    Rick - congrats on your plans for retirement. You, your skill, and your trade are a diamond in the rough. I look forward to watching the remainder of your videos until the final test light at the end. Thanks for taking the time to teach and show us everything about carriage lamps.

    As an older man
    I am so glad you are getting to retire
    But I am going to miss your show
    There is one thing I would love to see before you go
    If you would consider
    A detailed description video on how the candle system works
    I would love to build some lamps for my house
    (Off grid homestead)
    And I think k those would be very classy
    For my porch and yard lights
    And possibly pathway

    We will miss your regular videos, but after retiring last year after 50 years, I can see why you wish to do the same. Thank you for the very informative and instructional videos, and I do hope that you have inspired a bunch of younger folk to take up the mantle and build and repair lamps for decades to come.

    So I retired 3 years ago at the age of 58 everybody says to me why so young. I always come back with young how many years you think I have left? And they give me a puzzled look and I say to them about their look yeah you can't figure it out either how much time do we have left? How much time do we have left...I don't know but I want to enjoy it a little bit so remember every night is Friday night and every day is Saturday and one other thing to remember you're not on vacation. Vacations cost too much Good luck! I hope this comment finds you well whit a great look on life.

    I have looked through most of your great videos, but I wish I could have found one about what soldering material, flux agents, gas etc that goes with what. My problem is soldering all the different metals together and obviously without damaging the glass from heat or the silver plating on the inside copper? You make it look so easy, but without the right materials, it's not, even though I consider myself handy. When I go and buy soldering material, there's 20-30 different from just one brand all with different percentage of this and that and no one seems to be able to tell me what to use where??? All answers are appreciated.

      These blokes make it look so bloody easy. Piece a cake, I says. Be buggered if I can get it as good as them. Books, old books, are where I find stuff.

    Just watching you work shows so many different techniques I' bet you don't know you are showing. Keep up these videos. And have a happy retirement! You deserve it. And don't be reluctant to get those "senior" discounts. We all deserve them . My only grief with them is they assume we all want really bland stuff. I"m sorry, but I want some spice in my retirement!

    Hi Iv just come across your vidio channels what great and very interresting work you do with those lamps. just a query on your soldering flux do you have a brand for it or do you make it up your self as the flux I used to buy has gone off the market witch was very good. The flux I use now is not all that good. Just wandering if you had a recipe on how to make it.Cheers from New Zealand.

    My question is, what do you use for flux and solder. I clean thoroughly but still have issues with flow.
    Any suggestions?

    I have really enjoyed all the videos you have produced, Rick. Now that you're retiring (congratulations!), if you feel like sharing, I would love to know about some of the tools and consumables you use. MAPP, acetylene, LPG? What tip size do you use and what pressures? What type of flux (not brand, I'm not in the USA), what type of solder? Thank you, in keen anticipation.

    Are there any young people getting involved in the craft Rick that you are aware of? My Father (RIP) was apprenticed as a Tinsmith in New Zealand in the 1950's and they used to undertake all sorts of manufacturing and repairs to anything, well metal. His final test of his 5 year apprenticeship was to build from scratch a 2 gallon watering can only from the material provided, they had to make their own pattern and calculate the volume of water in the can, all done within 8 hours. The material provided was just enough, any mistake would see a failure awarded. I do admire all your videos very much. Watching from Taiwan.

      Thanks Bruno, Getting the most out of your material is important. There aren't many apprentice programs like that left.

    Congratulations on your retirement, I’m sure it is bittersweet. When the shop is all closed up and your ready to turn off the lights, I’d really be interested in purchasing some of your equipment. You surely will be missed, but thankfully you were nice enough to put it on video for the future generations. God bless you.

      @robertbamford8266 2 года назад

      Same here. I was trying (unsuccessfully) to imagine the type of impact that might have crushed the heads and broken the one glass lens without doing more damage - if they were mounted at the time they were damaged.

    • @TheLuminaryShoppe
      @TheLuminaryShoppe  2 года назад +1

      dOOdEEE & Robert, Yup, that made me curious too. I think they were bought at an auction so no history. I suspect they were not on a carriage when damaged. Maybe something was dropped on them. They were obviously sitting in a barn or something for a few years judging by the accumulated tarnish and dirt.
