Yes, Shivertusk is a great choice. Make sure you have enough attacks and the battles are going how you'd like. Remember, you can repeat dragon battles if you lose, so have fun trying different combos!
Do you think the dragon isles will make the Lucky Loot more likely to give you good items like Helmets, boots etc
I don’t think they will because those gear are very powerful and has an extremely good bonus so they will probably keep just like how it is.
