!!! It's entirely up to the individual which reality they move into. The lower reality does not perceive the higher but fights to keep the lower as it is through fear. But the higher perceives the lower and can only encourage and say there are many of us moving to the higher. It's much easier now as the fraud by banking, governments, energy companies, pharma, is in plain sight
Providing your own services will be very very expensive and time consuming to set up and crapping in a bucket and stressing about where to park every night hardly seems like freedom to me.
its disgusting enough what they are doing and on top of it they up and up the costs for g and e that so many of us have to be careful using it . i wonder if their employees are aware of it .
We need to be able to challenge this without them breaking in or cutting us off. It’s clearly fraudulent.
I had this conversation with the electricity board (shows how long ago it was), and they agreed there was no liability to pay. But they would cut me off if I did not. Pretty compelling argument.
How can those with key metering fight this fraud? Many are pensioners and cannot survive if those criminals cut off supplies.
Pay to have own meters installed & be prepared for a fight by using their own legislation against these greedy corporatists.
Yes but then the charge for fitting your own meter would be as much uf not more than paying the exaggerated bill
Will people be cut off if they refuse payment? That will be their worry I'm sure! Thank you Richard for all you do.
the trick is you don't refuse to pay, you just ask for the contract first. They can't supply it so there is no contract = no debt.
