Was thinking of getting this at one time due to the steep hills I have to mow, but I didn't care to spend all that money on a machine that did "one thing" good.
My golf course only has the Tough Cut and Contour Mower with the basic tractor and I have to say, some of the things I've done while operating it for the last 3 years is pretty awesome. Though the Contour Mower is a bit awkward to fix, the tractor has one grease fitting that's a pain to get to, and the Tough Cut seems to be rather fickle. As in, if I don't drive at a really slow speed it doesn't cut everything and I can't go by the edge of the deck like I can with the contour mower. I have to go by one of the screws further inward or else I miss spots. And turning is a bit fickle too but other than that it's still awesome and is pretty damn powerful. I've dragged co-workers much bigger and heavier mowers out of the mud no problem and only slid once but that was because I mowed a rather wet patch I didn't know was there and ripped a hunk off that managed to wedge itself between my front left tires and lock them up. Luckily it only took me a second to re-gain control before I slid too far but still if that's the worst that happened after running what is now a 5 year old machine at my golf course I'd say it's pretty sturdy and rugged.
What do you mean by the bush? I run one on my golf course and while I don't pretend to know all it's ins and outs I can say it can go pretty much anywhere. Of course a lot of that has to do with the operators experience and judgement but with dual tires it's pretty hard to get stuck.
A Ventrac 4500 has 5" of ground clearance, which doesn't sound like much, but since it is about the same size as a quad (four-wheeler) and has the flex frame, there is no problem conquering tough terrain. I don't know for sure, but I am guessing the bottom of a Ventrac is as tough as the rest of the machine and probably has enough steel that you wouldn't need to put additional skid plates on it.
The next question is what new attachments does Ventrac need? Brush chipper? Short, wide hole digger for shrubs/tree planting? Footer digger? Wider, shorter cut. Why don't front blades have optional gauge wheels? Rear blades do. WARN winch mount? Why does the canopy negate having the safety/warning light?

Excellent. I want to know if it has an accessory that I don't see in the video. I don't know the name in English (Argentinian here) It is similar to a giant corkscrew that makes cylindrical holes to put posts. Greetings from Patagonia Argentina.
Great machine. Is it possible to. Add steel studs in the tires , to Polk holes in the ground and hold the machine from sliding on very steep slopes. Icy parking lots and sidewalks to clear. In the blizzard of 1978, people had tire shops shoot a metal stud in to the tire to get traction. And move around. Later.
Does Ventrac ever see itself making a value line of tractors for home owners with 1-10 acres full of hills to compete in the upmarket lawn tractor market? Current offerings aren't cost effective unless used professionally and tractors from other brands invariably roll over.
They do have a smaller tractor line. It does not have as many attachments but it is still versatile. It also does not allow for the dual wheels so it wont do as severe a slope.
I bought mine simply because I like the out-front attachments and my 1800' driveway. However, the guy I use for delivering my driveway gravel was so impressed with the Ventrac and could see what I could accomplish with just the Power Bucket and Terra Rake, he's been giving out my contact info and getting me about 3-4 jobs per month. I charge $400 for about 3-hours of work (for a 400' driveway). The people are glad to pay it as (1) they usually can't find anybody with the proper equipment to do the job and (2) even if they do, the guys with the larger machines want $1K to do the job. I think I've found a niche market in doing small yard and driveway jobs because of the turf-friendly machine and the lack of people willing to do the required manual labor of moving and leveling stone, mulch and topsoil. I live in a rural area with lots of dirt roads and gravel driveways.

Is there any truth to the recent rumor that i heard about ventracs: if you have dual tires and you pump them up really well, the ventrac will float across water with no attachments. That would make for a good video with plenty of disclaimers. I did mow through a swamp and it felt like at times i was floating on water. Maybe it is true?
@albrownmd I don't have exact measurements for the inside of the tire, but using the stated tire size I did a little math. The 8 tires on a Ventrac would displace approximately 1,100 pounds of water, meaning that the Ventrac would not float in plain water. Changing the tire pressure would make very little difference in whether something would float or not. For something to float is a matter of displacement weight compared to actual weight. If an item weighs less than the weight of the water it displaces, it will float. That is why a boat floats, even though it is made of materials that would sink- the shape of the hull displaces more water than the boat weighs
@@westonauker8749 Hmmm, we used to pump up our ATV tires to 70-pounds and walk alongside them when transporting across water more than 2' deep and less than 4' deep. I think the Ventrac with 8-tires would make it too as long as you're not sitting on it. But it's WAYYY too expensive to monkey around with like that.
@@robertdavis5133 Next time you have an opportunity to take an ATV across water, you could try it without pumping up the tires. The internal pressure of an object does not change its displacement, unless it makes it expand. The only additional buoyancy gained by pumping up tires is if the additional pressure physically stretches the rubber making the tire bulge more than normal, thus displacing more water. The flip side would be if the tire is at such low pressure that the water pressure would make it collapse or shrink. However, at 3' deep, water pressure would be less than 2 psi higher than the atmospheric pressure at the surface so I don't think that would make much difference.
It is such a shame that Ventrac is not sold in the Netherlands. No import no dealer. And there is so much to mow here in this country.
