    This was awesome, as a newbie to smallholding this is exactly the type of tutorial I need to teach me. Even the brooder you created looks great! 10/10 Thank you 🙏🏻

    That was quite clever to use wooden door that way.

    Nice design. My niece wants me to build one for her. She had 18 chicks hatch out of 40. Not a very good hatch rate but we expected that. They're 3 week old now.
    Cheers from Leeds

    Searched for quail tractors and yours was the first video to come up! I don't have the carpentry skills for this yet (seriously, how do you make a wooden framed triangle? 😂) but I'm definitely inspired to give it a go. Maybe I'll buy an off-the-shelf triangle shaped run and augment it as a quail tractor? Baby steps! 😁💚

    Question in 2 parts! Are you going to keep them in the tractor till they are laying eggs? if so how do you get an egg out of the larger run area?

      We did keep them in there yes and since he made it he’s put a door in. Thankfully they lay in the housing part!

    Curious how this has worked out since you built it? We are hatching quail now and thinking how we want to house them out in the garden. This looks great, have you made any changes to the design after using it a while? My initial thought was the wire mesh was too big, we’ve had small birds when spooked by rats poke their heads out of smaller wire than this, and the head gets bitten off😢 I think this hasn’t happened since you put the wood round the sides, but you mentioned they were a problem pest for you.

      Sorry to the delay in getting back to you. We made it easier to get the eggs by adding a door to mesh. Rats are just awful for doing that. This mesh was great actually, you could even see where the rats had tunnelled to try and get it. We did try to move them to a bigger, also meshed greenhouse but the rats did get in there. It wasn’t secure as this so sadly we did lose them. Catch 22 as they need small cage if secure but bugger are hard to secure. Easy pray for the rats sadly. Best of luck x

    Why do you put wire at bottom of your tractor?

    • @OurSmallholdingAdventure
      @OurSmallholdingAdventure  2 года назад +2

      To stop rats digging underneath which we’ve had many times

      Do their little feet get caught? I’m worried about that happening!
