i’m a very anxious person and struggle to carry conversations with people i’ve just met and i honestly can’t stress how much i appreciate tattoo artists who carry the conversation and prompt new topics etc because it takes away so much anxiety and i can’t imagine how draining that must be to talk to people all day.
Be a server for the summer and it will give you the confidence to do it I promise 😂

Haha. I'm the same except I want to be the tattoo artist. XD I'm autistic and have bad social anxiety.
As someone who used to be in your shoes, the only thing that made me better was taking jobs that force me to sell things to people. It's a great way to gain mental flexibility and social skills.
I feel incredibly lucky to have the mentor that I have. I was accepted in a very "new school" tattoo shop, per-say. My mentor has very progressive views, he told me I had to put in the work, but that he wouldn't make me wait years before tattooing on people. Obviously he's still going to make me practice.
He hates that other shops gatekeep by making their apprentices clean up after them, he's not gonna make me set up other people's stations, instead he's going to make me practice setting mine up until i can do it impeccably. He let me borrow one of his wireless rotary machines to practice.
Everybody at my shop is so laid back and chill, they like to mess with me like I've known them for months.
All of this just to say that not all shops are the same, I might've found a gem but all apprenticeship experiences will be different. I thought I would have to clean up, set up stations, and be a receptionist/errand runner for 2-3 years before tattooing. Turns out I don't have to do all that.
I got my apprenticeship more then a month ago. I’ve been feeling extremely discouraged and stressed with the whole thing. I don’t have a good paying job. I don’t even work full time on the apprenticeship or my retail job and I’m still so stressed. Your video helped me a bit with the stress and made me not want to give up. So thank you for that.. it means so much

this helps a lot. i feel nervous to step into tattooing because (at least in my area), majority of the artists are male and I feel a bit intimidated. But I just need to step up and speak to those artists and ask if there is anyone willing to help me get into an apprenticeship!
I know a few studios here in Western Australia where all artists are all female. It's getting popular for girls getting into industry now.
Each apprenticeship is different. I got to start tattooing within two months. But I only get to tattoo two out of the five days I work. Most artists at my shop do everything themselves, but I do anything they ask me to do. Some ask more of me than others, some ask absolutely nothing from me. I answer emails, phones, and handle more front end details. We are a street shop so we tend to do anything people ask. Some of us are like that, and some create artwork for everything they do and are requesting specifically to do so. For me I can gravitate to whichever style I want. Take walk ins and emails, or work to get a clientele who wants specifically my artwork. The details in each shop vary greatly.

I have been a tree worker most my life but had a wicked knee injury have been out of work for 4 months started to lose my marbles . I started to draw and have now started tattoo work on me self and sold my first drawing yesterday. Art saved my life and this is what i want to do for the rest of it. Nice video 🤙🏼

i’m from brighton and did those same subjects at college, i’ve got a degree in graphic design now and friends who are tattoo artists and it’s always played on my mind to do an apprenticeship but i just couldn’t afford not to have a full time job! i’ve tattooed before and i enjoy it so much! wishing you lots of success! 🥰

Crazy to hear what an apprenticeship is like in England! I just wrote my final exams and passed my apprenticeship and now I‘m working as an employee full time! I am from Germany but I‘m so, so close to book a flight and get tattooed by you (when all of this is over ofc) 🥺❤️

As someone who has done an apprenticeship before (not tattoo) I really recommend it! Just make sure you do your research and ask a lot of questions before you sign anything :)
As a fellow tattooist, I relate to this video so much haha. Tattooing is so so difficult but so fun and rewarding. Although it’s a slow and on-going process, becoming a tattooist has forced myself to be more confident. Would love to see a work vlog if filming is possible and you/your colleagues/customers feel comfortable :)

Not sure which aspect you’re asking about, but it will benefit you a lot to draw as much as you can with intention. Explore a certain theme and see how many different compositions/designs you can come up with (cause customers oftentimes want really similar themes/elements). Don’t be afraid to ask people to judge your designs. Study your favorite artists’ work and learn from them. Don’t know if you’re still on this journey but good luck anyways! It’s a really competitive job and you’ll have to work really hard to stand out, but it’s an amazing job to have if you’re passionate about it.
@@cha-chakyamba9361 if you’re asking me how I get into the field-I accumulated some of my favorite designs, prepared my portfolio and just walk into shops I wanted to learn in. Politely ask if they were looking for apprentice and got rejected several times, but still got some advice from the shop owner owners. I think it took me several months until I finally find a place with artists I admire that also wanted to teach me.

It's great to have made your passion your profession in an exclusively male environment. I got my first tattoo not long ago, it was done by a woman and I'm delighted with it. She knew straight away what I wanted. Thank you for this video🤩🤩🤩

@@traceytran2188 hiya, there might be but I’d say the best way to apply for a tattoo apprenticeship would be through email. Research and look up any nearby tattoo studios and email over work and ask if there looking for an apprentice to work

I relate a lot to your past, but I’m my present life, I don’t work atm but I do makeup in my spare time and at college I gave up my dream of being a tattoo artists but I’ve always wanted it and I’m starting to move towards getting a tattoo apprenticeship and I’m wondering about how I can work in the side and also keep this up, as well as doubting my art abilities

I was a tattoo apprentice but the shop I worked turned out to be a sketchy shop. It was nice looking and the artists were not bad at tattooing. But as soon as I started I knew somethings were not right. The owner selled drugs in the shop and when he did that he always told me to do something else so he could sell it. Also the designs were always an internet copy they never designed something special or unique. And last but not least the owner started yelling at me because he wanted me to go away because he did not feel like learning me to tattoo so he would make me crawl on my knees to clean the floor. For the whole day! I worked there for a year because I wanted to tattoo so badly. Now I'm back at going to school best choice I made

I hated my experience being a apprentice I was used for 6 months the first time to be fired completely waste of time and money my second apprentice was better but the tattoo artist weren’t any good and I couldn’t grow or learn anything right now I’m just learning by myself now bought a Cheyenne hawk machine and yea I’m a electrician apprentice now lol
