Remember when they got chased off the stage in Lincoln, must have been about 1979. They had a couple of "security" skinhead bully boys on each side of the stage punching a few people at random. The audience didn't take too kindly to that and after a couple of songs, invaded the stage, the band (and the bully boys - who got completely mashed up by the mob) ran into the dressing room and the crowd proceeded to smash up all their instruments. Would have been a great concert if they had left the bully boys at home. The funny thing was that when the stage was totally destroyed and the concert was abandoned, the club DJ took to the decks and played "Smash it up" by the Damned, the whole place took to the dancefloor like wildfire. Although that´s what I remember most, Angelic Upstarts were a great band.
I remember my uncle getting me this LP a long time ago and saying don't play it near your parents, it's got a bit of swearing in it. Great album, might have to get another copy ;-)
Me too ,14 at Digbeth Civic Hall ,they played loads in Brum...A couple of doors down from Steelhouse Lane nick...It was always a bit lively once we got to THOSE songs!! Hhhh, great teenage days!
@@kookadams85 yes mate....far better than the upstarts ( who played on the skinheads with the fake patriotism ) and sham ( who didn't have a clue what was going on lol). All screwed up ....practically unbeatable...both as a punk lp or a skinhead lp.
I had forgotten just how much this album was a part of my youth. First Upstarts album I stole (My local Woolworths if I remember correctly). Still a great album, up there with the best
First band I ever saw circa 1980. Quite proud that they were so scared of us teenagers that the security for the gig was provided by the Wolverhampton Hells Angels and the infamous Jimmy the Con.
Thomas Gunn - hi ya TG. Sorry, didn't mean that the Upstarts were scared of us. I meant the local authorities were so scared of a bunch of teenager going to see a band, they called Jimmy the Con and the Angels in. Some Gigs in late 70s early 80s were like football matches - very very violent. Upstarts concerts could be a tad tasty, hence the Angels. There was, however, no trouble at the gig (Walsall town hall). To be really honest though, The Upstarts alone would have shit breeze blocks in regards to Jimmy the Con. You can read about him in the JBs (Dudley) book.
@@sgbh8874 Fair enough mate. Thanks for clearing that up. You are right in your description of these late 70s early 80s gigs. They could get quite brutal.

Great album, really in need of a remaster, so at least all the songs seem like they were recorded in the same studio :)

Never had any of their stuff except punk comps. Woman in disguise, police oppression and last night another soldier were about the only songs I heard.
Capital City sounds like The Clash Clash City Rockers!

PIL fucking sucks. And what, are you going to bitch about Dylan and Springsteen still playing the same styles? Probably not.
